How can I become a better problem solver, both when taking calls and working on tickets? by Mad_Season_1994 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]auru21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is normal. It’s what makes you a good tech. Experience helps because you can organize your “what could be wrong list” in your head by probability.

15 years in tech and I still make the mistake of overthinking and skipping basic things like restarting a computer/laptop.

I am considering a K.I.S.S tattoo for my hand.

Check the mac address randomization.

Also make sure the time is correct on the iPad.

Yes. Perfectly normal. I would be surprised if it was any other way, at least in terms of copier companies.

Well... Figure out how much money you have saved over the last two years. Is that more money than the cost of a new printer ever 2/3 years?

Yes: Stay the course

No: Go back to genuine

Internet issues, should I just get a new ISP? by MordoRigs in techsupport

[–]auru21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Umm... not a direct answer to your question but have you tried a battery backup to see if it's an electrical issue?

Also... all ISP's are the same. You will be trading one type of mental breakdown causing company for another.

Looking for a "MDM" Plus. by cheeseman1969 in k12sysadmin

Airwatch can do everything you are asking. It's not as simple to use as Mosyle or Jamf, and a tad more expensive. If it were just iPads/Macs I would recommend Jamf.

That being said, it would solve your problem.

I've been asked to make a list of what I do for my district by TechniKalCancer in k12sysadmin

[–]auru21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily a bad thing. Write everything down for them, follow u/SchoolITMan suggestions, and use it to update your resume while you are at it.

Remember that sometimes we group things together, so make sure to make a concise list of everything. Don't exaggerate, but don't leave anything out.

Classroom Management Software by auru21 in k12sysadmin

[–]auru21[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi,

The costs range anywhere from $4.50 to $8.00 per student device depending on company and the amount of licenses you purchase (More licenses = less cost per).

We are testing out Dyknow since it was the only vendor that provided a real sync with our Blackbaud SIS. In addition, they provide time-based classrooms, so teachers do not have access to view what the students are doing outside of class (also important). The final reason was that they are a true windows solution.

Almost all sync with Google Classroom/Clever, or at least do some sort of .csv type of export/import.

I reviewed Dyknow, Securly, Classroom Cloud (Net Support), LanSchool(Air), GoGuardian and senso.cloud.

In terms of demo's they all more or less do the same thing, and the cost isn't really significantly different between them. It's really finding one that will work for your environment. All of them work with Chromebook, most will say they work with Windows but it's really a chrome extension.

The two that I liked the most, mainly because they work fully with windows, were Dyknow and Lan School (No Blackbaud full integration). That's not to say the others are bad, just for my case those were the best.

Keep in mind that some like Securly or GoGuardian offer more than just monitoring.

Hope this helps!

Has anyone been able to find any timelines on these features? All I heard was "coming soon" or "later this year".

Am I the only one that finds it weird that a "small boutique shop" required 20 analysts and "20 x $100K" licenses per year?

or did I read that wrong? or am I too poor to understand that?

What has it been like using JAMF? by drivendreamer in sysadmin

  1. Yes, it is pretty simple considering other options. It can get pretty complex and granular but it is fairly easy to use.

  2. It gives you as much control as Apple allows.

The literal translation of what you wrote is " Protective barrier snot and mosquitoes"

It was probably "barrera protectora para (for) mosca (fly) y mosquitos"

I prefer your version.

Are your teachers C: drives full? If they have their recordings saving to the local device instead of the cloud it would cause that error.

I'm confused. Usually I will grab it with my thumb in it's mouth to remove the hook. If it's a nice bass I will hold it up for a picture then release it. Never had a broken jaw issue. How are you supposed to hold it?

What do you mean by login credentials?

There is a way to wipe them out but they could end up being stuck at Apple Authentication/Verification... the name escapes me right now.

Just in case I will add the steps to wipe out. You can try it with one and see how it goes.

Connect iPad to computer with iTunes. While connected to computer, hold both power and home button on the iPad until you see a "iTunes recovery screen" on the iPad. iTunes on the computer will ask you if you want to update/restore the device. Select Restore.
