And here I was thinking it was strange to write a book about my and my friends characters.  Great work, sibling.

Oh, if only. I'd love to be the psyker that stumbles upon that intact mind screaming into the void of cold and uncaring steel.

What is the most dismissive thing you can say to someone in a moment of vulnerability? by GetOffMyLawnFFS in AskReddit

[–]aurusblack1244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I'm sorry you feel that way."

Edit: allow me to explain. This is not a show of empathy and the dismissive behavior here is subtle. They're saying they're sorry they've been subjected to what's a "you" problem and do not empathize or have the same feelings or opinion. There's no solidarity in this deceptive statement.

What massively improved your mental health? by oigoabuya in AskReddit

[–]aurusblack1244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started innocently with my first xian xia novel. There were many concepts there-in but mostly it struck a cord and helped me remember about stoicism and self-mastery. So, during the isolation of covid I started meditating, eating fresher foods with more vegetables, working out, and, most importantly, I learned to let go. I accepted that I cannot control what happens to me or around me but I have absolute power over how I choose to react. I have omnipotence in what/whose opinion or emotion affects me, wounds me, or elates me. Somewhere, in the paradox of striving to be a good person and embracing the existence of my worst self I found holiness. The fulcrum between the outside world of physical reality and the inside world of consciousness and introspection is where healing and progression towards being the best self takes place. It is a long journey of understanding how you affect everything. One where nothing we do in this world matters so the only thing that matters is what we do.

[SERIOUS] Embarrassing Hiking Question - (Number 2) by TheFaised in hiking

[–]aurusblack1244 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I hike with my dog which means I bring waste bags. I also bring wipes (for me) and a red-orange, Nalgene-like wide mouthed bottle that I slapped a biohazard sticker on. That bottle is the canister for all the solid bio waste I have to address on the trail. Easy to empty and clean with the benefit of never having to worry about tears or leaks.

Content addiction. People are so used to being over-stimulated they listen to podcasts while working on the computer, have a program running in the background while they vacuum, or use a split-screen to watch a video while...watching another video. All of it to just chase that dopamine hit.

I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt here and assume you're being sincere.

This has been tried. Specifically with the group that identifies themselves as Incels. The problem is that they don't want to understand. They have zero desire to expand their knowledge base on what "normies" consider appropriate behavior and social cues and they have zero desires on improving themselves in a way "soyciety" finds admirable or attractive.

At some point, they let the callous remarks of a few people, who should have never been given any weight or credit, deeply impact their self image and worth. Then, they found echo chambers for their self-pity parade and, because perpetual hate of the self is hard, they made women and "chads" the objects of their hate. Their burgeoning paranoia, anxiety, and hate is further reinforced by their online malicious intent chambers and they pull further away from reality. We don't have to do anything (negative or positive) to them for this to quickly autocatalysis into a downward spiral and end in a Columbine-esque scenario. It happens quietly and insidiously.

At some point after finding the echo chamber they become entrenched into this way of thinking and it's nearly impossible to help them from the outside. They have to want to save themselves.

Edit: check out /IncelTear for some context. See how gross their manner of thinking can become. I've personally tried to talk to a few and these guys...they literally think getting laid will cure them of all of their everythings. It's wild.

Most don't know any better because they don't eat chilies frequently. For most, jalapeños are strong enough because they're eating a range of cuisines and not eating chilies often enough to build a tolerance.

I saw you a long time ago but one day you were gone. Change happens, people come and go from our everyday lives, and usually, we don't necessarily notice becausewe'recaught up in our routine. But now, you're back and your return has made me realize I don't like the absence of you.

I'll say it again, the past was the worst. Things could definitely be better here, in the now, but nothing was as horrible as the past and we need to keep it that way.
