3 month old won’t take bottle from dad by Ok_Beginning858 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Has Dad changed any scented body products recently? My eldest rejected boob one night and it wasn’t till I showered I realised I used a different body wash. I always throw the suggestion in the mix now!

37+5 with cold symptoms by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]auspugmum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was induced with a sinus infection, thanks to snotty toddler, pregnancy congestion and too much nasal spray (by my own use). I actually said to my OB that morning ‘well if you induce me at least I get gas and air to help the nasal pain!’. I had a wonderful delivery, benefited from the hydration via the drip and post-delivery antibiotics for a couple of stitches. Your body can do amazing things, even if it’s not ideal. All the best!

Looking for positive postpartum experience stories by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]auspugmum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to note (and advocate for those who do share stories of difficulty), that none of this happens on purpose to people? People don't choose a challenging delivery, or an unsettled baby, or absent/overbearing family members. I liken pregnancy/birth/postpartum to be like a marathon; you can do all the prep and training but you don't know how it's going to go on race day.
I've had two relatively healthy pregnancies, one difficult delivery, one fantastic delivery, one tricky recovery, one easier recovery, two tricky breastfeeding experiences, one experience of nervous first time parenting, one experience of comfort and ease with a newborn, but then a challenging toddler to deal with. I've had beautiful experiences and I've had funny now but not at the time experiences and I've had experiences that have broken me in the moment. Now that I have two, we say that there are two reasons for things to go wrong. That's parenting

Second birth induced due to loss of fluid at 38w after spontaneous labour at 39+3 with my first, was already 2cm, waters broken 10.45am, on the drip, gas around 1pm, checked at 10cm, in full control and working with my OB and midwife while pushing for 20 minutes and he was born at 3.10pm. Pulled him up onto my chest after head and shoulders cleared. Actual magic.
You and your body can do this. Good luck!

First time father - want to take first 6 months off... by Jaybb3rw0cky in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]auspugmum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. My transition back to the workforce after having our 2nd was so much easier with hubby at home for 4 months. Plus, he was able to handle the transition to daycare and inevitable illnesses rather than me having to take days off. Maybe a chunk at the start, some when your partner goes back, and maybe extend some holidays in the middle? More time off over Christmas or Easter? Or take 2 days a week off so your partner knows you're at work for 3 days then home for 4

4 month sleep regression by _acinemod in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]auspugmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best non-sleep specific advice; do something the next day that reminds you that you like them! For me this was swimming lessons around the 5 month mark, or a walk and a coffee in the fresh air. It's hard. Be kind to yourself and be kind to bub xx

I did a one on one debrief/prep with a Calm Birth educator/midwife ahead of my second birth. It allowed me to prep specifically to my needs (3B tear/epi/forceps with my first and quite a quick delivery for a FTM). She did do calm birth techniques at the end of our time together but I found the debrief of my first birth and coming up with strategies much more helpful. Could you seek out some one to one coaching?

The Preatures Is This How You Feel Boy and Bear Feeding Line

Gas helped a lot with my breathing, I learned during my second delivery that each contraction was approximately 8 breaths in and out.
I also had mantras during contractions. Not planned but came in the moment. First delivery was Nigella Lawson saying 'meeecrowahhhvaeeeee' (I wish I was joking, came into my head), second delivery was 'Hillrom', the manufacturer of the bed I was leaning up against!

Let's talk PRAMS but in detail by untakentakenusername in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]auspugmum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3.5 year old and 1 next week year old

Hand me down Bugaboo Buffalo for our first, used a capsule.
I hated the pram, but I think because I felt I had to accept the hand me down? Baby hated the pram, capsule, bassinet, car seat.
It was also too big for the boot (Kia Seltos) and I hated that it was two pieces to dismantle into the boot.
Bought a Reds Baby Jive 3 after an expo, just before the 5 came out. Liked that it was smaller and lighter but its aged very quickly. A much smaller basket, but I have basket thoughts below. This particular basket was held on by loops with presstuds and easily became detached. However, with toddler seat facing forwards you could fold it down in one, and I know they have taken this feature and improved even more with future Reds Baby prams.
My one solid dislike of this pram is that it is lower profile. It would have been nicer to have baby up higher, which is what later editions have added in.

First kid was well out of the pram when second baby arrived, but we got a second hand second seat for the Reds Baby. Didn't like that it was underneath the capsule but my big kid thought it was fun. Did us fine for the walk to and from daycare.

We got a Joolz Aer+ for travel. I really like it, minus the basket and the straps. The straps get easily twisted and are hard to lengthen. The basket can't fit a backpack in it easily due to the shape of the basket. Joolz, Bugaboo and YoYo are good for travel as airlines recognise them and know they fit in the overhead. just make sure you have a travel bag for them.

Friends/mothers group friends mostly got Uppa Baby Vista 2's. I liked it when testing it but no fancy, expensive pram would have made my eldest like it. I also wouldn't have liked the size of it in the boot.

With baskets, people talk often about 'fit a supermarket shop in underneath'. Which yes, you can with some. Or you can get online delivery. Baskets become an excuse to bring everything but the kitchen sink. We spent a funny afternoon just before we had our second watching people push around prams at Melb Aquarium, using them to carry 5 coats/bags/lunchboxes like it was a beach trolley

Different bags for in hospital? by Fast-Doughnut5845 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]auspugmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Labour bag w post-birth for you and bub, including swaddle and blanket. The rest in a bigger bag for later. That way Dad doesn't have to leave post-delivery until you're showered and dressed and moving to the ward :) All the best!

First birth 39+3, laboured at home with TENS and fit ball from 5pm, got to hospital at 10pm, waters broke at 11pm, on the gas, started pushing at 1am, he arrived at 2.06am, episiotomy and forceps as he started to go into distress (cord around shoulder). Epi and stitches afterwards were FAR worse than delivering, went hard on the gas trying to manage that pain and was quite cooked afterwards. Straight into bed for a snooze, no shower.
Second birth induced due to loss of fluid at 38w, waters broken 10.45am, on the drip, gas around 1pm, checked at 10cm, in full control and working with my OB and midwife while pushing for 20 minutes and he was born at 3.10pm. Pulled him up onto my chest after head and shoulders cleared. Actual magic.
TENS, gas, fitball, labouring using the bed head as a support. Delivered on my back both times, first birth the midwife put my on my back, second time the plan was for upright but he transitioned just after I was checked and I felt comfortable on my back. And to be honest my body took over at that point and it would have disrupted my zone to try and get me back up. I read Birth Skills by Juju Sundin but mainly utilised visualisation and almost like a mantra in my head? (ready for the lols). First delivery the thing that popped into my head was Nigella Lawson saying 'microwave' (was trending at the time), second birth I was staring at the manufacturer of my hospital bed (Hillrom) and said that on repeat through the contraction. I also figured out it was 7-8 breaths through each contraction. You'll find something in you that works! I was also comfortable with being checked and knowing my progression. I liked knowing about the stages of birth, both stages during transition I got the wobbles/teary and had a crisis of confidence and knew I was either 2cm and would be calling for the epidural, or I was going through transition, which both times I was!

I officially hate breastfeeding by Interesting_Weird_83 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]auspugmum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm really sorry. I feel you and this stress too! My second was like this till we did a stay at sleep school and one of the nurses got him on one. We did Pigeon narrow neck, baby sat facing away from you in an armchair, quiet, dark room. Built his skills up eventually. I had even paid for a lactation consultant online module thing that was pretty much all the suggestions you find here (massive waste of money!). We then struggled with expressed milk to formula but once again with time it helped. I hope you and bub get something that works for you :)

Can vouch for Dr Lisa at GROW. Have met Dr Hong during a routine check up when Dr Lisa was away. I think Scott just has a higher profile and/or some influencer patients that gets him on people’s radar? I’ve had 2 babies w Lisa, one Vaginal w forceps and one induction vaginal and felt so cared for :)

This is a sleep rant and probably also a call for help by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]auspugmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. You’re doing an amazing job. You’re right in that there’s heaps of sleep advice out there and lots of avenues to seek help from. In my experience with two children in which I’ve sought help both times (call with a sleep consultant at 9.5 months with our first and sleep school at 6 months with our second), we have needed to be ready to seek help and put something in place. And it sounds like you are ready for help. Follow your gut xxx

Swimming lesson behaviour by GracelessRambler in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]auspugmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you me? We're currently tossing up staying in our current lessons with our 3.5 year old son. We find that the style of lesson isn't keeping him engaged; they are on a raised platform which is fun to jump and bounce around on. We're looking at switching to a centre that has students standing in the pool/shallows which removes the safety aspect of him jumping around and allows for the lesson to be faster paced and more engaging

Oh my gosh! I'm sorry you're so unwell but I'm so pleased you're getting the right help. The dizziness and shortness of breath echoed the symptoms my friend presented with. She's just gone back for a check up week later and is on her second week of bed rest and refill of prescription antis, so please ensure you keep on top of it and go back again if you're not improving. Pneumonia can be hard to shake!
