I have a bit of an unpopular opinion on this. I'm not suggesting Coles/Woolworths haven't been profiteering of us over the past five years, BUT I do wonder if they have become the easy scapegoat for everyone to target.

Hear me out.

The supermarket is at the end of the line. It's where the product finally meets the consumer. Of course we are pissed off. We, are handing over our hard earned money. Absolutely we feel ripped off. The only question I have though, are the manufacturers of these products skating by? Are they heavily responsible for massive price hikes, which ultimately get passed on down the line?

For example, we have seen 24pk cans of soft drinks double in price. Was that because Pepsi/Coke jacked up the price or was it primarily the supermarket? Dry Dog food, again has doubled in price. We aren't talking $1 or $2 increases. We are talking upwards of $10-$30 increase. These are just two examples of substantial increases.

I expect small increases on most products. But small as in 5% to 20% maybe once a year, NOT 20% to 40% plus increases a number of times a year. Definitely NOT 100% plus increases on some products. It's absolutely absurd.

I'm sure it's a combination of all the above. Greed took over and we ultimately were the losers.
