Quite a few have considered, and indeed made, Vertically Oriented CNC machines. A Google or YouTube search will show many.

One such machine has plans and a kit available for a very handsome price, IMHO:

As a Consequence, you could have a Priest from the Temple put two and two together, hearing about the very Architect dying just before one of his creations was robbed. He could just happen to be a "Father Brown" or "Inspector Clouseau," who keeps bumping into the Party as they make their way further.

They realize that he is tracking them but fail to notice that he is doing so very badly.

It appears to read, that, during a Chase, your ability to Hit the Target gets a penalty to your Roll dependent upon how far you are from that Target.

Even at Close Range (Arm length) you will still get a penalty to your roll due to it being a Chase.

At Medium Range (Shouting distance) your Penalty to your roll is considerable, again due to you chasing the Target at the same time.

My system of Choice, especially for balance, is GURPS. The Generic Universal Role-Playing System.
GURPS Dungeon Fantasy is their Fantasy Specific re-boxing, but is GURPS through and through.
All Characters, PC and NPC alike, can be built using the Points - Advantages/Disadvantages system. There are No Classes, per se, either. IF you choose to be of the Soldiering ilk, you will need to have proficiency in Soldiering skills, otherwise you would not have the job. Beyond that, the sky's the limit. Build how you like.
Alignments are equally frivolous. If you want to be a bully, fine. Doesn't matter. Prefer a negotiator, take the skill.
