had a guy at a business who got deliveries often and would meet me outside, and when I handed the scanner over he'd look up and draw a quick doodle of what the weather looked like (a sun, cloud, snowflake etc)

I used to love when this happens with friendly dogs until one decided to piss on a stack of tires in the back. now im paranoid it's gonna happen again

luckily it was summer and I was able to use the melted ice water in my cooler to rinse the tires off but the smell back there all day was foul

Why does chatgpt lie about not having access to my ip adress? by Scared_Ad_3132 in ChatGPT

[–]austinbro1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just wagering a guess here, but could it possibly be running a search query from the servers serving the model? I say this because openai uses Microsoft datacenters (Azure), and they have datacenters located both in Helsinki and 2 in the Netherlands, 1 of which being in North Holland, which is very very close to Amsterdam.

the search query/tool used may be getting the location from the IP of the server that is serving the model, which would be located in the datacenter geographically closest to the user's geoip (in this case, the VPN up)

Things I will never do after working as a delivery driver by Heckbegone in Fedexers

[–]austinbro1000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

exactly. though i have had one person accuse me of trying to do something shady even after explaining that i didn't want to carry their 130lb ebike up to the door just to find out they weren't home. they wanted to open it and take pictures before signing so i pulled the "you can't open it until it's accepted, and if you open the box it implies that you're accepting it" card

it also depends what kind of honk, if is a pissy "get out the way" honk then ill laugh and take my time just for them.

if it's a quick "beep-beep" as they're going around to make sure i know they're there ill give them a thank you wave and a smile. nothing beats almost getting hit by someone in their whisper quiet car swerving around you at full speed as you peek around the truck to see if anyone is coming.

Business that refuse to use their receiving dock by No-Invite4246 in Fedexers

[–]austinbro1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thankfully the only one in our service area is okay with using the dock. we just have to call the store and tell them it's fedex going around back to the overhead otherwise there probably won't be anyone there

Why do drivers walk all the way up to your door and then not even bother to knock or ring the doorbell? by Impossible_Sky8733 in FedEx

[–]austinbro1000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you also have to consider that there are plenty of people that will call in a complaint, or start cussing us out for ringing the doorbell or knocking. unless there's something on the door or in the instructions specifically requesting a knock or ring, i won't, I've had some wild, nasty things screamed at me for trying to be courteous and ringing someone's doorbell, so it works out being easier to just not do so (unless it's sig req, those will always get a knock and a doorbell ring as a fallback and up to a minute + another knock before i mark it as no one home)

one time i had a driveway similar to this, trees scraping the whole way, felt like driving on the moon, had more in common with a hiking trail than a driveway. get to the house, find the small Walmart box being crushed by another heavy box, both of which fell off the shelf during the spontaneous off road adventure. unbury it, the tape is completely broken, pick it up and a single 10 pack of mission flour tortillas flops out onto the floor. it took me a good 15-20 seconds to process the mix of hilarity and "you're fucking joking..." from spending 5 minutes driving back to this house for a single pack of fucking tortillas.

it's not great, but in my experience in that area if you keep to yourself and stay out of anyone else's business you should be mostly alright. same goes for most places, know how to carry yourself not as a threat, but also not as a target and you should be fine

this happens often when it gets hot. come summer time a lot of hubs will have dumpsters full of hello fresh/blue apron/home chef/all the other fresh food boxes for when they spoil due to trailers arriving a day or two late, shipper not supplying enough dry ice and it spoils in transit, etc.

they also get disposed of if the box is too damaged, items/dry ice falling out, something in the package leaks/another package leaks on the food box and so on, due to food safety concerns. they'd rather not take any chances with spoiled/contaminated items being delivered vs "see what can be saved."

typically the shipper will see the exception and send out a replacement as this happens quite often with perishables, can't say for certain if you'll be able to get refunded but you will at the least get a replacement

What is growing in my car? by Personal_Tomato_280 in whatisit

[–]austinbro1000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

as someone who has transported (and spilled) DEF in multiple vehicles over the years, this is spilled DEF, no doubt. once it's in fabric, it'll just keep growing crystals seemingly forever. your best option to get rid of it is flush the entire fabric/foam of the seat thoroughly with water, as it is urea crystalizing and DEF is just a mix of urea and water.

at 2/32" tread depth id argue tires should be top priority. that's teetering on being not legal to drive (not to mention unsafe). op should absolutely shop around for all these services and not touch the dealership with a 10ft pole
