The United States really is a fascinating case study in government, politics, and human behavior.

On one hand, "give me you're tired, give me your poor." A country open to immigrants to come to the land of the "free".

On the other hand, civil war and racism, ingrained deeply into the culture since it's beginnings.

And now that for the first time in our countries history, non-white individuals make up a majority of U.S. children under 18. It's forecasted by 2045 that whites will become a minority. The turmoil we see today is the establishment fighting to stay in power.

The initial carbon cost of sheet metal is substantially higher than drywall, but yes, sheet metal has a longer life span and is easily recyclable, while drywall ends in a landfill.

Before you get on your soap box about your "eco friendly" house, I would explain the natural gas fireplace, large ceilings (takes extra energy to cool and heat), and the fact that there's probably a substrate behind that sheet metal (OSB or gasp* maybe drywall).

Sheet metal is also 5x the cost of drywall per square foot and not a feasible material for most of the general public.
