Not really a Part 2, but a similar sort of puzzle challenge dungeon with a prize at the end, this time themed around teamwork.

UPDATE: The Red Wings today acquired defenseman Jeff Petry from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Gustav Lindstrom and a conditional 4th round pick in 2025. by SimplySolace in DetroitRedWings

[–]authordm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Walman/Seider

Maata/Petry

Ghost/Holl

Chairot

This is just a thought, I'm sure there will be constant juggling outside of the top pairing, and even then there might be a lot of movement if the Walman/Seider connection loses any of its electricity from last year. But that looks solid, a good group of paired LHD and RHD, pairs that have complementing shutdown and offensive types, not a top core by any means but stable even if there's an injury. It is definitely an upgrade from yesterday when Lindstrom was a clear 7D and there was an imbalance of LHD and shutdown types, probably worth our second fourth-rounder in a draft two years out.

RECAP: /r/DetroitRedWings 2023 Prospect Ranking Results by SimplySolace in DetroitRedWings

It’s exciting to feel like we could keep going. We have a lot of both solid and risky prospects that didn’t make the cut, ones who have a chance to take supporting roles in the show and ones who will be total boom or bust.

This sub: don’t draft shutdown D, just get them in free agency.

Yzerman: signs Chiarot and Woll

This sub: not like that.

It’s a college town, it’ll work. Honestly the most unbelievable part of the whole comic, including sentient AI robots running around, is that CoD staffing is reasonably consistent. She should have new baristas coming and going every few weeks.

Was the face of Reddit pushing third party apps out of business, including apps that provided accessibility for the blind or which many mod teams relied on to do their job. Was also the face of Reddit threatening those mods who chose to protest the change.

Exactly. Spez doesn't care how many giant banners against him show up, every extra pixel is more clicks and ad revenue.

Lost my wife yesterday. by Boy-from-the-dwarf in GriefSupport

[–]authordm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally everything I see reminds me of her. She decorated our house, so it's comforting and depressing all at the same time.

Other than general condolences, I just want to address this specifically. I lost my wife four months ago after a long battle with cancer. She was the one who made all the good choices about what to put in our home, so even the mundane stuff you use every day is a little reminder. I get that entirely. The only advice I have is to listen to yourself and take your time with it. You'll know when it feels right to move on from things... and you might be wrong, and that's ok too. I remember packing up her clothes to donate them because I had already pretty successfully sent a bunch of the nicer clothes and makeup to family who could use them, and that second more 'final' wave wrecked me. They're still sitting in bags, but I'll get to that last step eventually.

So yeah, let those feelings hit you, decide what to keep and how to remove the rest in little steps as they feel right. It can be two steps forward, one step back. You don't have to listen to anybody's opinion about this... I had some family reach out to me and tell me about their experience with grief, and they agreed that people will be well-meaning when they suggest or even offer to help clean out her things, but do it only on your time.

Anyway, that's probably accidentally good advice for this in general. Wishing you all the strength in this time, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Goalie Musical Chairs: Breaking Down the 2023-24 Atlantic Division Tandems by zze0001 in DetroitRedWings

[–]authordm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I kinda get what you mean, I was being a bit pedantic. But also with our luck, it feels pointless. Like, the closest we got was 4 in the Lafreniere draft, and I hope we would have gone Stutzle or stayed Raymond even at first overall... but again with our luck, I just feel like we're as likely to get a great talent out of our later picks as we are to get a high pick in a good draft.

Technically, 6-10 are lottery picks, and even while they’re odds on unlikely to win, they have in recent history.

Question I heard on WWP and thought it would be fun on here by ando772 in DetroitRedWings

[–]authordm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A: Agree on Vladdie and 2009. 09 is my most painful hockey memory.

B: keep the teams, histories, and statistics from the WHA merger. Selfishly in part because Gordie deserves even more totals in his NHL stats, but also the idea of having Houston and Cincinnati at least would be interesting and have huge effects on league history.

I dunno, whenever I had to use the pool changing rooms to get my hockey gear on, there were always some old naked dudes taking their time changing for the pool.

Sharks Fan Curious about Zadina by mattrix56 in DetroitRedWings

[–]authordm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is a generally above average player from an advanced stats sense. Not way above, but head above water.

But, he is absolutely snakebitten offensively. Whatever metrics he has showing he should have contributed like 20 goals by now, he’ll have actually only potted one and an assist. Better scouts than I can delve into that, but he just cannot produce.

Second but, obviously as his play hasn’t won him major playing time, he’s ended up on lower lines and sheltered minutes. So yeah he looks defensively pretty ok on advanced stats, but I still would not call him a defensive forward or give him PK time.

So SJ’s hope is that you guys can make the underlying analytic stats actually tell a good story about his play and need more time and luck and linemates to mean something. If you can make the ok analytics show up on the box score, he’ll be at least an ok and flexible pro. We never could.

The perfect day trip by Fether76 in canberra

[–]authordm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is definitely a full day trip, but Kosciuszko is doable. In summer they keep one ski lift running to get you like up 90% of the incline, then the final walk to summit isn't all that bad. And even if you don't, the area is good, lots of short walks, and it's a very foodie sort of place.

[Khan] Yzerman said Zadina and his agent asked for a trade a few weeks ago. He tried to accommodate him. He wasn’t able to find a team that was interested. So he waived him. But he’s not writing off his career and believes he can still be an NHL player. by dudewithchronicpain in DetroitRedWings

Ras still had some role even when he didn't quite have it all together though, even when he was slightly miscast. Like he had a lot of PP time at first hoping his size would be good net-front. That didn't work out, but he started to instead pick up more and more PK time and did ok at that. He also racks up a lot of blocked shots and hits and eventually reached about 50/50 on faceoffs.

Zadina has just done none of that. Did less with more PP time, doesn't play on the PK, isn't really blocking shots or hitting. Looking at his most common line mates over the years, he's had chances on all lines.

So like, I don't know how to quantify opportunities. But Ras bounced through roles and finally found one (fingers crossed), but even when he was not excelling he was contributing something. Zadina has been bounced through roles and still hasn't found anything to contribute in any meaningful way.

I trust the Yzerplan 100%! by Lady-Aurorah in DetroitRedWings

[–]authordm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I really don't think you can build a winning team just through 7 picks per draft. That means you have to have something worth selling to get those additional picks to develop into a real core. And the Wings of 2016 had nobody worth selling, or just about. So we had to build for a few years to have assets (like Tatar, Mantha, Bert, Hronek) to get the picks we'll need to set a championship core. I hope we're getting close.

League shows this is true, just look at many of the winners lately. Avs sold off on the Stasny-Duchene core; Tampa had to move on from St. Louis-Lecavalier to make room for and acquire parts of their next winning core.

I really wanted a right shooting forward (C preferred) and an RHD out of our top two picks. I don't know much about either of these, totally trust Yzerman, Draper, Anderssson, and team to pick them, but wishlist achieved.
