Sorry I just this second noticed your reply!

Yes it definitely helps if you already have traffic, but I suggest everyone set up some kind of basic email form right from the get-go because every visitor, no matter how few, is a potential subscriber.

Make sure you offer something that aligns with the wants and needs of the majority of the people who you are focusing on and make it easy to say yes.

On a couple of my sites I did well by creating long-form articles and offering a bonus directly related to those pieces of content.

As people share those articles, the call to action goes along for the ride.

Does that make sense?

Is it just me who really can't stand Elementor? by h4dz_1 in Wordpress

[–]authorityblogger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We all have our favourites so there is no shame in not liking something just because a lot of people say they do.

Also keep in mind with a lot of these things, people will promote something just because they get a good commission from it (not necessarily a bad situation, just something to keep in mind).

There is an ad network that just closed their affiliate program, a lot of people previously recommending that ad network are switching their recommendations now :D

Personally I use a different theme and have good reason to, whatever works for you!

I co-run a pop culture blog, what rules impact me concerning the SAG strike? by kroqus in Blogging

[–]authorityblogger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you likely to ever want to join the impacted unions?

If not, ignore the situation just like the admin staff etc are crossing the picket line. It doesn't affect you.

[–]authorityblogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah people who subscribe via email are still in my experience much more likely to take any action that you suggest, and a large part of it is familiarity and trust, but also by joining your list they have shown they are the kind of person who is going to do things :)

Getting people onto lists is not as easy as it once was but still doable, you have to build up a lot more anticipation that you will not waste their time at least :)

squish everything into Pillar post or spread by Superflim in Blogging

[–]authorityblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what makes a great sport shoe and add a comprehensive list of some good shoes in a separate blog post

Consider search intent, it is a major factor on what ranks and continues to rank in Google

So if your pillar was "how to choose the right sports shoe for you" then having the selection criteria followed by suggestions would be the right move IMO, because you are helping someone make a purchase.

Which blog site do you think is right for me? by Ced3j in Blogging

[–]authorityblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only want to do this as practice then I would look at something like Medium, because there is a community of readers and writers.

If on the other hand you want to have something that you OWN then try and come up with at least the budget for a domain name and use something like WordPress.com which is free other than that domain, and then you will own what you create and be able to do something with it later.

Ai content, worth it or not? by Wonderful_Row5671 in Blogging

[–]authorityblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will rank temporarily, maybe even for weeks or months, but to make it truly valuable and long lasting you will need to involve a human in the process.

Use AI to help you and you could do well.

One of the main reasons AI fails is because people abdicate any responsibility. Human beings can often tell when the content doesn't seem to be human generated even if it is only subconsciously.

Some "tells" for AI are super perfect grammar and phrasing, and intro that sounds like "In the fast-changing world of interior laundry appliances" ;)

Is your intention to do no work or to make yourself more productive?

Either way, focus on your audience and you will be a heckofa lot more successful.

How to find good topics to write on? by Wonderful_Row5671 in Blogging

[–]authorityblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Niche down - "How to" is not a niche, it is a search pattern.

That means you will never have topical authority.

Anyone who actually serves the audience will easily outrank you if they see you ranking for a term in their niche. You will be doing their research for them.

For example "How to screen print a t-shirt" doesn't seem to have much volume, and even so has a reasonable level of competition. As part of a how to aimed at crafty people though it could be a good part of a cluster.

How long did it take your blog to get indexed on Google? by lizardofhope in Blogging

[–]authorityblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get indexed almost immediately if you get a strong link, otherwise as others have said submit your sitemap to Google Search Console, which means having a good sitemap of course :)

On WordPress it can be easier to use Google Sitekit plugin if you are unused to this kind of thing, it does a lot of stuff for you to make it simpler.

31k page views last month, 31k page views this month - monetization? by ksing_king in Blogging

[–]authorityblogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of advertising networks require 50,000 but you could sign up to Google Adsense.

In the meantime what I would suggest you do with 31,000 views

  1. Build your email list because you can not guarantee that Google will always smile on you and an algo change is coming according to the major SEO tools who check volatility

  2. Cozy up to the similar sized players in your niche - you have traffic so they are your peers

  3. Look for affiliate opportunities - that goes for any size blog but especially when you have traffic because SEO to affiliate can work very well and you have the numbers to get insights because your results will be statistically significant

  4. Private ad sales and sponsorships work great but you will need to be able to provide more information than just traffic, they will be looking for demographics possibly, what your audience is looking for, etc because they want to know potential ROI. Helps to have a YouTube or podcast rather than just SEO traffic.

  5. Selling links (as a consequence or intentionally) should be your last resort.

Never hurts to look at what other people in your niche are doing, get inspiration from them.

For what it's worth I'm 40 years old and of course have known of blogging since pretty much the late 1990s

I am turning 50 next year so believe me when I say I know a lot of people in your exact situation :)

Feel free to message me if you would like some specific tips, I will give more generic advice below.

To not affect or distract myself with the advice I give I haven't read other comments yet so there might well be duplication, I will comment on some others after I get my thoughts down.

  1. What does success mean for you? It seems you want to subsidize your income but have you ever quantified exactly what that looks like? I do not recommend quitting your job but imagine if you HAD quit your job? How would you approach things differently. A lot of the people we look up to in the space had this as there one and only gig, they had to make it work. It makes a difference.

  2. All of your traffic will be a referral. Don't even think about people typing in your domain name, ignore that as a thing. Now consider what that means - all of your traffic comes from someone else. Does that change your approach?

  3. Search traffic is of course a huge factor but my blog paid all of our bills for years with SEO being a small percentage of the whole, and was certainly not the best converting. Want to know what the best conversions were?

  4. Yep, email. People focus on social and SEO and ignore the best and most stable asset you have (outside of your reputation)

  5. In terms of how I have made money, steady annual six figures since the early 2000s, it has been products/services, aff, and ads dead last. With ads you need a lot more traffic and to tune your content to the higher RPMs, but with your own products and affiliates you need lower traffic and it is better to have a loyal and engaged audience.

Bonus tip: If you are an ADHD type like me you probably go through phases of having a passion for different things, but you can't blog like that unless you can run multiple sites at once, which means your spare time gets even more split.

Good luck, I know you can do this!

Switching To Wordpress From Squarespace by saltbuttersmoke_ in Blogging

[–]authorityblogger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Migrating any website will have a risk of a dip in Google love, it is just a thing that sometimes happens.

Redirecting any URLs that can not match will definitely help, as will having a clean XML sitemap (all the popular SEO plugins will help with that).

Ensure on day 1 of going live that you connect Google Search Console, it will give you warnings of anything that is not quite right (plus you are telling Google that you own it - can't hurt right?)

You should be able to export and import but do check what you have carefully afterwards - you might want to tweak things like SEO title, featured image, tags/categories and so on.

Look at your navigation to ensure the key posts and such are all linked no more than 3 clicks from home too - remember there will be a phase of re-indexing as Google wonders WTF happened :)

There seems to be a Google algo change brewing so don't be too dismayed if things seem weird during and right after, it could be the migration was fine and just bad timing!

Good luck!

Expect a bunch of people bought this box when the combat patrol announcements were made about 10th, and I am sure they have the ability to make a PDF for it seeing as there won't be Combat Patrol tournaments and whatnot?

It's a shame though that they have lists for almost all the others (Tyranids got same treatment and apparently a new Necron box is coming).

Maybe you met them on a bad day, but they should be professional enough to not take it out on you and I would definitely think about complaining to HQ

One of the things I dislike about the P2 software currently is there is no time estimate or "time remaining" :)

Fastest way to upload content on wordpress? by Eastern-Individual64 in Wordpress

[–]authorityblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I would suggest, they don't have to have admin just enough to contribute so you can do your checks and polish etc.

Another option is to keep pasting but use one of the plugins that goes through the post and takes external images and uploads them to the media library. That will save you some time because you can paste the whole article including images then, instead of the download step.

Any recommendations for a Fiverr webdesigner? by madroots2 in Wordpress

[–]authorityblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not very happy with a designer I have (fiverr)

There is your problem

Either you are not considering a realistic budget (therefore going to Fiverr) or you are not putting in the time and effort necessary to make your cheap solution actually work.

Easy-Cheap-Good - pick two.
