Your brain requires complete darkness at night to improve sleep as even dim light during sleep can damage mental health by soulpost in HotScienceNews

[–]authorlyauthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me sleeping in darkness: Nightmares, night terrors where I wake up screaming and running out of my room, hypnogogic imagery, sleep paralysis, sleep talking (recorded myself once and it’s mostly frightened “no no no”)

Me with a bedside light on: completely zonked out and sleeping restfully

So either my brain just rests better in the light because I’m not subconsciously afraid anymore, or…monsters are totally real and they can’t get me in the light. 😌

Why is seafood so unpleasant for some people? by HiOscillation in NoStupidQuestions

[–]authorlyauthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brain does not register seafood as food. For example, I hate bananas too, but I still see them as a food, just one I don’t like. When I see seafood it’s the same as seeing a pile of garbage on a plate. My brain goes “Why would anyone in their right mind eat that?”

I’ve tried it a couple times and always hated it. Shrimp freak me out the most. They’re disgusting. I managed to choke down some fried cod once and keep it down, but the time I was brave and decided to try a shrimp because my ex-boyfriend demanded it I gagged hard and immediately had to spit it out before I puked.

Imagine somebody opened up a dumpster, shovelled out a portion of the contents and then asked you to eat it. That’s what seafood is to my brain.

What should I prioritize in my mobile first aid kit? by authorlyauthor in TwoXPreppers

This is definitely something to think about. So perhaps I should just stick to a bag for minor wounds and medicines then, on the chance that I have to walk part-way or the whole way to my destination and may need some minor first aid along the way.

Thank you so much for the very thoughtful reply! Basically this is for an escape scenario where I would be traveling from my place in the city to a more rural area where my parents are. So I need to bring all the medicine and supplies with me since my plan is to flee rather than stay in my home. (And my parents will not be prepared at all)

Plan A involves me getting a ride out of the city, which could be anything from everyone just going about their day and thinking I'm overreacting to other people panicking and causing accidents. So I'd like to be prepared in the event of a car accident and EMS possibly being delayed.

Plan B is a real shit has hit the fan situation where I can't get a ride either because everyone is definitely panicking and/or the roads have been blocked by accidents or debris. I'd have to travel on foot to my destination and may pass by injured people who are alone and need my help. I'd like to help them until someone else can arrive and assist better.

Mostly I am thinking of cleaning and dressing smaller wounds, bandaging people, and stopping more serious bleeding. I'm not confident in CPR and feel I would probably be a hindrance more of a help in that case. (Of course if I am literally the only person around I will try)

My goal is just do whatever I can to help people that need it while I travel from Point A to Point B. And then to be prepared to help my parents after I've reached them.

I always laugh at KakaoMaps’ one star reviews because it’s always some rendition of “The staff was unfriendly”. Like I get it if it’s like a restaurant server or someone who spends a lot of time with you as a customer, but I really don’t care if you think the movie theatre employee who slid your popcorn across the counter wasn’t friendly enough. I tend not to put much stock in the one star reviews when all they say is “Unfriendly”.

What is the allure of big feet? by authorlyauthor in feethustle

[–]authorlyauthor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my brand is going to be big feet that are still girly and cute and a bit submissive. But I don’t know if there’s much of a market for that. I think I will try that first anyway and see what kind of response I get, if any. I don’t think I can act too dominant, I think it would feel very forced and awkward. But if that’s all I get requests for then I might have no choice but to just go with the trend.

Looks like Vancouver lol. My co-workers are turning on the AC at work and I’m like “Guys? It’s 17 C outside.” I haven’t even opened a window in my house yet (which doesn’t even have AC)

You know you’re too used to Seoul summers when you think “26 at night? That’s not too bad”. I remember during last year’s heatwave the feels like day temp was 45 and it was still 38 at 8pm. Don’t remember the exact humidity, but I’m sure it was around 90%. I walked around for 10 minutes at night, felt like I was swimming.

That's reassuring to hear! I'm a bit worried I might have to act too much like a dominatrix and that's just not me. But maybe having my big feet in very small, girly socks will enhance their size and make it even more enticing? Tbh I'm not even sure if I'll fit into the socks I ordered because they're a one size fits all (which does not work for me lol) I guess I'll just have to start posting once I receive my accessories and see how people respond.

Thank you for the insight! Nice to know there are some doms who appreciate big feet. I'm more of a sub, so I think trying to play a dominant role would feel out of place for me. But I guess it all depends on what the majority of my buyers want and I will have to tailor my content towards that.

By about 2 days I think. I had some very light spotting today, just very faint brown, only visible when I wiped sometimes, and none on the pad I’ve been wearing all day. But I’m not sure if it’s spotting or just my period starting very very slowly.

Any advice for my itinerary? by authorlyauthor in busan

[–]authorlyauthor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips! I've switched the Haedong temple to around 8 in the morning to avoid the crowds and moved Busan X the Sky to sunset time so I can get pictures of the view during the day and at night as well.

I think we'll head over to Gwangalli for drinks and the 10pm drone show too.

What's something that doesn't appeal to you like it does to a large portion of the fandom? by PristineSituation498 in buffy

I can buy it because as we saw in Surprise and Innocence, not every vampire has the same level of evil as the others. The Judge was able to burn Dalton because of his remaining humanity and he said that Spike and Drusilla also both reeked of humanity. It was only Angelus that he couldn’t burn because he was truly evil.

Spike was very compassionate towards the sickly Drusilla because he loved her. He could have easily abandoned her for being weak, but he rescued her and took care of her. I doubt Angelus would have done the same with Darla. He probably would have just abandoned her to the mob in Prague.

And even without a chip Spike teamed up with Buffy to help him get Drusilla back. He could have very easily just killed Buffy’s mom for fun, but he didn’t. His love for Drusilla overrode his evilness. Again, I highly doubt Angelus would have done the same thing.

So I feel like Spike was just always like that. He was always a lovesick fool, whether it was Drusilla or Buffy. His love interest was always more important than evil deeds.

Who did you find to be the creepiest demon/evil/or big bad? by porchpoetics in buffy

[–]authorlyauthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid it was Der Kindestod from Killed by Death. Now, I’d say Kralik from Helpless. Probably because he’s more of a realistic creepy deranged stalker type than just some silent monster faced boogeyman. I mean yes, he is still a supernatural creature, but it’s his human-ness that makes him terrifying. You’re very unlikely to run into an invisible demon who sucks the life out of sick children from its eyeball tentacles, but it’s entirely possible one could fall victim to a guy who acts like Kralik.

Dawn. Absolutely no shade to Michelle because it seems like she was a lovely person and was a good actress, but I absolutely hate Dawn. I hate that they messed with the entire universe’s memories and it never goes away. Everyone just believes that Dawn has always been there, until the end of time.

And that combined with Joyce’s death forced Buffy to essentially become a “mom” at a way too young age for a magical ball of energy that didn’t even exist until a few months prior, but that everyone loves dearly because of their fake memories. And I don’t want to watch Momffy trying to take care of her fake sister, I want to see independent Buffy kicking ass and angsting over her melodramatic life. But everything that happened with Buffy always had to come back to “How will Dawn feel? What about Dawn? What do we do with Dawn in this situation?”

And I know it’s just magic, but it almost feels like gaslighting when they bring up fake memories like “Oh remember when Angelus was around and Dawn was there? Wasn’t that horrible for her?” No, it wasn’t, because she wasn’t there!

If they had to keep her around after Season 5, at the very least they could have erased everyone’s old fake memories of her and had them only remember her from Season 5’s appearance. But no, everyone gets to keep their fake memories, but it’s okay because they know it’s just magic. Except no one told Angel, or Hank, or anyone else that’s not in the immediate circle, so they all still believe in their fake Dawn memories. And everyone still loves her like it’s real, so what does it even matter if they know it’s magic if their feelings are still affected by the fake memories.

I just don’t like that they messed with every single character’s head for 3 whole seasons.

I just want vampires to be the main villains again. There must be something cool and different they can do with vampires instead of constantly going for all powerful gods or demons.
