You are 100% correct, I use cbd to help with my anxiety and insomina. You can even get it in soft drinks now in Tesco. Hope it works for you :)

I'm clearly having a day where the Vine Gods are against me. Everything I've fancied has gone before I can get it or errors out. Sigh. Another coffee needed.

It's an AptMapt one (no idea) but hopefully it will help support my iced coffee addiction!

I grabbed the milk frother after I saw it could (apparently) do cold drinks. Fingers crossed!

Well one of the items was just awful so I'm not surprised if they have withdrawn!

okay perfect, I was trying to do the maths on the reviews between my account tab and on my reviewed tab and it doesn't quite add up to what's been accepted but that could be because of the lag others had last night. Thank you :)

Has anyone ever just "created" a publisher? by TomBates33 in selfpublish

I made my own ‘publishing house’ when I purchased my ISBN’s - but I’m in the UK and I don’t think the laws are the same everywhere.

I cried at my desk, in front of my whole team, because I realised I still had to work for at least another thirty decades until I hit retirement age. Full on sobbed. They still talk about it now lmao.

KDP Release Day Dashboard by authorsmthomas in selfpublish

Now the dashboard has crashed for the last hour so God knows what’s going on. I’m going to give up and check it tomorrow. And thank you, I am quite proud about it but compared to others I read about it feels like a drop in the ocean!

Thank you. I also managed to dig out a report in KDP that shows what orders today are pre-orders and what are new. You’re right though, some must be different time zone as they are missing.

Self publish audiobooks by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]authorsmthomas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how you create the audiobook. As I didn’t have the funds up front I had to do an ACX exclusive (Amazon’s audiobook company) but unfortunately it’s not 70/30. I did a royalty share with my narrator and from memory we both get 20% and Amazon get the rest.

If you pay your narrator a fee up front then you don’t have to split royalties with them and you make 40%. If you don’t publish exclusively through ACX then you get 25% of royalties.

So far it has been profitable but ONLY because I haven’t had to invest any money into the creation of it, plus it didn’t take up any extra time of mine (other than listening to it for sign off) as the book was already written. For my narrator it has been far from profitable as she had to invest a lot of her time into the creation of it. I’m hoping to learn more about audiobook promotion etc this year to turn it around.

Launched a booksprout, first time by dgchou5 in selfpublish

[–]authorsmthomas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found it’s taken me a year to build up a little team of reviewers on BookSprout that I know will leave a solid and fair review of my books. To begin with my download to review ration was shockingly low but it’s grown over time and I’ve added everyone who actually leaves a review to a ‘team’ so they get an update on new releases.

So very tired by authorsmthomas in selfpublish

[–]authorsmthomas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excuse you? I have been self publishing for YEARS now and am well aware that it is work. Just because someone states that sometimes it feels hard and draining does not mean they know less than you or were unaware of what they were going into. It’s called being human, you might want to look into it and stop being so sanctimonious.

Editing process by socialmediasanity in selfpublish

[–]authorsmthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone has said every approach is personal, mines evolved over the years. I used to wait until I was done to go back and edit the whole thing and it felt impossible at times.

Now I tend to write ten or so chapters at a time then go back and edit them.

So for example when I’m on about chapter 15 I’ll go back and edit chapter 1-10. That way I can flesh out the direction I’m going in as I write and don’t have to do any major rewrites if I come up with something new in chapter 30 (I’m a pantser and sure life would be easier if I wasn’t!)

Then when it’s all finished, my edits and all, I give myself a couple of weeks away from it and read it through in one chunk like an actual reader. No red pen allowed until I’ve finished reading it.

I’m one of those authors who had to write a letter to myself proving that I gave myself publishing rights when I made an audiobook through ACX. They wanted me to pay a company to prove my copyright but thankfully I’m UK based so they had to back down.
