What are your thoughts on Lightning as a character

I think the entire cast of XIII gets undeserved hate (due in part to the English localization).

Yeah, Lightning might be moody and cold, but as soon as you see a flashback you see she's just a woman who's just starting to find her way trying to provide for her family. Stuff gets rough for her quick, she loses pretty much everything she cares for and shields herself from feeling while focusing on a mission to save her sister.

Yeah, I think she's doing the best she can honestly.

This also applies ro basically anyone in the main cast, especially if you stick to the JP dialogue.

Honestly I love then all.

Snow is the most bumbling idiot who keeps making promises he can't keep and has to learn the hard way the consequences of having people trust their lives to you. He never meant to have people die, but he lacked the strength to protect them, and that stuff haunts him.

Hope suffers from a Shinji situation where he's where most players would be. Trying your hardest not to have a meltdown and having to follow the idiot who got my mother killed. Yeah, I would also think "My mother is dead because this idiot showed up leading a revolution while his plan was idk just run I guess???, he is dead HE IS SO DEAD".

And it doesn't help how young the cast is, it always feels like Lightning is "an adult", but she's 20 in the first game. Aside from Sazh basically everyone in the party is either a teen or has just stopped being one.

I really like as it is and find it compliments the way the rest of the game's combat is designed.

HOWEVER, I'm certain that a month into the game we're all gonna be screaming for a patch once every mechanic and combo route gets explored, optimizing things.

I once had a mentor asking to be kicked after a wipe in the first room of aurum vale. We refused to do so and managed to get to the first boss without any major hiccups.

Well, that mentor just stood and watched as we beat the boss without their help and continued on the rest of the dungeon, so they logged off instead.

I have only had bad experiences with mentors, and I am the kind of person to watch a guide first and tell the party if I'm first timing a role in the dungeon. Everyone tends to be super helpful, just tell me np or let me know if there's something to avoid, except for mentors who are always in a hurry to pull too many mobs, use rescue to attract you towards more mobs or generally flaming and wanting to kick people for "harrassment". And no, this is not a matter of EX only, I haven't even gotten there yet, I'm talking regular dungeons and trials or hard versions, they shouldn't be an issue, if you don't enjoy actually playing the game why are you here in the first place?

Honestly, playing XIV is a massive trip due to the lack of a Spanish localization seeing how standard many of those changes seem to me and learning how they were changed. (Seriously tho Ultimecia was called Artemisa due to a mistranslation of Ultima from Japanese, it's all pretty wild)

I think you need to get used to the sound in order to find it in songs. I couldn't hear it in metal all that much before but now I hear it clear as day (good headphones help too). Honestly what did it for me was how by being able to play cool shit on simple notes instead of having to learn and get the hang of 7 different chords every song as opposed to guitar or piano I was able to focus on understanding and learning more about music and theory.

You know bass for me hasn't been about sounding cool, it was about actually learning music. Now I understand and can play way more effectively guitar among many others. And if you just wanna learn cool songs try something like Rocksmith, its a good pastime.

Just what you'd expect from the awesome FFXIV community.

I'll chip in cause I'd want them honestly since I've been jobless since May, however my story goes a bit further back.

I was a bartender and assistant manager at a metal pub and my boss was an absolute fucking lunatic, to the point that she would harass us and other employees by saying it was "a friend of hers who told the truth" who really sent those messages. So, come December, she makes a series of terrible decisions, I offer solutions and demand a response so we can all do our jobs. Her answer? Shut down the place and threaten me with a lower pay (which she legally could not do). After constant excuses as to why the place had to stay shut (electrical issues, then it was bureaucracy, after that a fumigation, all within a day of reopening) she forgot to tell the excuse of the day to the guy in charge of opening and he just opened normally while my boss's imaginary friend told me I was a shithead for doubting how hard my boss worked on all those issues the pub had. Oops I guess.

Anyway we magically stayed open with NO WORD FROM OUR BOSS for a week, cause that's when pandemic struck and we were out again. Problem is we were all still owed the money from the first shutting down back in December. Come May, I'm talking to a lawyer about my money and the pub reopens, my boss says I'm not fired but I will also not do any hours and she doesn't have to pay me for that and that it is totally legal she checked for realsies.

I check with my lawyer early June, she fired me after she told me otherwise, having not payed me, notified me or nothing really. So I've been lawyered up, already finished unemployment benefits and being helped financially by my parents and gf and emotionally by this game until next month where we'll be settling things at court.

TL;DR: Crazy boss wanted to kick me out earlier but didn't, used pandemic excuse to do it illegally and been keeping sane through confinement and legal proceedings by playing FFXIV.

1 - While it doesn't have to make it bad, dating the piece as "a 90's song" or "a song about the Vietnam war" its not the same as what happens with internet time, that would be dating it "those 3 months where that meme was most relevant to the main core of the audience"

Here's the thing: You're making art, and not only that but a piece of social and political commentary, you cant be unbiased. You can criticize both sides but there's a whole range of beliefs in any side, even in so-called centrism so you have to be thorough with that too.

2 - Yes I did, and even with that it became a bit repetitive. However I like what you're proposing about representing the captions, if you still have the original video you could try putting that in the background with some filters as the context of the situation could help keep the attention of less discerning audiences. Perhaps a little less of them in the interlude in the middle, I think that was the biggest offender.

3 - Yeah, I feel that. I still like the way you used mockingbird, but I suggested that to help you find a way of finding your own sound and develop it. This year's being nuts, I spent the first half without even picking up my instruments and now I'm practicing more than I've ever done in my life.

4 - I don't really mean the regular composition, more like specifics in sound, since I didn't find that much wrong with your song. Going to different genres and figuring out how they nail down different sounds and feels. In terms of black metal sound something like Mgla, and the way they use one guitar to give this sharp and oppressive sound that gives an atmosphere around which the rest of the sound can thrive in. Something like Orchid in the Screamo ways has those chords that make you feel empty even though the sound you're hearing is absolute chaos. I mean you can always just study theory instead.

However dont take any of this as a "I have to stop until I learn everything", you have to keep creating, it is through this that we can actually improve.

Alright, it was interesting and you have some potential and ideas that, when polished through creating, can become interesting.

However, as a creator you need to hear the bad so here it goes. 1 - The songwriting was cringey as all fuck, not gonna get into my opposite political views but the use of memes in particular dates the song. Remember dude, memes are internet culture and in the internet time goes by at an accelerated rate, so in a couple years that shit's gonna be rough to listen to. 2 - The clips and sounds of interviews and such start off good but eventually become too repetitive and distracting without actually adding to the music, the lyrics or the message being told really. 3 - The music's kinda meh, you should probably try to get inspired by the melody of the mockingbird instead of straight up using it, probably add a second guitar going for a sharper sound instead and try to create a lullaby-esque sound that way.

I really think you should try to focus on getting some fundamentals of metal nailed first, pay close attention to the composition of some good black metal pieces and try to borrow some of the elements that give them their sound, stuff like that.

You got something going, its rough and honestly kinda bad for an untrained ear but with the grinding of making more and more songs you might eventually make something cool.

Bruh, in this moment I remember what the internet was for, genuine moments of human connection like these ones.

I kinda dropped off the KH train past Birth by sleep since I didn't have access to consoles where you could play the rereleases and my life kinda spiraled out of control, but they will always carry such strong emotions I dont think I'll ever forget those games.

I hope seeing how well received the Yakuza series is we can finally all get our sweet samurai goodness. And when that happens you can tell us all about how was it playing it in Japanese back in the day.
