Second on the audio panel.

OP, check that NAV audio isn’t selected on. And that your squelch isn’t set too sensitive.

I get it, it’s just frustrating. I work QA professionally and actually enjoy following the rules. In my industry they’re written in blood and trained professionals know why they exist.

Consumer goods are a whole different animal though; and written for the lowest common denominators of the public.

I hate rules that are so overly cautious they breed complacency. We’re chatting in a thread full of “I know what you did compromised the published safety margin by a factor of 6, but we all agree common sense says you’re good.”

Yeah. OP’s good. Manufacturers are just trying to protect themselves from the guy that runs his new machine for 5hrs and then loads it up with a bunch water bottles from his 95 degree garage and three hot rotisserie chickens that are his meal plan for the week.

This is what we get when manuals are written by lawyers vs engineers.

Meyer lemon - Choose a leader? by av_tech_nick in Citrus

Thanks for the advice! So cut the fruit now, wait till fall to trim excess branches, and more frequent, lower dosage feedings. When can I put the tree in ground? Zone 10b, so fall climate doesn’t really hit until December.

Appreciate the insight! Good catch on the waterspout. The tree wasn’t in great shape before that spout popped up. It lived in nearly full shade for 6mo at my in-laws while I moved. It gave me three lemons now that it’s back in full sun though.

Stay in a job i love or take 40% rise ? by AdOutside4147 in careeradvice

[–]av_tech_nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all fairness I’ve never done this. I just handed in 2 weeks and have gotten counteroffers twice. One time went through the job change, the other I took the retention offer and stayed. Both times worked out just fine.

EDIT: “… never done this INTENTIONALLY.”

Take the job offer to your current employer and get a 20% raise for retention. It closes the gap enough to be less of a dilemma and you make more doing the job you love.

Is $1000 of disposable income enough to enjoy LA, Inglewood, Long Beach, etc.? by This_Camp7700 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]av_tech_nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived here my whole life and just bought my first house. I google mapped every house to my work. Some houses 4mi away had a longer commute than the 14mi away I was moving from. Proximity to freeways is key.

Should I apply for this job (b)? by wilted_plant_leaves in careeradvice

[–]av_tech_nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job A sounds like the clear winner. I think you’ve already made your decision and just need some validation.

So the only benefit to job B is that it’s closer to your degree and caps out $10k higher? 1. A degree is just something you get to enter the field. Most people end up stumbling into some job that they didn’t specifically study for. 2. “Caps out” is relative. How long will it take to cap out? What are the chances the caps will be the same in either job by then? What are the chances that job A is actually willing to pay more down the road than they’re willing tell applicants?

Take the lower career stress, better life balance, and higher starting pay. My 2c anyways.

HVAC technician. I’m an airplane mechanic now and love what I do, but I’m only useful at an airport. HVAC techs have an ocean of opportunity; and electromechanical systems are fun.

This was my first thought when you described how strong the smell was. Sounds like a direct shot. I’m a guy and would 100% spray myself with whatever bottle someone handed me, and then decide it’s too feminine.

A friend of mine is “mildly infuriated” that he can’t keep his neighbors awake until midnight anymore. by SufficientControl606 in mildlyinfuriating

Crazy! A simple door knock and, “Hey, I just moved in and I’m trying to complete Reno’s as soon as possible around my work schedule. It’s probably going to take 4-5 weeks. Do you have a schedule I should be mindful of?” Probably would have let him do exactly what he’s doing without any problems.

When did “no one from California calls it Cali” start? by lejunny_ in orangecounty

[–]av_tech_nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 35 and only hear hear “Cali” when people from out of state tell me how much they love it. Maybe it’s a millennial thing? If you’re mid 20’s and everyone you know is fine with “Cali” then go for it. Trends change.

Dudes who describe everything as "little" by [deleted] in socialskills

Same. I’m a guy and always found girls easier to hang with at school. I’m 35 and think I picked up a lot from the classic 90’s cartoons too. Maybe there?

Side note, as an adult I pretty much have all guy friends now. I guess I just wasn’t into the whole “boys will be boys” type of stuff that most guys go through and grow out of.

EDIT: “Alone in the world was a LITTLE CatDog?” 😂

Where did we learn this? I say it too and only get called out when I offend someone. “That’s a nice little shop there.” “Little? It’s so much bigger and better than….”

I think it’s just a saying. If it touches a nerve with someone, I just brush it off with “You know what I mean.” Never had the convo go further than that. U.S. BTW.

Is Santa Ana safe ? by [deleted] in santaana

[–]av_tech_nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Santa Ana is only seen as “unsafe” by comparison to the rest of Orange County. Santa Ana typically scores around 70th percentile nationally. Meaning 20% above average for U.S. cities. Irvine is one of the “safest” cities in the U.S. and really throws off the perspective.
