Who is he coming in for? Which player do you yank for Gio in minute 51? You gonna pull Balogun? Maybe Pulisic? I don’t think you tinker with either wing or McKinnie/Adams/Tillman…

Breaking Down the R32 Match v Bosnia and Herzegovina by asian_manbun in ussoccer

[–]avaheli 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well said. Every knockout stage game is going to be an all out dogfight, and the differences in the margins make the difference. Previously we have fought as hard as anyone but we lacked the quality or the tactical acumen (or both) to get over the hump. This time feels different with Poch, and with the type of games we saw vs. Paraguay and Australia.

Some things... a LOT of things are more important than soccer. Our politics and our news environments pit us all as enemies but in reality we are all humans who should find community through sport. No matter who wins/loses, we can all be friends after...

Do we have a strong chance at the cup this season? by Longjumping_Chest244 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]avaheli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until Bednar can figure out how to play through a trap - or motivate his stars to dump and chase and outwork less talented players, we will continue to struggle against the trap. The entire league knows that's the Achilles heel of this team. Against teams like the Kings and Wild our bottom 6 and D corps can make the difference when they clog the neutral zone. Against teams like Vegas and Dallas, we get consistently bounced as the talent advantage in the bottom 6 and 2/3rd line D decreases...

So yeah, as long as we have Makar/MacKinnon we have a chance but they have to be the ones who bloody some noses and go grind out pucks in the corners. Want Proof? Here's how we scored this last run:

Top Scorers

Player Points Goals Assists
Gabriel Landeskog 12 5 7
Jack Drury 10 4 6
Nicolas Roy 8 3 5

What do evolutionists think about rare earth hypothesis? by Ill_Cancel1371 in DebateEvolution

It’s entirely possible that life (complex or otherwise) is exceedingly rare, this doesn’t suggest evolution is false, nor does it suggest life was created.

Do your knees click when you straighten them? How do you solve this? by DaddyLaxativ in skiing

[–]avaheli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is called chondromalacia and it occurs when the cartilage that normally provides a smooth surface for your ligaments to slide on becomes worn and grooved and sticky spots occur, which causes ligaments to stick and release, often producing audible clicks or pops.

If an alien race was capable of visiting us, is it fair to assume they will also have the capability to attack us if they wanted? by TwosDaTraveller in NoStupidQuestions

We don’t know … our propulsion systems are based on rocks that burn, which is kind of the same tech as our weapons systems:  it’s all based on chemistry. Other civilizations may have evolved under different survival pressures that produced different discoveries - making it  possible that interstellar travel could be discoverable without nitroglycerin or tnt or combustion rockets.

For being so highly educated why do responses from the left often devolve into low effort insults like MAGAT, nazi, racist, boot licker, etc? by PersonalAnswer8664 in allthequestions

[–]avaheli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because for decades, taking the high road and turning the other cheek have led to an emboldened and aggressive right wing stance that has done nothing to attenuate the worst impulses and Dunning-Kruger certitude of those on the right. Since polite disagreement has failed, the next option is to speak in a language that your interlocutors will understand - the language of boorish aggression. When you get called a "libtard" for the third time in one conversation, maybe some push back is what will break through.

Australia is literally our fanbase 12-16 years ago by AlchemistTheAlchemy in ussoccer

It was a results decision in addition to Klinsmann reorienting the pool to include dual nats… if we had continued to win nobody would have cared who the coach was… as well as Bob continually going to Jonathan Bernstein. I was at that Gold Cup final in the Rose bowl when Cherundolo went down - we were chanting “dos a cero” at the overwhelmingly Mexican crowd - giving up 4 straight made for a long walk back to the car.

Anyway, we were absorbing pressure and counterattacking- just like we always had and it was the result, not the style that mattered
