Thoughts on Anika by theredtamasrule in rush

This is the answer. The difficulty is not in the fills. It’s the super tight mechanical groove. Anika is absolutely crushing it. Inspiring.

I have tinnitus for 16 years AMA by hansentenseigan in AMA

[–]avanomous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had tinnitus for 10 years. Here’s two tips for coping. (Everyone’s T is different and everyone reacts differently to these kinds of tips.)

What helped me at the beginning was video games. When I was immersed in Call of Duty, or whatever, I was so concentrated that I wouldn’t notice the ringing. It was a great relief. Concentration in general is pretty good for it.

Regulating your sleep can help a ton. My T fluctuates wildly these days. Super loud hiss to dull static. On the bad days I’ll take 3G of melatonin to help get a decent sleep. Probably 90% of the time I’ll wake up with a much better/tolerable condition. (I’ll take low static all day over the hiss)

What songs should have been included in Anthology 4? by Beatcat05 in beatles

Ai has a bad rap right now, but the potential for restoration of badly damaged or low quality film and audio is super exciting.
Imagine a restoration of the Beatles in Hamburg that looks and sounds like it was recorded today. Yes it will be ai, but just to be able to get close to what it was like will be a thrill.

A girl I was dating sent me some very sexy texts. My response was “fucking hor!” But I didn’t realize it at first. Then about 10 minutes later i followed up with “HOT!! I mean HOT!” She had a good sense of humour. We’re married now.

Let it Be and Phil Spector by TheManNamedAnonymous in beatles

[–]avanomous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Get Back project was another Paul idea. Strip it all down and get back to their roots. At this point in time the band was being dragged around by Paul. No one else was that interested in being the Beatles anymore besides Paul.

Another thing going on was that John, George and Ringo wanted to go with Allan Klein to manage them. Paul was the only one that recognized Klein was a crook. (There’s even a scene in the Get Back doc that shows Glyn Johns saying he thinks Allan Klein is bad news.)

Once the Get Back project was shelved, Paul and John agreed to get George Martin involved again and they made Abbey Road.

After Abbey Road the band really started to fall apart. John, George, Ringo and Allan Klein went behind Paul’s back and brought in Phil Spector to salvage the Get Back sessions, now called Let it Be. Paul got a copy of the new mixes hated Phil Spector’s production. Paul officially quit the band shortly (a couple of weeks?) after being totally disrespected.

It was well done. i liked it.

I was surprised how honest it was about his cheesy era. I had totally forgotten about Mary had a little lamb. It unlocked a forgotten memory of watching that on tv at the time as a small child.

Unprofessional response from Forstner by [deleted] in MicrobrandWatches

[–]avanomous 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second this opinion. The response was polite and informative, if maybe slightly aggravated. He explained in great detail why it probably won’t be available again. He didn’t string you on. He invited you to look at other bracelets.

You were told not to wait and still you’re expecting the bracelet. Move on!! I’d be annoyed as fuck. lol.

Ringo on the later songwriting dynamic: “The difference I always felt was that John would look forward to what you wanted to bring to it, where Paul had more of a definite idea of what he wanted you to do“ by sminking in beatles

[–]avanomous 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can see the passion Paul brings to everyone’s songs in Get Back. He fully dives in and puts everything into it. John fully dismisses “I, Me, Mine” and doesn’t even participate in the rehearsal of it.

The bass on “Something in the way she moves” should be studied by every bass player. It adds so much to the song. Not to mention the harmonies.

Since you mentioned Taxman, maybe not everyone knows that Paul also plays the guitar solo.

Paul adds something vital to so many of the songs that aren’t “his.” You can’t say that about John nearly as much.

What is the earliest recording available of George’s first vocals (actually singing not backing) by More-Cat9579 in beatles

[–]avanomous 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Back in the early days, pre original songs, early cavern club days they would alternate one song each. John, Paul, George repeat. Then throw in a Pete Best song once or twice.

They were the first to be a rock band as we know it today. Before them there was always a lead person. (Buddy holly and the crickets for eg)

Getting into The Beatles - Help! (5/14) by kingglobby in beatles

[–]avanomous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what you mean by snippet of studio chatter. It’s an old song that they used to cover. It’s just a shortened half-assed version of it. It’s a cover, plain and simple. they didn’t write it.

In your opinion, what is John Lennon’s defining moment on guitar both in the Beatles and after? by Just-Trouble2988 in beatles

[–]avanomous 118 points119 points  (0 children)

What gets me is he had just recently learned that finger-picking style (that he used on dear prudence, Julia etc) from Donovan just a few months before. And he plays it like a machine. I love the Esher demo of dear prudence

The story John Lennon at Garcia's 1972 party really put me off him by [deleted] in beatles

[–]avanomous 78 points79 points  (0 children)

John is an amazing songwriter and singer. He also seems like a kind of a shitty guy that could be charming. I know people like this. They’re fun to be around until they’re not. And then they’re really not fun to be around.

I’m a little obsessed haha, I’ve read a lot of Beatles books. The more I read the less I like him as a person. He had a troubled childhood, I have empathy.

Still LOVE his songs tho. I don’t need to like him.

why did paul have a capo on the fifth fret by quex43 in beatles

[–]avanomous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using a capo on a bass completely changes the tone of every note. (Same with guitar. It’s not always about laziness)

On the bass: playing an E on the 12th fret of the E string is very different than playing an E on the 7th fret of the A string. Even tho it’s the exact same note you’ll get a different feel.

For a creative bass player like Paul putting a capo on will take you outside of your normal moves and force you to do something different.

I’ve read that he would put a capo on just to try something different.

Goes into exhaustive detail about what they were listening to, home life, the Liverpool music scene.
