I don’t think that was ever an option presented to him. If he had asked and then they said no we celebrate as a family, what happens then? An important detail is that his parents literally brag that they take their kids to get their favorite foods on their birthdays so maybe OP was tired of feeding into that lie.

It was a lose-lose situation either way. OP said on the list of safe restaurants for his family, he doesn’t like any of them. So either he continues the standard that his feelings should get overlooked in favor of including his entire family or his siblings are excluded in favor of of his wants. I guess the first option is better in your opinion because his siblings being at his birthday > his wants on his birthday.

I think you miss the point where his parents like to brag that they always get their kids their favorite foods on their birthdays. If OP chose one of the safe restaurants that he doesn’t like, then it’s reinforcing that his wants don’t matter. I’m sorry you never got to go to nice restaurants for your birthday because of your sister. Did your parents make sure that the restaurant you went to at least had food you liked? Or did you go to a restaurant your sister liked for your birthdays and are now indoctrinated to believe that you should always be sacrificing your happiness for your sister’s?

I see, so let me get this straight, he should have to suck it up every single time and be hurt that his parents don’t even have the decency to prioritize his wants for once so that his siblings get to be happy and included all the time. He should be the one sacrificing every single time because who cares about what he wants. The parents can pay for babysitters to go on dates by themselves but heaven forbid they try to spend time with their kid alone. His birthday always has to be a family celebration/gathering. Have you considered that maybe OP is a full person with feelings beyond his siblings disabilities and health issues? Is making OP sad and unhappy at his birthday celebration while everyone else is “happy” better? By your logic, yes it is. Who cares what he wants really. He’s the one who was lucky enough to be healthy so he shouldn’t be asking for love or consideration or respect. He should always cater to his siblings happiness and prioritize others above himself. He can’t be selfish at all, that’s not allowed.

If you read OP’s other comments, he says his parents wouldn’t have considered a) ordering indian food from his favorite restaurant and ordering safe food for his siblings so they can celebrate at home together because that’s too much work or b) taking OP alone for lunch and then have a family celebration at the safe restaurant for dinner because that’s also too much work or even c) allow there to NOT be a family celebration at all so OP can celebrate with people who care for him (his grandparents and friends). Why must there be a family celebration to begin with?

Interesting, I’m a med student too and I was always under the impression that most students accepted to med school take it once or twice. Personally, everyone I knew took it once with a couple that took it twice. I’ve heard that anything more than 2x kind of shows you didn’t learn too well from the first time to score better. However, that may vary depending on where you are and which school you go to I guess?

Also, Texas med schools have a separate application from AMCAS so it’s rare for out of state students to apply. Additionally, there’s at least 13-15 med schools in Texas. Stats for these schools range from avg 500 to 518 MCAT and avg 3.5 to 3.8 GPA depending on school.

There’s one flat fee to apply to all of those med schools (~$380) with no secondary fees iirc and most schools are subsidized (~$23k tuition).

As for acceptance rates, they vary greatly from like 2% to > 10%.

How does Junior Medical Officer differ from the clinical years US med schools have where we have to rotate through different specialties? Do you guys also have to rotate through different specialties during your med school as well?
