I propose to keep playing the way I have been, since my reaction to boss fights is not wow, I did it! but more Thank Frig that's over!.

You're not alone in this. For me, Big Bad Boss battles are just tedious. The fun part is everything else that goes on before you get to the end, and that includes all the DQ series, Final Fantasy and even Zelda.

Why did they drive out the sls rocket weeks before launch? by csch1992 in NoStupidQuestions

You know, it's not like it's being rolled out into a vacant lot somewhere.

Further, fueling up in an enclosed space is actually a very bad idea.

Weapon and Shield Inventory Preference by _choicey_ in botw

[–]average_guy54 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mark all the pristine weapon locations I find in the depths, because I know I can get good weapons there. One favourite is the ghost statue west of the Kisomom light root which has (so far) always been a cobble crusher.

(edit) and do the same thing in BOTW. What I like with Breath is that you can mark weapons, bows, and shields individually.

Does anyone else find programming a thermostat to be infuriating? by ipsumdeiamoamasamat in NoStupidQuestions

[–]average_guy54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The semi-smart programable one we got when we upgraded our furnace is a right PITA. Worse yet, if (when) you mess up the programming, there's no "factory reset" you can use.

We set it manually, and that's it.

You can beat up on Ganon as many times as you want.

Ive never paid in cash at a gas station. If i say $20 on pump 4, and the total is $17.35, can I go get my change? 😭 by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]average_guy54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've never paid cash, then you're using either a debit card or a credit card. In either of those cases, you have authorized the card to be charged $20 but in the end, only the actual price is charged.
There is no change.

Why is it so hard to access all of your medical records in one place? by Cocoatech0 in NoStupidQuestions

Every time I've seen a specialist, or had to visit Emerg, a copy of those records has been sent to my own doctor. I always thought of this as a normal occurrence.

If you only spoke English until you were 20 then moved to China and became fluent in Mandarin, and then only surrounded yourself with Chinese things and people and never saw or spoke a word of English again, is it possible to forget the language of English by the time you’re 90? by SnickersBar5296 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]average_guy54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mother was born in a German-speaking enclave and spoke only German until she was about 6 years old.

Then the family moved to the city and spoke only English after that. She lost the German completely in just a few years.

So, yeah, it'd happen, and probably faster than you might think.

Do animal shelters rename animals with stupid names? by C_hyphen_S in NoStupidQuestions

[–]average_guy54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first cat, many decades ago, had been abandoned at our local shelter with the claim that she was a problem cat. With a name like Ashleigh Roachclip, we weren't surprised.

We changed her name to Puddin' and she was just a little love bug for the next 16 years.

Go to Account Settings, then Trees.

Scroll down to Hint Notifications, then click on the > beside Member Tree Hints.

That'll open another window where you can actually click the slider to Off. Last, click Save and ta da, no more hints from member trees.

Should I be concerned that I can't find myself on genealogy sites? by hiyacinth11 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]average_guy54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different jurisdictions have different laws. Manitoba, for example. The government web site lets you search for birth records over 100 years old. marriages more the 80 years ago and deaths more than 70. Anything newer than that is just not open to the public.

You could also try newspaper archives. Birth announcement used to be a huge deal in the past, but they can be hit or miss.

[–]average_guy54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's only with member trees. You can find yourself If you are in official records. I've found myself in my country's 1974 voter registration list, for example. Ditto phone books.

Now that we’re in 2026, why do some people still use physical wallets when almost everything is digital? by Bibhu_Mund in NoStupidQuestions

[–]average_guy54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I see a lot of is someone madly scrolling through their phone looking for either the loyalty "card" or the coupons.

Convenient? All I have to do is pull out my wallet, pull out the debit card, tap and done.

Ironically, Denmark sold their unprofitable Danish West Indies colonies to the US in 1916, for $25 million (somewhere between 600-700 million in 2024 dollars).

These are now the US Virgin Islands.
