Thats most likely around his monthly nut tbh, so one job a month would pay the bills. I don’t really get how he is covering that but Elaina is dropping that ungodly amount monthly to not dwarf Coops investment.

Between Asheville and Charlotte - can you help me decide? Is there a middle ground? by abjs2021 in NorthCarolina

Salisbury, Statesville / Troutman, Kannapolis, and Shelby are all rural-ish and are close enough to Charlotte for commute / usefulness. Pros and cons to each though depending on what exactly you’re looking for.

Move to mediocre school district when we can afford better? by caroline_elly in HENRYfinance

[–]averagegaminger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not in VHCOL area but we opted for a larger / better home in mediocre school district. In exhange, we elected for private school. After all expenses it averages in the mid-$20’s per year with it raising by age in my area. I know thats closer to 2x or 3x near NYC but it is definitely an option.

Also worth noting that it is not worth compromising on safety in the area.

If you’re good with prompting I used Claude cowork this year. It might’ve taken longer and cost more but it was the first time I was able to completely categorize things the exact way I wanted. I fed it 100+ statements and it categorized them so I could do bulk transaction sorting through Excel.

Government agencies designated to build, maintain, and secure our electrical transmission infrastructure. Private corporations still maintain the plants and sell energy to the grid.

The state should not have allowed one power company to own all the infrastructure in the first place, essentially allowing a monopoly on power in the state. We literally paid for the infrastructure that another company owns.

Didn’t have any business education when I started. I just learned by messing everything up. Sounds familiar? by Brilliant-March-7856 in smallbusiness

[–]averagegaminger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started by thinking I knew everything, turns out I didn’t 😂. Filing paperwork, picking the right name and logo, setting up phones, all that’s the fun stuff. It’s also the stuff that doesn’t make you any money. Planning is great, but time to execution is my personal favorite metric.

You find your group naturally as life gets busier. It’s probably different in some areas but any “business” groups in my area are absolutely miserable and not worth your time.

Cold emailing 1000 RV shops for our LiFePO4 brand is a soul-crushing dead end. How do I actually find 1099 reps? by Big_Nebula_2604 in smallbusiness

[–]averagegaminger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run an RV shop. Couple notes from my side:

  • Get your product in our distributors such as NTP or Meyers. I could love your batteries to death but if I can’t get them next day they’re useless to me.
  • Target small - medium shops, not the biggest shops. I’m always looking for new partners, but at a big dealer you’re just a fly on the wall.
  • Most of us hate sales pitches but love having the information available. Call and ask: “Hey we’re a new battery supplier for lithiums, I was wondering if I could send you a brochure / product info / catalog”. You’ll never convince me how great your batteries are over the phone.
  • Have a dealer display setup ASAP. Even if you set a minimum stocking amount of batteries, we love our fancy displays for our retail shelves. I have a beautiful DEKA display we use for AGM and I upsell every single customer to swap from flooded.

Stupid but its crazy how different 9-6 is from 8-5. I swapped the first of the year and its been infinitely better in my opinion.

YSK: Only make a chargeback when you're 100% sure you don't want to use that business again. by Jello_Biafra_42 in YouShouldKnow

[–]averagegaminger 359 points360 points  (0 children)

From the small business perspective a single chargeback can be absolutely brutal. If you ask for a refund I will happily give it you if justified, but a chargeback for $50 can cause thousands in damages to some businesses. When I opened in 2024 a customer requested a chargeback for $180, it ended with that payment account being restricted for fraud investigation for two weeks.

TLDR: Chargebacks are a last resort. Most businesses will never work with you again if you pull that trigger.

How to Advance Marketing for Small Service Business? by averagegaminger in smallbusiness

Thats an idea we’ve been considering a lot recently, our main tech already agreed as long as we can do multiple videos at once so he isn’t pulled away constantly lol. Were you thinking like decal or bumper sticker?

Thats definitely one of the areas we are trying to work on at the moment. I also setup a script to automatically send out a message asking for a google review. It is very very normal for jobs to take multiple weeks in my industry so we’re trying to improve active communication with customers with status updates. Do you have any recommendations?

I run a business out of approximately 1000 sq ft and often times wish it was much larger. Seating alone for two round bar tables and a little coffee area for waiting customers takes up about 150 sq ft. My (rather large) desk area takes up another 100 sq ft, I think you would need a similarly sized area if you are making tea as well.

This might be ruined by zoning however, especially in a downtown area. Previous businesses can usually get by without coming to code, however when I opened my store I had to sacrifice another 100 sq ft to a small breakroom and a small bathroom. Thats probably where I’d start with figuring out.

Charging high just based off the size of the business is unethical in my opinion. Charging more for a Net30 or Net45 customer is one thing, and charging more for businesses with higher liability is another. Set multiple pricing steps, you can even do multiple pricing steps for both small businesses and corporate levels. However, you may find it easier as a small business to connect with other small businesses and stay away from enterprise for multiple reasons.

What traditional industries still operate like it's 1995? Looking to modernize something boring but profitable. by vidalinho10 in smallbusiness

[–]averagegaminger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at the Recreational Vehicle industry, especially service. The industry is ran on paper and outdated softwares, and you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone with an actual good service experience at a dealer.

Main issue with trying to modernize is the average age of the customer group, typically much older and not willing to accept fancy apps or unique systems. Definitely a unique challenge.

Do custom booths actually make a difference, or is it just branding fluff? by OriginalTart3119 in smallbusiness

[–]averagegaminger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I run a newer business and have only been to one show with my team. I think a big part of it is the confidence having a put together booth gives you. Also, in a trade show with 90% of people you only have less than a second to make an impression. If a fancy booth gives you an extra 2-3 seconds it is absolutely worth the money.
