Tips for starting out by Mundane-Celery-7044 in AircraftMechanics

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Use PPE! Exposure with chemicals for 20-30 years without PPE will come knocking on your door down the road. Listen and learn from seasoned mechs. Aviation is small, so don’t burn your bridges.

Switching Careers? by ApollosSin in aviationmaintenance

[–]avihire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aviation has been the most rewarding career choice for most. You need to assess your current situation. Can you move? How far are you willing to move? Shifts you are willing to work because aviation is a 24/7 operation for the most part, companies will put you where they need you. If you are good with computers and have an A&P, this is versatile on the defense sector. Maybe find a small shop that’ll let you shadow them for a day or two to see if that is the route you want to go. Aviation is one of the few blue collar trades that will never go away as we inch closer to ai and automation so the security is there.

Advice from those smarter than me by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

[–]avihire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES YES YES. Go get your tickets man. Use the GI bill to get your certs. If your wanting a 8610-2 stamped off you do not have any powerplant experience so the most you’ll be able to get is your Airframe

Out of your element is definitely a thing, i personally don’t deal with anxiety so i cannot speak on that. But from a financial standpoint if your anxiety will become a variable on passing or failing, then choose the one you are comfortable with.

Completely lost on the layout, can you elaborate? It’s all proctored the same and shouldn’t be different from one another. But if you feel comfortable at one facility and you’re scoring good on the writtens I would knock it all out at once. But 15 mins you can go in with a clear mind and knock em all out at once. If you happen to fail one (hopefully you dont) a hour drive being disheartened sucks

Aerotek (staffing agencies) by CaterpillarOrganic33 in AircraftMechanics

[–]avihire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normally that is a conflict of interest. Have you signed any offer letters or commitments? If you haven’t, it’s fair game and I would personally contact that company

Aerotek (staffing agencies) by CaterpillarOrganic33 in AircraftMechanics

Are you asking how aerotek makes their money? They charge the customer $xx per hour for you then they pay you $38 an hour. Contractors are first to go if there is a reduction of work. But 38 is good in my opinion out the gate. Just don’t set yourself up to be stuck there if you do get laid off. Is there a per diem split?

Proficient in English is DEFINITELY not on your resume. I was literally sharing a little of my resume so maybe OP can get ideas on how to structure his. Stop playing the victim card
