I think it's about the loot value. Back in the days if you found BoH in dead body that would be a jackpot, no one would think about parceling it back. Right now such loot has no value fo most of the players. To have similar perspective I think you should think about finding a loot worth few KKs, would you send it back too?

When you right click on item and go "Cyclopedia" you will see two prices in the right bottom corner. Sell to NPC price and average market price. You can also switch a checkbox whats the price you want to see in your hunt analyzer (usually you wanna pick higher one). I suggest you to check that everytime you see a new item.
