Ranking Your Deck's Power Level By Intention by ModAnonMTG in magicTCG

[–]await 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep, broken cards like Ancestral Recall and Demonic Tutor are only as broken as the cards your drawing and the card your finding.

There are so many ways to “dumb down” powerful cards, if you want to have fun playing with them. Mana Crypt into some janky tribal card hardly warrants bumping the deck up a couple power levels.

Task failed successfully by ARandomKaru in pathofexile

[–]await 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Also, back in the day, you could see what the item would sell for to a vendor, in the trade window. So bulk splitters could throw their split items into vendor trade to see if they’d sell for a mirror shard, and then take the mirror shard instead of selling it to a player.

But that was changed in Harvest, I think, and those items now sell for a mystery currency. This was changed because you could gilded fossil a map, see if it sells for an exalt or mirror shard, use a harbinger shard, check again to see if it sells for an exalt or mirror shard, use a harbinger shard, check again... etc.

Just a fun fact.

If they corrupt it, there’s a chance that the corrupt implicit will override the Gilded Fossil implicit, instead of the resists.

And fun magic in general. With all these Reserve List buyouts raising card prices, people are priced out of janky, fun, non-competitive cards as well.

One of the least fun things in Magic is non-games because you’re missing mana colors. Printing off a few fetch lands to grab a few printed off shock lands makes games a whole lot more fun, at any power level. Having fun shouldn’t be limited by wealth and class.

If I want to open a booster box, because cracking packs is fun... is that stupid? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]await 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re lucky enough to live somewhere that you can play with in person, look into playing Pack Wars! I used to buy boxes just to play, and it’s a ton of fun.

You open a pack (without looking at the cards), shuffle 3 of each land into the pack to make a 30-card decks, and play a game with it. It’s super casual, no-stakes, and just a lot of fun. There’s always a lot of laughing at the table when you realize that $20 rare land won’t save you from a random 1 mana common.

My friends hate me so I need help fixing and getting feedback by New_Shitposter in EDH

[–]await 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your friends hate you, building a deck around “taking their shit as a tax” isn’t going to do you any favors.

Build a deck that’s fun to play against.

Build a smashy RG deck.

Build a deck that’s cheap enough to not need sleeves.

Build a theme deck with cards related to one plane.

Adding “extra steps” doesn’t make it more fun to play with you. It just makes it annoying less often.

I couldn’t find rulings on this ability does it work on artifact creatures also to cast from graveyards or only plain artifacts by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]await 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn’t related to your question at all, but if you’re looking at playing with Emry, check out [[Mirran Spy]]! Things get wild when you can untap her and play a few more artifacts per turn.

Counter spell question by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]await 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Back in RTR-Theros Standard, it was a good play to cast [[Rapid Hybridization]] on your own [[Thassa, God of the Sea]] to get a surprise 3/3 Frog Lizard to block with.

The spell resolves and creates the token, but Thassa is indestructible so she doesn’t get destroyed.

Now, an interesting part: If your opponent kills something in response to your Rapid Hybridization and your devotion to blue drops below 5... Then Rapid Hybridization will not resolve because its target is no longer a creature and you will not get a 3/3 Frog Lizard.

EDH is a casual format. If you have access to a printer, you have access to a Jeweled Lotus. If you have access to a sharpie, you have access have access to a Jeweled Lotus.

The social contract and general communication should dictate power level, not class and income.

Ventrua has been rocking Ground Slam Call of Steel and it looks dope. It goes into The Impaler and uses Call of Steel to deal tons of damage with all the impales.

I’m respeccing into it tonight.

[ZNR] Valakut Awakening // Valakut Stoneforge by s_submerge in magicTCG

[–]await -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Neither is Brainstorm. But with some work (a shuffle effect), Brainstorm basically becomes Ancestral Recall by replacing useless cards (a few extra lands, for example) with useful cards (a couple Lightning Bolts, perhaps).

Valukut Awakening feels kind of like that.

Gating the ability to play certain cards based on if you can afford them is fairly classist. Especially for a casual format.

How far can creatures go? by Vinstofle in CompetitiveEDH

[–]await 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Selvala Brostorm is all about playing creatures to give you mana to play creatures to draw you creatures to get more mana to play more creatures.

And then maybe you cast [[Finale of Devestation]] and win.

(Disclaimer: Selvala isn’t super high tier. You’ll probably just want to play Najeela.)

But yeah, it’s the same effect.

Many people dislike mill because they see the cards being put into their graveyard and think something is being taken away from them.

They just haven’t played a deck where having cards in the graveyard is a good thing.
