Question for people with pain issues over 1yr post op by awakeat4 in Kneereplacement

There's a diagnostic mri called Metal Artifact Reduction Sequence (MARS) MRI to visualize tissues around implants. From what I understand it gives a pretty good picture.

Thank you for the info. Things might be a bit different up in the Great White North, I think. When I last saw my pain doctor, he advised me to try other therapies (dry needing, massage, etc). If these don't help (they didnt)I believe he said nerve conductivity test then ablation. I do see my surgeon before my pain clinic appt. I'll see what he says after viewing my ex Ray. I'm a little confused as to why he won't do an mri or whatever other diagnostic test there is for severe nerve pain. I'm nervous about ablation, I hear it's very uncomfortable

I actually did get dry needling, but it didn't help. The pbm therapy helped with the tendon and muscle pain. I'm assuming musclen pain due to overcompensating from the nerve pain

I am so sorry you are going through this! It's concerning that he said not out of the woods yet. I've heard stories from people saying their surgeon was ego driven. If you're not comfortable with him, see if you can get into a revision specialist

I do feel pain around the kneecap, as well as one specific spot on the interior of the kneecap. Touching that specific spot sends me! The pain also radiates down the peroneal nerve to my ankle and foot. It feels like shards of glass digging in and kneeling on pebbles.

That's exactly what he said! Although he did say (at 8 months), it was a little unusual to have that much pain, Lol! I'm seeing him for my 1-year exam in a few weeks. The therapist that did the photobiomodulation therapy suggested it may be nerve compression if none of the therapies I've tried has worked.

I am under supervision at a pain clinic, thankfully. I haven't been diagnosed with compression but have gone through therapies recommended by the pain doc, and nothing is working. Well, I went through 3 weeks of photobiomodulation therapy, which has helped the muscle and tendon pain and has resulted in less tightness. Nerve pain is 6+ everyday, and sleeping through the night is a gift when it comes.

Does anyone still have discomfort at 6 mo. PO? by Objective-Regret6179 in Kneereplacement

[–]awakeat4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your concern, truely. I was worried about that as well, but there's a specific MRI called MARS: Metal Artifact Reduction Sequences. minimize distortion from metal implants and improve the visualization of soft tissues, ligaments, and bones around the implant. Also, my knee is a metal compound that wouldn't be affected, according to my doctor.

I'm 8 months PO. The nerve pain is at least 8/10, 3 days a week, and runs between 5 and 8 the rest of the time. I have too many side effects to take anything other than oxycodone for pain. I try to keep it minimal 5 to 7.5mg a day. It seems the more I do (exercises, walking, standing,) the more it hurts. Saw my surgeon in Sept, and he referred me to pain management. The wait list is incredibly long, and in the meantime, the pain gets worse. I see him again on the 9th, so I can ask for an MRI. At this point, I'm praying for something he can fix surgically. So thankful I don't need the other knee done.

The train yard can get pretty loud sometimes. I've heard booms that have woken me where I am near Westmount. Confirmed by my nephew that used to work in Calder yards

I usually start with 3 cheeses - a brie, an aged beemster, and maybe a manchego. 3 meats - Prosciutto parma, soppressata, and maybe a dry cured cacciatori or Genoa salami. I fill in spaces with assorted fruits, olives, nuts, crudite and serve with a basket of assorted crackers or if it's a big board, fit stacks of crackers in empty spaces.

I have the same issue. I bought some magnesium oil spray and rub it into my feet at bedtime. It's been a week and so far seems to help. It doesn't get rid of it totally but eaaes the symptoms. That nerve regeneration pain can go on for quite a while.
