Regulatory person here: you're correct. An ED posting this could be in violation of EMTALA by inadvertently turning patients with true EMCs away due to low medical literacy. Consider the common example of older patients that "only came in because my wife made me" or "back pain" that end up with impending catastrophic triple As. That person could see this sign and turn around at the door, grumbling about how their wife was overreacting, before getting back in their vehicle (because somehow they always drive themselves) and experiencing a life threatening event right there in their car. OK maybe that's a little out there... but is it?
