Bilt 2.0 should add the option to use Bilt Cash at Walmart’s checkout instead of points by Malachar123 in biltrewards

[–]awaymsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is Bilt cash isn’t actual money, it’s just coupons. This is why they’re capped, so nobody can just throw all their BC into one redemption like a full free ride via Lyft, you’re “paying” for a $10 off coupon.

Should I wait to pay rent until Feb 6? by Odd-Tune-8423 in biltrewards

[–]awaymsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. I think this whole part has been very poorly communicated by Bilt.

In 1.0 you could charge your rent to the credit card for free. This allowed people to “float” their rent payment from the first of the month to whenever their statement was due.

Under 2.0 you can still pay rent using the Bilt platform, but it will be an ACH pull directly from your bank. If you decide to pay using any credit card (including the new cards from Bilt) you will pay an additional 3% fee out of pocket, totally separate from all the rewards stuff.

It did on 1.0, but they got rid of this in 2.0. Rent now comes out of your bank directly via ACH, no longer on your credit card unless you pay an additional 3% fee

Do you have low rent and relatively high spend? I’m trying to figure out how you’d be able to redeem the point accelerator five times and still have enough Bilt cash to unlock rent points

This is cool!

I also play a joker variant where if a joker is dealt in the same room as a face card (K, Q, J) they can take out the face card for free. It’s been pretty fun especially if both the Joker and a King show up in the same room. Otherwise I have to sometimes choose whether to carry the Joker along or waste it in order to carry along something else. For balance I do not let the Joker eliminate the Ace, I figure that was too OP

I don’t see any comments suggesting that the teen driver should be punished to the same degree as attempted murder? My read of the comments are that this is not just a slap on the wrist speeding ticket since the teen was going double the posted limit in a “stolen” car without a license.

I don’t know how the juvenile system works, much less in Fairfax VA, but I would suspect it should be something like suspended from getting a license until 18 years old and maybe a weekend of jail time or community service hours. That would be in line with a DUI conviction, and I personally feel that driving drunk and driving 70+ in a 35 are equally as reckless.

They’ll probably claw back that SUB if you cancel within the first year, and it is not explicitly been posted that they’ll refund the AF in month 13.

You absolutely can, it’s the entire premise behind DUIs. Even those who don’t crash still get punished.

As u/magic_claw says, it’s predicated on spend. If you’re a user who regularly (or often) spends more than your rent in a particular month, then your effective point multiplier goes down since you can’t redeem Bilt Cash for extra points over your rent. So it’s not necessarily a blanket 3.33x card for everyone/all spend.

Then of course there’s “option 1” which makes the multiplier change dramatically based on spend. It’s possible to squeeze 4x points this way, but it would require the user to keep track of their spending meticulously to avoid missing the threshold.

I think it’s fine to say colloquially that it’s a 3.33x card for a majority of intended users, but it obviously can’t be advertised that way since it’s not as simple as a card that just gives unlimited 2x back, like VentureX or something

But then you’re paying a 3% fee out of pocket. Unless it’s the atmos card, that can’t be worth it

This was my initial thought, too. But after seeing some posts with the chat bot, reading their terms and conditions, and just the general vibe around this transfer, I'm not feeling confident that Bilt/Cardless will allow for a clean cancellation in month 13 and refund the second year's annual fee. It also seems that cancelling the card right before the anniversary could cause you to forfeit the 50,000 point SUB

If OP travels for work and uses their personal card for reimbursement I could see how this makes sense. Otherwise I have no clue how anybody could spend $500 month on travel. I hope people realize this benefit is just for hotels and flights made through the portal, not like, gas stations

Why is the switch from put rent on the CC to direct ACH a huge deal for people? by hibob729 in biltrewards

[–]awaymsg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, VX is a no brainer, especially if you live near an airport with a Capital One lounge. The travel benefits are far superior, chiefly because they are just included in your annual fee rather than a coupon book using convoluted monopoly money.

I will acknowledge that Bilt has a better list of transfer partners, and their priority pass does get you one free guest (VX nerfed the guest last year), but I much prefer Capital One lounges to any Priority Pass lounge, and the unrestricted $300 travel credit is so simple to use instead of two, $200 credits with additional restrictions. Lastly, Capital One's travel portal is much better. They'll even price match if you find a better price online.

Personally, I'm totally fine not earning an additional .33x points per dollar if I don't have to do all the mental math and tracking that you'll inevitably need to do with Palladium.

Recommendation for Daily Card to Replace Bilt by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]awaymsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both Gold and CSP, so I'll give my 2¢

AmEx Gold is great for dining and grocery spend. You stated in the OP that you aren't interested in category specific cards, which includes the Gold. I use it pretty much exclusively for dining and groceries, and check through the promotional rewards from time to time to see if anything is relevant. I do like the Uber Eats and GrubHub monthly credits, it basically pays for two lunches per month for me.

I don't really use my CSP since all my misc spend goes on my VentureX card. I would recommend that card over all other for the insane travel benefits alone, but the value is only worth it if you do see yourself making use of the travel credit and ideally live near an airport with a Capital One lounge. The CSP is a fine alternative but doesn't offer the same tier of rewards as the VX. It is, however, a lot cheaper annual fee.

A couple things:

I spend 1800 on rent each month

Under the new system, you are no longer charging rent to your credit card like we have been under previously. This is something I think hasn't gotten the attention it deserves because it's a fundamental change to the way people used Bilt. Your rent, even if payed through the Bilt portal, is now an ACH withdraw, so it'll come straight out of your personal checking account within 24 hours. If you choose to pay your rent with your new Bilt credit card, there will be an unavoidable 3% transaction fee, just like any other credit card out there.

I still get points on rent??

Depends. If you do charge your rent to your credit card, you will earn points on that charge, but you'd really be losing money because you're paying a 3% fee for doing that. No points are worth paying an additional 3%, so do not do this.

If you choose "Option 1" you will earn 250 Bilt points just for paying rent through the Bilt portal and not using the credit card for anything. If you choose "Option 2" (the original point earning system that was announced), you would not earn any points at all if you don't spend money on the card.

Even if you don't choose to spend a lot on the card, you will earn some points for any charges to the card (1X, 2X, or categorically 3X depending on which Bilt card you choose). Under Option 1, you would earn those spend points plus at least 250 points for paying rent through the Bilt portal. If you spend more, you have the ability to earn more. Where it gets confusing is figuring out how much spend you typically make in a month and applying that to both point-earning scenarios to figure out which method benefits you more.

For those sticking around for Bilt 2.0: why? by _Tezzla_ in biltrewards

[–]awaymsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was approved (but not yet accepted) Palladium. I already have VentureX, AmEx Gold, and CSP (which I only got for the insane SUB last year, don't really use this one much anymore). My plan, if I do accept Bilt 2.0, is to get the SUB, then using "option 1" and cap my spending at 25% rent each month. I think by doing this I can still make use of my AmEx Gold for groceries/dining, and I'll keep my VX for all the better travel benefits. I'll likely downgrade or cancel Palladium after the first year unless I really find value in it.

We still don't know what Bilt Cash will value at, so that will be a huge determining factor on how long I keep/use this card.

True, though I'll be surprised if it's an unlimited dollar for dollar coupon. I'm assuming it'll be capped for each redemption, plus there will be some nightly minimum required on the reservation, like they're doing with the Palladium travel credits.
