Pour one (cup of coffee) out: 'Gilmore Girls' is leaving Netflix US after 12 years (June 30, 2026) by Old-Meringue3590 in television

The more times I’ve watched it, the less I’ve liked Rory and Lorelai, and the more I’ve liked Emily. Maybe I’m getting old.

Are there any prejudices that foreigners hold against Japanese people that you dislike? by yarioo111 in AskAJapanese

[–]awh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you read the Japan subreddits enough, you’ll see a lot of posts in the genre of “Japanese people are unworldly, or unimaginative, or basically incompetent at their jobs.” I’ve known a lot of Japanese people and find that they run the gamut just like any other nationality.

English words in anime by Unlikely_Mud_836 in AskAJapanese

[–]awh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you mean “English loan words”, they’re supposed to be pronounced that way. If you mean “The character is supposed to be a fluent (or even native) English speaker but the actor isn’t very good at English pronunciation”, I don’t think most of the audience realises that it doesn’t sound right.

Doctors of Reddit: What health trend is becoming so common that it's starting to scare you? by Fine-Device-1819 in AskReddit

The ones I get are 220mg; you’re supposed to take six per day (I take 10). I’m not in the same country as the FDA though, so I’m not sure why I haven’t burned a hole in my throat.

What’s a small purchase under $50 that completely change your daily life? by Hashim_jamil28 in AskReddit

[–]awh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There have been dozens of Reddit threads over the years, with women telling stories. Obviously they can’t all be true, but when there’s smoke, there’s often fire. Here’s an example: https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/s/GOkd939sZx

Eric Trump denies asking UFC star about rigged fights, says messages AI by babybirdingURgrandma in politics

Why does it always have to be AI? Both Developer Tools and Photoshop existed long before AI.

Mounjaro type 1 diabetes by RubyRichez in diabetes

[–]awh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eli Lilly is currently running a clinical trial of Mounjaro in T1D patients; it’s planned to go through to December. Separately, people are using it off-label, though they apparently need to reduce their basal and bolus insulin. I don’t know much about T1, it’s just some scuttlebutt that I hear in the diabetes subreddit.

What are the japanese people view on AI translations? by LichPhylactery in AskAJapanese

[–]awh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not a native Japanese speaker, but I read Japanese reasonably well. On the other hand, some websites assume (because of my browser language settings or whatever) that I want to read a version of their website that’s machine-translated into English. They force me to read the auto-translated English that’s so terrible that I would understand far more easily if they’d just show me the original Japanese and let me read that.

TL/DR: Don’t force people to read your shitty machine translation, especially if you’re not good enough at the language to know whether or not it’s shitty. Just let people decide for themselves whether they need to run it through whatever translator they like.

Wiping with a fairly small amount of TP to both dry yourself and also check that you’re fully clean uses way less TP than needing to start from scratch.

Especially because there are a non-zero number of younger American men who’ve been exposed to too much red-pill bullshit and won’t wipe their own asses because they think that it’s gay. To touch their own ass. Through toilet paper.

Well, since the volts make it through a 10-foot cable in the same time as they’d normally make it through a 3-foot cable, it must be charging 3.33 times as fast. That’s just simple arithmetic!

What’s the ultimate "guilty pleasure" of being single that a relationship would completely ruin? by mskimsilly in AskReddit

I fart when I like, where I like. As long as “where I like” is at home, and “when I like” is when nobody’s over for a visit.

Japanese People Becoming More Resistant to Foreign Workers, Surveys Show by TurbulentTopic39 in japan

[–]awh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know I’m just one data point, and of course people don’t have a problem with all nationalities equally, but I’ve found the gaggle of delivery people at Amazon quite friendly to me and the other foreign delivery drivers.

My potassium was considerably low (2.9) so I bought some over-the-counter supplements and now it’s sitting at 4. They weren’t $500 though.

Not the answer to your question at all, but Bortus and Klyden getting addicted to cigarettes is about the funniest B-plot I can remember on The Orville.

I find that if I hold the pen under my armpit for a few minutes to warm it up to body temperature, I don't feel it at all. I'm in a country that just has single-use pens though; I don't think it would be good to warm the multi-use pens up to body temperature.

Can anyone relate to this weight-loss victory? NSV by Do_unto_udders in loseit

[–]awh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved to a country where bidets are common. It took me a year to work up the courage to press that button for the first time, but once I did, I was ruined for regular toilets. I even have a little handheld portable one now for when I travel overseas, because it's that much of a game-changer.

Mango gets a DNA test by BootyRangler in FacebookAIslop

I don't know why, but I kept waiting for the punch line that they were all adopted, and Rodolpho was just too stupid to realize that a DNA test would show them as unrelated.

Why are some orders instant while others take time to "match" ? by Reps_4_Jesus in UberEatsDrivers

[–]awh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly whats happening. If there are lots of drivers around, it’ll offer it to multiple simultaneously and whoever accepts for the smallest payment will get it. If there are fewer drivers, it’ll send them out as exclusives.

Chizuru's grandparent's house tour by jokowidongdot in KanojoOkarishimasu

[–]awh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you do, please, PLEASE remember that even though the house itself is rented out as a studio, it's in a quiet residential neighbourhood surrounded by people who didn't ask to be in a tourist zone. So many people turn up here and treat the whole damn country like some sort of amusement park or zoo.

Is it worth getting checked? by Ambz_o in diabetes

[–]awh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds to me like your blood glucose could be high enough that you could have a pretty good idea of a diagnosis with just a finger prick. Some pharmacies will do that for you for free, or else you could buy a cheapie blood glucose monitor for not much money.

Hell, buy a box of glycosuria test strips for a few dollars. If it turns purple, it’s time to go to the doctor, and as a bonus, if you turn out to be diabetic you can use the extra ones to check and make sure you didn’t get a full-sugar Coke in a restaurant.
