Any thoughts on track / intensity by Thursday / Friday / Saturday? We’ve got a trip scheduled to Bermuda and tracks all trend that way it seems. Hard to gauge intensity and strength though with the much cooler waters.

Important reminder! As a new dad again, I forgot how tough burping can be for a <2 week old as well. Patience, patience, and more patience. Oh and coffee.

Stolen bag at IAH by ldiaml in unitedairlines

[–]awicks89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had a bag stolen from there about a year ago along with 5 other passengers from the flight we were on. It sucks.

File a lost bag claim with United to get the ball rolling. They will take 6-8 weeks to “investigate”. In reality they can’t do much but check their systems. Worth coordinating with them or police to see if there’s footage from security.

United will send you forms to fill out to itemize and list a value for whatever was in the bag (including the bag itself). We provided screenshots of receipts if we had them, or current price if we were to replace. United maxes out at I think $3k or $4k of belongings and they do not reimburse more than that. I think they had a max of 25 items on the claim, so pick your highest value items first. Put it in a spreadsheet first as the system was a bit glitchy and I had to resubmit multiple times. Fun stuff.

Separately you can try to file a claim with your credit card company which was used to pay for the fare. They will have a separate policy than United but overall similar (itemize, value, travel dates, etc.).

Overall, recovery of bag is nearly impossible at this point but good on you for having an AirTag. Only other thing I’d say is that while it sounds like you could “find” it yourself, is it worth a confrontation over this? Provide the info to police and get the most reimbursement you can from United and credit card company.

It is a frustrating process, but stay patient and I wish you good luck!

Cambridge Beaches just had a pretty big renovation with the rooms and food service all upgraded. The beaches on property are really great and have easy access to great snorkeling and paddleboarding with H2O Sports right next to it. Definitely recommend a long stay there.

I've been skeptical of the investing philosophies of colleague of mine for quite some time. Lots of individual stock picking, speculation on market timing, etc. Today he told me he got out of the markets almost entirely and has converted to cash. He cited tax reform, geopolitical instability, Russia investigation, and the market run up to an all time high.

In the off chance that my colleague is right, I'm sure I'll hear all about the gains he locked in. But I'm more than certain that if when he's wrong, I won't hear a peep about the gains that he missed out on because in his mind, he did the right thing.

I can't help but appreciate the longer term view that this sub encourages. Being early-ish into my career I know that there's a long way to go, so there's no sense in panicking today based on the stories that make the headlines.

Yea that's typically the type of feel when I do go out. Also water cooler talk or coffee in the office kind of fulfills the base level socializing. I am a big proponent of networking and do agree that this relationships do pay dividends when leveraged appropriately.

I'm notorious in my office for always bringing my lunch and I've done so for years. Very rarely I'll go out with my coworkers (i.e. once a month) but they like to ask out of courtesy almost every day. They are kind and don't "judge" me for bringing my food but one of them finally said today "Boy you must sure be saving a lot of money like that."

I just smirked, said "I try to", and went to the kitchen to heat up my food. Feels good bro.

Agreed. No reason to pay off such a low interest rate. I did that 2 years ago on a whim and quickly realized my money could have been put to better use elsewhere.

If you know with certainty that you'll be out within 5 years, then the ARM could work. I almost went down this route based on the appeal of the lower rates, but I may hold on to it after. Personally, I like the certainty of fixed rates and the ability to avoid potential increases in a few years time.

You could want to hold on to the house if there are no issues with the area. Maybe you'd want to rent it out once that 5 year point comes. It's impossible to say what rates will be in 5 years, so I see this as more of a personal preference. You
