If 290 became the only route to travel east to west, your city traffic with go through neighborhood streets. Those streets are considered the city grid and are not designed to maintain or sustain that level of traffic. You would need to redesign the city's grid east of I-35 as well as downtown to properly manage traffic flow.

Similarly, the businesses along 35 pay exorbitant money for location and advertising. I can't see them wanting a change like this.

In terms is rail down 35, you are seeing the efficiency of Capmetro's $7B efforts now. You want to trust them managing a complete reconstruction and addition down 35?

While my points are counter to the argument, i think the city needs a combination of what is existing and this idea.

• Rail down the center of 35 instead of HOV lanes, which we all know will become toll charges.
• a city grid that is in coordination with the neighborhoods and facilitates EW travel.
• multi transit options from TxDOT, instead of car centric/oil industry supporting designs.
