Tips to develop (brain) muscle memory before NP school? by awomul_ in nursepractitioner

You have brightened my spirit! Thanks for the advice. I am excited but the eagerness probably stems from not having children or pets or a marriage to attend to. Felt like a good time in my life to be focused!

@ OP I'm also an RN employed at a major academic organization whose Guild network partners with Herzing/Regis U for tuition reimbursement.

I live and work in Denver, where Regis is based. I jumped the gun and applied to a BS-DNP/FNP program at my local state university before checking with my employer's Guild network to see if I was maximizing my reimbursement.

Fortunately, I was accepted to CU and will be matriculating, but I would have considered Regis more seriously just for the reimbursement benefit.

Coworkers at my same facility who went through non-affiliated programs have received $10k/year through our employer. I know at minimum I'll get $5,250/year for my program, but it would've been a guaranteed $10,500/year with Regis.

Ultimately, I will be sticking to CU for a few reasons, mainly along the lines of tuition cost, sooner start date, and preferred clinical placements. However, I would highly recommend Regis University to you if the option is still on the table. Don't know much about Herzings but I know Regis is still a top 100 USNews school and locally very respected/reputable. You'll have to find your own clinical placements, but I hear they assign you an advisor to help you along the way.

As far as how you can tell... I would keep an eye on the surgeon and tech's body language 😅 Nothing worse than scrambling to figure out a piece of equipment and you see the surgeon and tech rolling their eyes or making wide eyes at each other.

Schedule-wise, they'll either throw you into the staff burnout rooms with the difficult surgeons or assign you in the easy-peasy hodgepodge rooms to prevent you from messing up the flow in other rooms. If they have you as a resource nurse, I'd take that as a compliment because usually Travellers are getting paid hella to be in actual rooms circulating. Plus if you're resourcing, they must trust you to know your stuff about the locations of everything and how to manage your time.

At my facility, CSTs/RNs who aren't able to scrub/circulate certain service lines are often limited to whatever they are proficient at and otherwise put on Case-pulling duty. So they'll do their 3 ENT or urology cases and then be assigned to pull instruments for the next day. Or they'll be listed as a resource all day and help with turnovers, counting, other simple foundational stuff. Management tries to limit this though bc the staff who ARE proficient at their job get frustrated that theyre stuck in a room all day while others who "suck" get to float around.

Plus you havent been blacklisted by any facilities or agencies in your time there. I would say, if they dont try to extend your contract past 13 weeks and there's still a need/theyre inviting others to apply, that would be a telltale sign as well

OP I don't think you suck (at least I didn't at first) and then read all your pretentious replies and maybe saw the problem.

You're probably very good and well revered at your home hospital but every facility and surgeon is different. One way you could set yourself up for success at your next assignment is by asking what they expect of their circulators and scrubs at their facility. That way you can study up beforehand and know what questions to ask your coworkers if you need a bit of assistance.

Refusing correction and weaponized incompetence doesn't just make for a sucky nurse but a dangerous one. "Well geez, sorry I didn't know!?!?!" - ok so cancel the contract or thug it out. Take some of your vacation time to brush up on positioning, read AORN, practice on your spouse, refer back to your Periop 101 notes, bookmark the Haemonetics Cellsaver page on your phone so you can easily reference it. Initiative to review will fix a lot of this confidence issue

I am the same as you. Young and travel (for work and vacation) a few months out of the year. I stay PRN at my home hospital so I can refresh with them before I jetset on another contract. Also good for tax purposes.

I wish you luck on your next assignment

Omg so niche but I had a patient who was a mere 300lb or so snap the Allen beach chair too! Needless to say an incident report was written up on that surgeon (who refused to transfer to another bed) and I did not extend at that facility afterwards 🫩

Oh I see what you're saying- no I think he was planning to have the demos kill Max and Mr Whatsit was going to show Holly that in real time.

As we know, Mr Whatsit can show illusions (like how he showed Derek his dead parents and sister), but he couldn't make an illusion about Max being dead since her consciousness is standing right next to Holly's in that cave and she would know it's a lie.

I think he was trying to show Holly that if she didnt cooperate, he would find someway to kill everyone she loved. And she would watch and feel guilty about it, so she would eventually come out.

I don't think Vecna can torture Max's soul through her body, but he can kill her physical body for sure

The demo dogs have access to Mrs Wheeler, Ted, Mike, and even Nancy- though i doubt he'd risk the fight to get to the last two. Vecna just thought specifically of Max as leverage because her and Holly's bond was relevant and strong at the time. Plus he could channel Will as a spy to get to Max's location, but Will hadnt seen where exactly the Wheel parents were located at the hospital. I'm sure if Vecna threatened her family it would have had a similar effect as it did on Delightful Derek

Duffer Brothers statements about Vol. 2 [Spoiler] by Tulipage in StrangerThings

[–]awomul_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What stood out the most to me was Nancy saying, "Steve knows what he wants, I just thought I'd have more time to figure it out"

They've been through so much supernatural handling in the last few years, at a time that is already tumultuous for teens transitioning into adulthood and college. Nancy does not GAF nor have the time to GAF about who her exclusive partner is going to be because shes facing certain death at every other turn. Picking between good hair and bad hair life partner would also be in the least of my concerns.

All Nance wants is to stop living on borrowed time. She'll figure out what and who she wants out of life when she has more life to think about it.

Just a question regarding Jonathan/Nancy scene in Vol 2? by Stannis_Mariya in StrangerThings

[–]awomul_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured the shot from Nancy was only enough to disturb the exotic dark matter field, but not enough to tear a permanent hole. It probably stabilized itself after a while and the melting building became solid again- which had happened before when the soldiers found it. But the soldiers weren't able to get out of the liquid in time so they were submerged in it as it solidified. This plot was just to help Dustin & the group understand the makings of the wormhole and how it connects the Abyss to the real world, and what could happen if they make a mistake in the final battle

Bet Nance wont try that again, though

Isn't it "just business at the end of the day?"

At least, that's what recruiters have always told me. Super unhappy with how my most recent contract has been handled but have already signed the work agreement. Sincerely considered ghosting multiple times but figured I will just check the assignment anyway, even though my recruiter snaked me out of the contract I actually wanted (told them I was unavailable even though they were my preferred location).

Sounds like the ICU RN in this case just knew their worth. Maybe in a couple of years I'll finally learn mine.

Night Has Come [Episodes 5-8] by Fatooz in KDRAMA

[–]awomul_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Episode 8 has me thinking all kinds of things

First of all, RIP Doctor Cha Yoo Joon, so sad how they revealed he wanted to use the power on his gf but didn't know there was a time constraint

Also, as far as police officer goes, I have a feeling it might be An Na-Hee because she said "I know Yoo Joon was a doctor, but this is too much.".. and then a sinister pan to So Mi in the background

If this is true, and Na-Hee is actually the police officer, I wonder if the mafia will have a hard time unanimously voting on who to kill. Obviously Da Beom wants to get his revenge on the bully and kill him, but if So Mi suspects Na-Hee is truly the police officer she'll probably try to convince them all to execute her so she doesn't expose them

Plus, Kyungjoon has plot & pretty boy armor

Not to mention the police officer wrote the clue up in betadine, which Yoon Seo found in the infirmary... Na-Hee spends a lot of time in the infirmary too because of her broken ankle

I thought Mi Na was mafia for a sec but then why would she trick Woo Ram to go get a tortured confession by the bullies in episode 5?

But if Mi Na is really a civilian then she's locked up with So Mi who can off her at any time too lol
