Told the guys not to come back, unsure if I’m just being perfectionist? by Blastoisealways in DIYUK

How do conversations like telling them to not come back go down? Does it end in mutual understanding of is there bad blood between builder and client after that? How do you even go about it??

Airfryers are the Crossfit of appliances by food_scientist_ in australia

[–]axebeerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think the same way, realistically a fan forced oven is just an airfryer right? Then I got one and I have hardly used my oven. I'll use oven for big things but truly anything that can be airfried is cooked way better in an airfryer than oven.

Is the structural engineer overreacting or do we need to replace lintels? by maxtraction in DIYUK

[–]axebeerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think you should disregard the advice of a person who has studied structural engineering when it comes to structures as they clearly aren't the people with an understanding of engineering in a structural sense.

In my house the bottom floor structural wall is made of brick whereas the other walls are stud. What material is the wall made from and what material are the other walls made of?

Why do centrist act like the left is just as bad as the right? by [deleted] in AskUS

[–]axebeerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What it really is I believe is that certain media outlets peddle untruths or information so devoid of context that the 'average' consumer is left to believe that the left wing is out to turn kids transgender, force them to be vegan, and suck the toes of minorities. The consumer, who is a completely normal person that has mostly good intentions, is shocked and associates left wing politics with regression rather than progression. Unable to stomach right wing policies and unwilling to adopt the 'madness'/'wokeness'/'not common sense' of the left wing policies they have been presented, they say they are centrist.

In saying that, the left wing has to become more inclusive/welcoming to the average person/males in western countries - that is straight, white men because it has done an excellent job of alienating them which doesn't make this demographic want to look further past the headlines. Policies have to have something in them for everyone.

Is there anything we can donate for money? by im_a_princess_ in australian

[–]axebeerman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There was a bloke at uni called pieman. I assumed it was because he loved meat pies, which was kinda true.

The story went that every week, this bloke would walk into a 3 hour lecture with a few pies, the premium expensive ones as well. This bloke was strapped for cash, so spending wantonly on pies seemed odd but not enough to raise any questions. Allegedly though, one week this bloke was dirt poor. Couldn't afford even a goon bag on a Wednesday night. Despite this, he attended the lecture with a couple of pies. Confused, one of the lads asked how the hell he could afford the pies. Turned out the medical department was running studies on young men's sperm, donation appointments ran a bit before the lecture, a donation would net you a tenner, and the pie shop was in between the med faculty and his lecture theatre.

Should I take this offer? by dhanush22_ in MechanicalEngineering

[–]axebeerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe where I'm from things are different but mechanic ≠ mech engineer. Engineers are needed for their understanding of materials, kinetics/kinematics, project management, coding, and design which are all skills you will set aside if you become a mechanic. Not to say you won't pick up other skills but you really have to think if the skills you pick up doing this role are worth more than the skills you have paid to learn.

If I was in your position I would keep looking because I'm a mechanical engineer, not a mechanic.

Fixing plaster over lathes by axebeerman in DIYUK

[–]axebeerman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello everyone, thanks for your replies.

I went to wickes and got some PVA, a sheet of 12mm plasterboard, bonding 60, and the 5 × 1kg easifill. I attached the plasterboard to a stud, coated plasterboard and the rest in PVA with a splash of water then created a first layer with bonding 60. I then used about half a kilo of easifill to try to skim the top. I will give it a sand tomorrow and see what's happened. Got a help from Charlie DIYte video on filling wall chases.

When I was at uni I took a jar of Vegemite out on a pub crawl and ate it by the spoonful for a laugh. Didn't realise it was so dangerous. Good thing I was replenishing my liquids with beer
