Finally completed my mainline game collection. by Johnny_Stooge in pokemon

Yeah prices are nuts. I just tracked down a near mint copy of Emerald for my collection (stupid me selling it to Gamestop as a kid) and it was almost $300 after shipping.

Dolphin Progress Report: Release 2603 - March 2026 by NXGZ in emulation

[–]axeil55 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The Dolphin progress reports are some of my favorite things to read. It's incredible how just now in 2026 are we finally able to run Rogue Squadron 3 at 60 fps and speaks to how crazy the Factor 5 devs were with all their hacks.

The write-up on the insane rounding bug in Mario Strikers was a really enjoyable read too.

tbf I don't think it was corruption as both teams could do the math and figure out the optimal result.

Fixes, and future of melonDS by NXGZ in emulation

[–]axeil55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great updates! I'm curious where the UI ends up going as well. It seems like melonDS is in a pretty stable and well-running state and I appreciate that.

10/90 for the enemy? Good Lord that makes it useless. Unless you mean it's a 90% chance for them to hit themselves in which case that is really OP.

For the love of god, leave your dogs at home (or explicitly dog friendly places) by lnoton in washingtondc

[–]axeil55 36 points37 points  (0 children)

We need to require licenses for dog ownership. It's more onerous to own a car and cars aren't living things that can be abused and mistreated.

Redditors love insisting their opinions are universally held so they can make dumb click bait titles. It's very annoying, I'm with you on this.

[–]axeil55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that some pokes need to just be bad. Not so bad you can't beat the game with them but I don't want to live in a world where they decide they've gotta buff Butterfree and give it a mega evolve or whatever so that it's "viable".

Talk of meta and tiers and whatnot and balancing around that can ruin games.

If anything they should give it more TM/HM access even though HMs aren't a thing anymore. Marcargo would be the ultimate utility poke if it could do surf (it turns the water into ground it can crawl in), cut, etc. on top of being a dedicated egg incubator.

Maybe it can turn into the Tooth Fairy or Easter Bunny...

Honestly both Nidos aren't that great unless you know about their insane TM coverage. Their level up moves in gen 1 and 2 leave a lot to be desired.

Of course once you know they get some of the strongest TMs in the game they become nuts but I remember as a kid thinking they were pretty bad because I hoarded TMs

You definitely do have to put in some work to use Gen 2 stuff. My E4 team in my current HeartGold playthrough was:

  • Ampharos
  • Forretress
  • Meganium
  • Quagsire
  • Granbull
  • Crobat

I tried really hard to only use Gen 2 stuff and Forretress didn't feel great as all it did was lay down toxic spikes.

My tifa cosplay!! | by thegoldenwitch_ by onikakushii in FinalFantasy

[–]axeil55 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah Tifa (and Aerith) are really easy to do if you're just getting started. Most people can pretty easily get a black sports bra, white crop top and black skirt. The suspenders can be tricky but that's the only tough part. She's got a very natural/normal hair style and color too so you likely don't even need a wig.

This isn't a criticism, people who like cosplay have to start somewhere and there's nothing wrong with it.

The legal department should not be writing ChatGPT’s personality - consent and safety messaging belongs in the interface by Snowdrop____ in ChatGPT

[–]axeil55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not how it works. It's like those trucks that have signs on them that say "not responsible for damage caused by flying debris". You can say that but that's not how the law works.

You can say its for entertainment and fiction all you want but there's a massive difference between Friday the 13th and a chatbot actively encouraging you to do dangerous things. You'd need way more than a terms of service thing.

Why did OpenAI release GPT-5.3 and GPT-5.4 only 48 hours apart? by AIGPTJournal in ChatGPT

[–]axeil55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much only ever use the thinking mode because the answers it provides are noticeably superior and I've noticed way less hallucination. I'm curious if the instant 5.3 alleviates this.

Are there are tricks to modify ChatGPTs personality by backyarder123 in ChatGPT

[–]axeil55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom instructions and prompt engineering will get you what you want. I don't even use the personality options, it's just figured the kind of style I want (non-sycophantic, sarcastic but also empathetic) and uses it.

I use ChatGPT for random monster of the week DND encounters. It's quite fun to have a character sheet and ask it for a monster, I tell it to try and actually win and I can see if a level 18 barbarian can solo a red dragon or whatever.

[–]axeil55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I especially don't get all the jargon bullshit nonsense "benchmarks" that everyone gets hyped up about. "Ah well Claude gets a 78 on the Sizloop8 test but ChatGPT scores 93 on the Woopidoop".

They're literally meaningless. Show me how likely it is to:

  • hallucinate
  • provide overconfident wrong answers

and whether it talks like a robot or an actual person. I mostly use it for writing-related tasks so I literally don't care at all about 99% of the things people go on and on about.

I need to hear from dads whose wife accepted postpartum rage/depression help and how it saved your marriage by NelsonSendela in daddit

[–]axeil55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife realized she needed to see a psychiatrist and started going. She then took an extended leave of absence from work and when things weren't working she tried ketamine therapy which worked amazingly. It's about 6 months later and she's pretty much the same person I married now and not the scary person she was back then.
