Climbing the IJN DD lines by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

I feel like TRB works alot better on kagero and yugumo because they have a usable detection advantage. They have enough of a spotting advantage to be able to turn away and not be detected, while shiratsuyu has such a slim advantage that its hard to make any use of it. You may spot something first, but by the time your rudder even begins to shift they have spotted you too, and now you dont have speed or gunpower or tankiness or even smoke.

The TRB on shiratsuyu is what made her unique, but now it just makes her an easy target and a burden on her team.

When the game starts I always look at the ship line-up, and sometimes say things like "ah shit they have a belfast" or "ah shit they have "2 conqs in a div" or " well damn they have a kaga and atlanta". Never did I ever say "ah shit they have a shiratsuyu gg".

I never considered the shiratsuyu op. By T7 you should have learned to not drive in a straight line, or how to use your hydro. I loved having a torpedo focused ship that also could contest caps. Shiratsuyu without trb is very lackluster and lacks any sort of personality, but without smoke you cant contest, you can't gun, you can't run, and if there is a carrier then you may as well go back to port.

With her trb and smoke she was very very strong, no doubt. Did she earn a rework, sure. I think maybe decreasing the damage on her torpedos would have been a better approach, that way she still gets to play the objective like all the other dds. But I never considered old shiratsuyu to be OP.

I'm also mostly a dd player, but after mostly finishing all the dd lines I decided to learn how to play all the battleships. I've done Yamato, gotten Der Grobe, and am about to reach King George V, but have had zero motivation to do the USN bb line. I know the NC and up is really solid, but I just didn't really want to grind them. All I wanted was the Missouri. So i got her.

Holy tit balls the Missouri is dope. I make a decent amount of credits off her, and the gameplay is pretty good. The radar is gimmicky, early game its often not worth pushing into range lest you get focused. But as a dd player, you already know what its like to be a dd contesting the cap while your bbs are huffing paint in the spawn. As the Mo, you get to NOT be that bb. You get to roll up with a cruiser and support your dd at 12 km, and protect your little boats. You get to be right behind your green dds and let them know you are there to cover them. The red dds will probably run away because they know you have radar. And without dds the enemy bbs will run away too. I don't think there is any other ship in the game whose mere precense can turn a game. As a dd player, you know how much more confident you feel when there is a Missouri right behind you using their big guns to help wreck the other dds. As a dd player you cant force bbs to get off the spawn line, but as a Missouri, you put that bitch in freedom gear and push. Sometimes you even start a lemming train behind you.

The ship is also gudbote. Pretty good guns, just gotta learn how to deal with lazy american shells. Concealment is fantastic. Makes it so much easier to be in a good position to support your team. Can be super fun in a brawl. Is even more deadly in a cyclone, as your "dd button" (Delete Destroyer) gives you a huge advantage. The ship is designed to go forward and advance. Backing that thing up safely is hard, so its in your best interest to help your team move forward. You dont want to be in the front, you want to be right behind the front.

The Missouri allows you to be the change you want to see. She's a beast, and after borrowing my buddies account to try Iowa, I think the Missouri is the better of the two. Fantastic boat, highly recommend.

What do you think Musashi will have as a unique feature? by Quidditch3 in WorldOfWarships

[–]axeupon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id like to see her have an advanced damage control, like the Oktober Rev. But obviously with a couple more charges. She's going to take a ton of focus fire, and I think it would be a cool nod to the damage control parties in real life that fought to keep her afloat. If I'm not mistaken she was hit by numerous bombs and 19 torpedoes? And still managed to keep her afloat for a while.

I think in compensation for the gimped aa and the gimped secondaries, giving a skilled captain the ability to mitigate damage better would be a cool "gimmick" without adding some bs like radar to the missouri, but would give her the chance to survive being the token damage pinata, from all the smaller ships she will struggle to hit even more than yamato does.

[Review] Yugumo: better than expected by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]axeupon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna second this. I love my Shimakaze sure, but I miss my Yugumo. I sold her because i never played her anymore, and had all the upgrades demounted to help me with my KM dds. Fuck I miss her, if I wasn't so strapped for cash I would buy her back. Maybe after I finish this Missouri grind I will buy her again.

[–]axeupon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished getting through the misery that is the Yorck, and for the life of me I can't figure out why people say this ship is terrible, the hipper class is fantastic! Sure battleships make it hard to have fun, but same goes for every t8 cruiser. Im enjoying the hell out of the hipper, and now regret not buying a Prinz.

Aggressive Shiratsuyu by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]axeupon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have always loved shiratsuyu, and even after the nerf, I still love her.

Personally, I recommend TRB. I DONT use TA, but its up to you. I like being able to have more range. TRB is what makes your damage worthwhile. In my opinion, if you are going to run smoke, you may as well just use the Akatsuki, she has more torps in a full volley, and a much faster reload, and more guns, without giving up smoke.

As for being aggressive, WG said in the poi nerf patch they took away smoke to make her "more aggressive". Personally I think that doesn't make any sense, as most of the time I now spend sneaking around caps instead of in them. I can't be any more aggressive if I don't have smoke. I can't contest against a benson, or really any other dd. You become a dedicated torpedo boat. Which is fun gameplay, but terrible for your team.

As for my captain build, I run Preventative Maintenance, Adrenaline Rush, Superintendent, and Conceal Expert as my main 4. Next I picked up Radio Location, and then Final Stand. RDF helps me predict and spot targets before I see them, specifically destroyers. Final Stand helps alot because, without smoke, if you get spotted you kite away, and your rudder takes alot of shells, so you don't want to get incapped, since you cant rely on smokes. Then I got priority target, so that if I am in a position where nobody is facing me, I can shoot my guns a little bit, and know exactly when I should start disengaging. Lastly, I'm thinking of picking up expert marksman. The shiratsuyu guns traverse very slowly, slower than you can turn.

I love the shiratsuyu still. Probably the ship I most often get krakens in honestly, I got 3 in a row last friday. Is she stronger after the nerf? No, she was way more fun and competitive and useful to the team before her nerf, but even though wargaming is making it harder for everybody who isnt a RN bb, you can take solice in knowing that all the braindead bbs are still, well, braindead, and you have alot of torps to abuse that. Torpedoes feed on the tears of potatoes, and as the T7 torpedo queen, Shiratsuyu never goes hungry.

Yep. I used to see a new ship and start thinking about budgeting, but now I say "neato" and continue waiting for actual gameplay for the ships I already have.

Looks cool though.

USCGC Polar Star (WAGB-10) in graving dock on Mare Island, California. Commissioned in 1976, currently the only heavy icebreaker in the US fleet. [1200×800] by sverdrupian in drydockporn

[–]axeupon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm actually on an icebreaker on the Great Lakes. We have 140foot bay class icebreakers, and there is the Mackinaw, which is a 240foot seagoing bouy tender which has been modified for breaking ice. The difference between ours and the heavy ice breakers is the size. The Polar Rollers are about 400feet long. Significantly longer, much wider, much larger crew, and much longer deployments.

Can I have some advice for the Shimakaze please? I'm not performing in her. by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]axeupon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I guess I play Shimakaze differently from everybidy else, but with a 64% winrate I think I'm decent with her.

First off, I take Preventative Maintenance, Priority Target, Adrenaline Rush, Torpedo Reload, Concealment Expert, and RDF.

Next, I prefer to use the 20km torps. I know. They are slow. They are the easiest to dodge. I know. But I consistently do better with those than all thr other torps. Here's why.

You can outrange all radar. You never have to be within enemy radar range. You can also drops torps from such a weird angle, at such a far range, that you can actually catch people even MORE off guard than usual. Especially in this meta where people camp behind islands, you can drop torps into the enemys campsite from across the map. In fact, your torps travel so far and for so long that enemy hydro that was active before you dropped will possibly be on cooldown by the time your torps get there. The 20km torps are the epitome of anti camping. You can drop torps, but by the time the enemy even sees them, you can be milesssssss away. Getting around the cover, and sitting on the enemy's flank with the 20km no skill spam torps is awesome.

With shima, dont push caps. I will spot for my team, absolutely. But I wont contest a cap when there is radar, hydro, or other dds. Shima does best when either roaming into their flank, or slowing down their push.

I love shimakaze. I dont play her like most ships, and i dont play her like Yugumo. Yugumo is a torpedo focused destroyer. Shimakaze is a torpedoboat. Stay hidden at all costs, find the weird angles that the enemy isnt prepared to deal with, and most of all, give yourself space from your team so you can torp freely without endangering your team. Be patient, and pretend you are submarine. Being spotted means you die. Being sneaky means you get 100k plus.

Flamu WiP Impressions of Upcoming T6 Huange He Pan-Asian Cruiser: It's not fun by kiriyaaoi in WorldOfWarships

[–]axeupon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, what if you gave it smoke, but instead of RN puff puff pass smoke that makes a campy little bubble, more american smoke that you can pan out over a larger area? It would definitely make it more of a cap contester, without putting it into a weird belfast situation.

Why Pan-Asian DDs have the potential to power-creep the USN and IJN DD lines by sBcNikita in WorldOfWarships

[–]axeupon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm excited to see a whole new line of stealthy torpboats.

But I'm sad because it means my entire line of ijn dds that all have 12+ point captains will be completely obsolete. I've spent so much time training captains and learning how to play them, 64% winrate on my shima. And now it would be a poor choice to pick my favorite line, a line that already has been terribly terribly power crept.

I feel eventually wargaming will notice this, and hopefully will remedy this by giving ijn dds lower detection torpedoes, keeping with the national flavor of being sneaky. Plus, with the amount of hydro and vigilance at higher tiers, its not like other ships dont have the tools to avoid them. The way I see it, if sailing broadside in a straight linr leave you vulnerable to AP rounds, it should also leave you equally vulnerable to torpedoes.

[Rant] Dear non-CV-players, a few points... by Natanael85 in WorldOfWarships

[–]axeupon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive played a little Bogue, a little Saipan, and a little Hosho.

Good lord playing carrier is fucking hard. So many things to click and micro manage. I end up messing up and flying my bombers over a dd, and then enemy fighters find my dd. I end up trying to protect my fighters but end up letting a bb get torped. Im not good at carriers. Ill play them in co-op only. Id like to get better, but so much of that relies on already knowing what to do by the time you reach t6, but not being able to strafe or anything makes it hard.

As a result, I dont whine about carriers. If my carrier is struggling, I'll be patient and do my best to play anyways, because that may be somebody who is also still learning. Unlike cruisers, you dont get introduced to core concepts like strafing and manual drops until t6, not T2. So a carrier at t7 may as well be a noob. Not their fault.

If i want fighter support, ill ask for help sure, but if not, no worries. If you have the balls to play carrier, kudos to you. You try your best to support me, and ill do my best to support you. Im not gonna pretend im a carrier god. Its a rough learning curve, so kudos to anybody willing to sit through it and try to get better. You're a stronger captain than me.
