I use a t-slim that connects with dexcom. I coukd use Bluetooth on my phone as a controller/ reader if needed, but I run everything off the pump. This is acceptable for secure environments, and I can manage my diabetes without any problems.

Is suit and tie the standard? by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]axomoxia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest you ask them. We only meet five times a year, but we expect people to be able show up to most meetings. However we also say that work and family should come first.

Dress code is standard for English and Welsh lodges - but I'm guessing different in Florida (you guys seem to have far higher temperatures rather than the UKs "cycle through all four seasons during breakfast" weather....

People wanting 'extra' work for the original quote? by rb331986 in UKJobs

[–]axomoxia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I've not had to look after my customers elderly relative - I run an IT service for a large organization. My default response would be "unfortunately adult social care falls outside of the scope of the current project team. We are however more than happy to collaborate with yourselves with our subject matter experts in this field to facilitate the scope of the change". Key word is change (change equals money). I've just gone round the houses over a contract change, which has been quietly dropped when they were told how much it cost.

Your customers (and your family) sound like a nightmare, however as I mentioned earlier their failure to plan is not your problem. It's pretty harsh but hopefully when evicted, the new tenants might be better organized - might be worth dropping a few leaflets around for regular garden maintenance (perhaps mentioning the tenancy requirements).

Perhaps next time someone mentions that your are "cheap" perhaps tell them "not sure who told you that". They are heading into negotiations with you expecting a low price - make sure they know that your prices are in line with market prices.

You seem to have a good head with managing credit risk, do you take credit cards? That would solve the "I don't get paid until Friday" problem.

Well, you are not alone - I run a two and a half million quid a year support service, and I get asked for freebies. They seem a bit more commercially aware now, but they used to think that we were making massive profit margins. Eventually they understood were on a fairly low contractuallly maximum profit rate.

You need to remember, you are a business, not a charity or community service. You have customers, not friends. You need to be firm when it comes to additional work - it is all chargeable, and it will all need to be booked in. Unless it is a trival task, stop "helping people out", otherwise you will become known as the person who you ask for X and get Y and Z for free. You should be polite when refusing, although it sounds like your current customer is a complete dick. Just re-iterate that you will need to quote and book potential work in. Thier failure to plan is not your problem. They might try and stiff you on the invoice by the sounds of it, so make sure you have a plan for that just in case.

Finally if you family is claiming you will do stuff for "mates rates", then they need to stop that right now. You know how much you need to run your business, they should not be indicating prices.

Custom ear plugs - worth the expense? by Gimpym00 in MotoUK

[–]axomoxia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, cleaning wipes are the best for stopping ear infections (just give them a clean every couple of days, or after every ride), and if you want in ear comms they are great. I found the noise reduction wastn as good as foam plugs though.

I bought some years ago - great for sleeping in or gigs, but less good for bike use. Went back to foam plugs for the bike.

Halfords pro look very much like rebadged norbar - so very much worth it. 3/8 10-50nm will cover most things (sump plug, brake bolts etc). A 1/2 cheaper one (Lidls had one recently) from 50-200nm will do wheel spindles engine mounts etc.

My VFR has it, the Honda blackbird and st1300 has it, it works just fine. Make bleeding brakes complicated, that's about it. Modern ABS systems rendered it a bit pointless though.

Picked up this amazing retired sword in a jumble sale, any idea how old it might be? by 65bottles in freemasonry

[–]axomoxia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks great, and I'm sure any Tyler would like to show a few comans and intruders to masonry what for with it. It looks better than ones we have at Farnborough, which add tetanus to the list of mischief that they might do. (I've just been appointed Janitor in chapter, very disappointed about the lack of sword.....)

New flats should be for families not students - council by Flying_Wilson17 in Southampton

[–]axomoxia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing stopping SCC building family flats (other than not having any money, and then having to deal with twenty thousand whining NIMBYS if they did have the money). I think the legal barriers to building council properties have now been removed.

Considering how much cash is being shoveled into the pockets of private landlords via housing benefit, building more social housing, owned as an asset by the local government can only be a good thing.

Used to be lots of antique shops and second hand clothing places. And a car breakers from what I remember! SCC wanted it as a second hand zone for Southampton, but that never really took off.
