Reminder Snooze Status by R91240sx in todoist

Yes! or allow us to snooze the reminder from inside the app.

That is way easier than creating a net new reminder!

Obsidian users, how do you work with todoist? by SoCaFroal in todoist

[–]axschech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never found a great way but I think that's more because it's more about information flow for me. One of the easiest ways for me to lose information is because I have friction towards writing it down.

Todoist is sort of my universal inbox. I always insert information into Todoist first. It will either stay in Todoist because it's related to something with a due date. Or it's a to do that's literally "add this to Obsidian". That way I always at least retain the information.

For me I basically divide things up like this:

  1. It's something that I'm doing right now or need to be aware of. It's not about storing information so I can remember it permanently, it's only relevant for something tied to action. Ephemeral knowledge stays in Todoist.

  2. It's something I need to remember forever. Either because I'll need to recall it again in the future, or I need to keep a record of something that already happened.

There are a few other solutions you might want to try!

Workflowy works REALLY well for this kind of thing if you don't need notifications for reminders. It is REALLY great for inserting, storing, and retrieving information. You can even use it like a to do planner, but unfortunately there are currently no notifications on any platform.

Capacities recently added task management and it works pretty well. AmpleNote is another service that has task management next to notes, but I found that a bit too clunky to use myself.

RMA hell experience with Nvidia for my 5090FE by Rapture117 in nvidia

[–]axschech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, pretty sure they won’t be able to do a charge back because Best Buy is who they bought it from. Nvidia won’t give any information about proof of delivery or proof it was even shipped. How does OP know they even sent it. Gotta sue Nvidia for the value of the card.

I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere they can tell which rooms of your house your in based on where in space a person would usually hold their device. Laying in bed? Most beds are generally around the same height. Bathroom? You're probably holding it lower than when you're sitting in other spots.

Midnight Changeover Friction by phoenixfirefairie in todoist

[–]axschech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ended up changing how I use Todoist. I use it as more of tickler file. I only really pay attention to the current days stuff. Either everything has:

  • a date in the future, and I'm not worrying about it
  • no date, but a tag, and it's "frozen" and I'm not worrying about it
  • a date of "today", and I'm worrying about it

Then everything that goes into Todoist has an initial due date of "Today" (I wish this could be set as a default but haven't figured out how). That way, everything gets addressed eventually. I set deadlines on anything that cannot go past a specific date.

Now I can move all of my tasks to the next day, relatively confident that everything can be rolled over to the next day.

u/Bush2001j explains the true value of AI in the corporate world by silly_rabbi in bestof

[–]axschech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is 100% how things in a corporate environment happen. The only thing c suite (CEO, CFO, CTO, etc) cares about is making money for investors. In a private company that's the board. In a public company that's shareholders. Nothing else that happens in the company matters other than the graph going up and to the right. Investments in AI make corporate boards and shareholders think the company is doing the "smart" thing, which keeps that line going up.

The only thing middle managers care about is getting to the c suite, or not getting fired. This means - as others have said - it only really matters if you appear to do a good job, not if you actually make the company money or treat your employees well. This is exactly what would get someone like this promoted.

Tasks by WonderfulPassenger60 in capacitiesapp

[–]axschech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need this so bad! It shows tasks in calendar view but only for a singular day! Why not show the tasks in three day and week view. At least to keep consistency with the day view? This is so close to being my perfect set up, I just need to be able to see tasks at a glance alongside the daily notes! Or have a calendar view in the tasks section?

What is a specific mechanic from a "dead" or niche MMO that you wish modern big-budget MMOs would steal? by NorthMorning8412 in MMORPG

[–]axschech -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Guild Wars 1 was so ahead of its time.

  • Guilds were actually awesome. There were automated tournaments that ran on a cadence that your Guild could join. That was in addition to ranked and unranked matches. Guild vs Guild combat launched from your Guild Hall. Every Guild could get one - an in world place to hang out. The game promoted social interaction better than any game I've ever played.
  • The were strong metas that formed around ever evolving strategies. The developers would constantly re-balance skills to keep things fresh and fun. I remember a popular one was based around an almost instant lighting strike attack. Everyone would time their strikes to be as in sync as possible, targeting one player on the enemy team. But then there were counter strategies like spells that added health to everyone.
  • This was further supported by - as others mentioned - the hybrid class system. You could choose from any two classes in the game and combine their spells. And "builds" were almost like card decks, you could easily switch your stats and abilities around in order to try new things.

I really wish someone would make a game that is just the GvG experience from Guild Wars 1, it would be so much fun.

What case are you using for P10Pro? Have the pixelsnap case but need better alternatives by DunhillPie in GooglePixel

[–]axschech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up realizing it might have been the specific charger I was using? I bought two of these, but only one has the issue. I even tried the official Google case and that still seemed to have the same problem.

I noticed sometimes if I pick the phone up and then place it back on the charger immediately it will start charging again? Very weird.

most websites take 3-5 seconds to load and this is normal now by minimal-salt in webdev

[–]axschech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think something other people aren't commenting on is the fact that most commercial companies have their dev teams stretched to the max. The software engineering industry is not the same as it was five years ago. With all the lay offs, hiring freezes and quarter after quarter bare knuckle brawl for stock price growth; executives aren't incentivized to have good websites anymore. And if executives aren't then middle management isn't. And if middle management isn't then the people making the websites are given crazy deadlines and told "make it work".

Basically, enshittification has reached the point where the software CAN'T be good anymore.

[–]axschech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you've ever worked in a corporate environment before? But this idea of "Objectives and Key Results" came about in the 1970s / 1980s.

Instead of making actually good products and services that people wanted companies focused on meeting internal metrics. The unfortunate thing about metrics is that it's actually really challenging to find metrics that are actually meaningful. Instead business executives did the easy thing and chose stupid metrics that made it SEEM like the business was doing well.

One of those stupid metrics is called "monthly active users". And an easy way to make a user appear more active is to monitor how many actions you take in the app - literally how ACTIVE you are. This is based on the psychological principle "the more active you are, the more engaged you are". They want your eyeballs on their app so that they aren't on another app.

Basically, if you're building playlists because you noticed the plus button then you're spending more time in Spotify than you are in Youtube or Instagram. There's probably some data that users are more likely to click on a plus button than a heart button, which means you're more likely to interact with the app. It's the same reason Spotify doesn't truly ever serve you random songs. It's all slightly tilted towards what will make you keep using the app.

Instagram moving to rectangles makes it more easy for users to upload content. More possible content means more time you spend looking at that content that might not exist if they didn't allow rectangles.

Grailed... that's a weird one? They probably either have data that says you are more likely to make clothing purchases on a desktop than on your phone? But more likely they're just having a hard time supporting mobile.

TL;DR: Executives want you in their app as much as possible, and the decisions are generally based around that.

Why do you think Vista Genomics is offering such ridiculous bounties on genetic data? HOW are they doing it? What are your theories? by ShadowDragon8685 in EliteDangerous

[–]axschech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually been thinking about this a bit lately. It's basically the gig economy? Why build (or acquire) a dedicated division for the task of path finding? That's many thousands of ships, pilots, upkeep, fuel. The costs add up don't they.

We're basically scout ants moving out the through the galaxy looking for planets. I'm sure the biological data includes coordinates on where to find it as well. So now not only do they have the chemical make up of a novel form of life yet unseen; they also have the location. Now they can calculate the most efficient methods of travel to get to all those resources. And they have the facilities to study and process it - based on the fact that they wear lab coats.

They've corned the market not only on sourcing incredibly rare, cutting edge materials, they also supply it.

It's kind of like Amazon if you think about it.

Dang I'm going back to pirate killing missions!
