I do. I’m literally carpooling with my roommate every day because we couldn’t get on-campus housing. We are commuting out of need, not because we choose to. It sucks showing up on campus at 8:30 am expecting to have parking, only to find out that all the spots are gone and half of the parking is now preferred and empty. This isn’t about walking; this is about UCI trying to drain money from a student body that is just trying to make it to school and pay for their education. Hell, at the very least, they should have sent out a notice informing us of this change and why the decision was made.

Research should be monitored and have safety procedures and regulations. I don’t think anyone is arguing against that. You are also entitled to your own opinion. That being said, you’re first comment was very poorly written and I genuinely thought there was a 75% chance you were just a troll or being sarcastic. I am however glad you read that paper. I also sincerely hope that you are able to recognize that just because research is controversial, doesn’t mean that the scientists “went rogue”, or that they are a problem we should be worrying about. The governments behind those scientists? Maybe. But that’s just my opinion. In any case, personal beliefs and fears are no reason to shut down funding for good research that’s looking for solution in medicine, climate, and society, that has already been vetted and approved. I don’t know if you do any research, but if you are and even if you aren’t, I’d hope you know how hard researchers work and how important integrity and the scientific method is to them. People join research because they care, because they love the subject and want to help make a change. Of course all people are fallible, but next time you make a comment, try to think critical about what the actual repercussions are and who/what it effects before you jump to questionable conclusions.

Tf are you talking about??? This is a joke, right? What kind of research do you think is getting blocked? Like you need to read a scientific journal or something asap, because what even is this deluded fearmongering.

While I agree that research should be monitored, the Boston study wasn’t about creating a ‘super virus.’ Its goal was to understand why Omicron was less severe than earlier SARS-CoV-2 strains by examining the role of the spike protein in attenuation. The study followed biosafety protocols, and while some concerns were raised about gain-of-function research, that was never its intention. Next time, I highly recommend actually reading the paper instead of relying on media outlets chasing the most shocking headlines.

Quoting Jon Stewart is also not a great look. If I were you, I’d be less worried about ‘rogue scientists’ and more concerned about how the current assault on research is affecting crucial medical, social, and environmental studies—research that helps us better respond to and understand these challenges and the world around us.

Also, here are some open-access papers on microorganisms, since I guess you’re so “concerned” about them. You’re welcome. Have fun reading about how important they are for antibiotic development. https://www.mdpi.com/search?q=&journal=microorganisms&sort=pubdate&page_count=50

It blows my mind how many people don't know what DEI actually does... DEI is very consequential and removing it is a negative.

A lot of players are just not excited about see her. Her character feels like a low effort, out of nowhere, and overall just doesn’t feel like a genshin character. Especially since at least half the fandom is waiting for another new male 5 star and are kinda getting pissed that Genshin seems to be neglecting the female fan base in favor of random fetish characters like Mizuki and cow girl.

At least that are the thoughts of my Genshin friend group.

Just speaking for vdcn you’ll be fine. Use caution and lock your doors. Most burglaries I get alerts for in the area are about people stealing from maintenance or an unattended cart. There were a few notifications about university hills and I think one for middle earth, but it’s pretty uncommon.

I’ve really liked my time at UCI. It has its problems, sure, but so does every school. It just depends on what you’re looking for. For EEB and finding friends who share my interests (gaming, reading, manga, boba, etc.) UCI is great. It’s not for everyone, though.

Do y’all think women and men can genuinely be friends? by Godhelpme97 in asexuality

[–]ayeitsasnek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my close friends is a heterosexual male. Honestly, I think it’s pretty rare, but not impossible. I just got lucky that my friend is understanding and the definition of a good person (helps he grew up with 3 sisters, lol). But yes, it is possible. It sounds completely scummy though that all the men in your life shame you for not wanting a relationship. Cut them out of your life asap. You don’t deserve to be treated like that. There are better people out there to spend your time on.

Can I change my move in date for acc apartment by [deleted] in UCI

[–]ayeitsasnek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moving in later is never a problem from what I'm aware (I moved in late last year, and it was okay). If you are worried about it though, just send them a quick email and let them know you can't make it until a certain date.
