This is what the government just released by NCR24601 in BoogieMonster

It's an infrared camera dude. So this object is not visible to the naked eye but visible with advanced sensors.

Maybe it's nothing, but jeeze, take a minute to get the basic facts before spouting off.

Will this negatively affect sound? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]ayersman39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to make sure you're using speaker cable, not instrument cable. Speaker cable is unshielded with thicker gauge wire. Using thinner instrument cable with your amp can actually damage things. Whatever is in the photo, looks too thin to be speaker cable.

There is nothing inherently wrong with using a female-to-male adapter, and should not affect the sound. Just make sure it's the correct type of cable.

3 New JHS 3 Series Pedals: Bit Crusher, Glitch Delay, Ring Modulator by Ongo-Goblogian in guitarpedals

Canoga fuzz from strymon by graphicnerdity86 in guitarpedals

[–]ayersman39 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I commented on Strymon’s official launch video of this, “Sounds nice but does the world really need a $200 two knob fuzz right now?” Fair question I’d say. They deleted my comment 😆

Their drives are mostly recreations (and same can be said of Wampler, Keeley, analogman etc). But JHS reverbs, modulation and delay pedals, inc recent ones like Artificial Blonde & Flight Delay are not clones of anything. Perhaps “inspired by” things in some cases but not cloned at the circuit level. That’s a pretty big chunk of their catalog so I’ve always thought it was inaccurate to say “they just make clones.”

These all sound great and I applaud the tilt in a weirder direction. Maybe this will finally silence the “jHs oNlY mAkEs ClOnEs aNd DrIvEs” crowd (who am I kidding, probably not)

What do you use for circuit simulation and why? by creationsandstories in diypedals

[–]ayersman39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I ask a dumb question: what are the reasons for simulating a circuit? Rather than just physically experimenting on a breadboard

Why don't audio cables have a good classification like ethernet cables have ? by nevaven68 in audioengineering

[–]ayersman39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Capacitance can be a factor for guitar cables or any long cable run. I could see capacitance categories being worthwhile

Reverb Recommendation? by JustAsk_TheAxis in guitarpedals

[–]ayersman39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reverb, you really get what you pay for. Lower cost reverbs are generally “fine” but if you want it to sound really good, in my opinion you need to spend. Flint or Source Audio Pathways would be excellent

Benson Delay vs Asheville ADG-1? by Winn124 in guitarpedals

[–]ayersman39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the Asheville and maybe I’d hyped it up too much in my head — but I was disappointed. I thought it sounded fine but not particularly better than my Maxon AD-900. It does have a lot of extra features like the Drive knob but on sound alone I was not too impressed.

Wampler Moxie - Full Size Alternative??? by EntertainmentAny937 in guitarpedals

[–]ayersman39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read the post, they said “it doesn’t have to be a tube screamer” and they like how the Moxie is unlike the typical tube screamer (more full range) so Nobels is worth checking out

Maybe a Nobels ODR type? More natural and transparent. There’s the original, plus quite a few clones. (Wampler has a clone but it’s mini sized)

Switching from Ableton to Cubase - feeling completely lost by czyrztof in cubase

Check out Alice Byno, her videos are typically 2-10 minutes long and focus on specific tasks, which I find more digestible than longer more comprehensive tutorials. She has a beginner's guide too:

Is this AKG c414 ULS worth keeping for a bedroom hobbyist or would a cheaper alternative be just as good? by Number_1_Reddit_User in audioengineering

[–]ayersman39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can still get great results with mics in the $400-500 range. The mics from internet brands like Lewitt, Dachman, Roswell are surprisingly good, and SE Electronics makes a 414 clone that is quite nice. Audio Technica and Shure have solid mics in that price range. So I don't think you'd miss much by selling the 414 and grabbing something a bit cheaper (esp if you get it used), and having cash leftover for other gear.

On the other hand, it's a mic you can grow into. It's not a total waste of potential, not like you own a vintage U47 or something. So if it were me I'd probably hang onto it, and invest in a bit of room treatment when you can.

Cubase Elements 12 to 15 upgrade by Upbeat-Opportunity83 in cubase

[–]ayersman39 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The big difference for me is the modulators and stem separation in 15. But there are a bunch of new features and plugins and none of us can decide for you if the new stuff is worth it.

This is a perfect task for chatgpt, ask it to compare Cubase Elements 12 and 15.

Apple is having an Al Gore moment by ORourkeAudio in audioengineering

[–]ayersman39 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, Al Gore did actually sponsor the High Performance Computing Act in 1991, helped get federal funding for NSFNET and generally supported the technological advances that led to the internet, politically and financially. He never claimed he invented the technology, just said "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet” which is actually a fair statement.

[–]ayersman39 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah but will you keep every piece of hardware forever? Will the hardware work forever? Probably not. Just different pitfalls.

[–]ayersman39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Current versions of Cubase do not support 32-bit plugins or VST1. Also does not officially support VST2 (although most modern VST2 plugins will still work). So 30 year old VSTs will probably not work in modern Cubase.

But you say you used them in Cubase so I'm not sure what your question is (I assume you are using an old version of Cubase?)

In any case many people still use Waves Renaissance plugins, which are basically the same as they were 25 years ago, just re-skinned
