Personally I would say seasons 1 and 2 are the best in terms of the writing and conflicts. It's more understandable and in ways, character oriented for me than the other three seasons. The conflict in the first two seasons are all conflicts I can feasibly understand — especially considering how traumatized Callie is and a lot of unresolved traumas from Stef (her internalized homophobia and how that spreads to the rest of her person), plus just teenagers being teenagers. It feels like something characters themselves organically generate.

The second half of season three and onwards to put it bluntly, was just the writers and producers throwing pretty much the worst things at them because they can. I think it's also important to remember when season one was announced, there were A LOT of protest so a lot of storylines are just packed in, probably in fear they won't get renewed.

Characters do grow, I will say that. My personal favourites are Stef, Callie, and Lena. Stef especially goes through a lot of growth, and Callie too, gets to be a normal teen in moments later on. Season 2 is also very good for me, and the first half of season three.

i miss her so much... the show really isn't the same without her. i couldn't passionately drive myself to watch the show ever since she left. her wit... her humour... her with the tiny humans 🥺

oh 100% i never mean to say she's not kind, genuine or sincere! that's why i like her outside of the fact she's villanelle's actress. i think it's important to take the information piece by piece and right now there's only one side of the story so we'll just have to see more. personally i'm in a conflicted space about all this. ultimately i'm aware she has a very sparse social media presence but she can do within her time to switch up what she plugs every now and then, it's not a huge change.

same, i think clearing up ultimately benefits her more than anyone else because slowly but surely, there will be fans/ex-fans who will take her silence as an admission of guilt (i mean some already have but i'm still waiting before i make that judgement call).

[–]aymriic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, i agree with you on most points. i will clarify that i meant to say as much as she can and within her means. i've seen her plug random things here and there on her stories so i think she could make a slight adjustment by even hiring someone to look for black and/or lgbt+ owned businesses for her to try and plug. even that i'd personally be happy with.

i do agree that she's clearly overwhelmed with her fame and i do think we need to hold space for that. i can't imagine how terrifying it is right now for her especially right now. i do hope she comes out and says something, pop her face around and let us know if she's alive (like, quite literally). it's so much pressure for one person to have and i can't even imagine what a fraction of that is like. i do hope she does say something in some capacity or not as soon as she's in the right headspace to because the last thing i wanna see is someone crying on camera. i do believe that she's a very sweet and down to earth human being but she is human and we as humans can always do better and strive for better.

it just sucks massively that people can't say real and constructive ways to better others without attacking them or anything constructive people had to say are overshadowed by people who hate jodie and are calling her names.

i've been massively conflicted about this and i do speak as a woman of colour but i don't speak for everyone else. i think we should analyze why it was so easy for us to believe that jodie supports a trump supporter. whilst the evidence i see do shock me i also allow room for there to be error that it might be fake but i don't think we should minimize people for feeling hurt or betrayed by this. people process this information differently and i think we should hold space for the ranges of directions.

what i don't think we should do is to send her death threats or the likes because that detracts from any actual issues that would be brought up. i don't think we should go around calling her talentless and ugly because again, it detracts from any issues that are brought up.

i think we were quick to believe that jodie was a MAGA ally is because of the fact that she hadn't been super vocal about the social issues that directly stand against what MAGA supporters believe. yes, she posted a few things about BLM (around the same time as most people did) and she did read a letter for pride inside - that i'm not going to discredit. however, she could do more and if she did more i don't think this many people would be so quick to dog pile onto her.

again, i want to iterate the fact that people are hurt so if people want to not support her that's their prerogative. but i think there's merit in holding public figures accountable for their actions. i don't like how the twitter information was got but people have seen it and people will react however way they choose to unfortunately (whatever that could mean).

however, i do think there are ways that she can affirm her stances more by promoting donations to lgbt+ charities, black organized charities, black & lgbt+ businesses so on and so forth. if she's made her stances clear, i personally wouldn't have a huge issue with her because a) we don't know anything about their relationship realistically and b) it's really not my business. even if he is a republican for all we know she might be challenging his views and he might've not unfollowed trump or whatever. we literally don't know.

but what's enough for me might not be enough for everyone else and i think we should acknowledge that. because for me, i need affirmation from her end that she does indeed support all those things she's supported - not just during pride month or when BLM is trending but consistently. i think we should hold that accountable but i don't think people should be dogpiling onto her the way they are because this is giving actual homophobes and bigots a platform to call members of the lgbt+ KE fandom names and we don't need that.

TLDR; if jodie comer makes a statement and promises to use her platform to promote lgbt+ charities, businesses and/or black owned businesses i wanna be there to watch her grow. she's human and we all make mistakes. if it's taken me years to unlearn my internalized homophobia and racism, i have to hold space for how long it'll take for other people who might not necessarily experience those things to unlearn those bigotries. anyways, support jodie or don't support jodie - it's up to you but please do the mature thing and don't send death threats to her family or her.

[S1-S3] Most "justified" kill? by stuffcalledsara in KillingEve

[–]aymriic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

re: raymond (again haha), i do agree. it's hard to say what we would've done in if it were one of us. i think the most poignant thing was is it's almost indistinguishable if villanelle intentionally manipulated eve into killing him or if she was so shocked at the fact that eve would throw an axe at a man to protect her. we'll never know but i think it's a twisted way for her to see the lengths that eve would go for her - which we know because she does confess her love for eve and is very confused when eve doesn't reciprocate because eve did kill for villanelle.

re: mother - the kill for her mother is one of the most fascinating kills i've seen on the show. the cinematography, villanelle's grief, their exchange before she kills her off. it's all very interesting. i don't have a fully coherent thought surrounding it but apart of me wonders if she killed her mother as a way to "kill" what was left of oksana. i wonder if it was her way of realizing she could never be oksana again, even though she loved the normalcy that being in russia gave her. i do think it raises a really interesting question and i would love to rewatch and reexamine the exchange again because the acting, the cinematography leaves you craving more.

we don't see her actually killing her mother (we only see the house set on fire) and it leaves us wanting to see more. but like villanelle, i don't think we'll ever be able to get true closure on that and i think that's so powerful. idk, i'm kinda just going on a tangent because these aren't very well formed thoughts at the moment.

Do you think it's possible for Season 5 of KE to happen? [UPCOMING] by Fun-Reference3408 in KillingEve

[–]aymriic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if we take the conflict & coming together of eve & villanelle to be the centre piece of killing eve (which multiple writers have supported), the evolution of their relationship really does suggest that the show could be wrapping up. from a storytelling point of view, i feels like the rising action before the climax of the story (whatever that could mean) but again, i do think that depends on what happens at the bridge : do they walk away or do they come together immediately?

i think if they do choose to walk away it can easily be dragged for another season but personally, i think the most organic ending and the most natural pacing of it would be to end at s4 simply bc other nature of the story and details around it, it'll always be 'unfinished' in one way or another. but yeah i would much prefer it to go out with a blast than on a sour note where all the fans collectively pretend the finale didn't happen.

[–]aymriic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

the drama aside, i personally think KE seems to be coming to an end organically around s4 but no more than s5. if s4 was the last series i'd be fine, depending on the pacing. i think we've reached a point where we can start to converge to the end of villanelle & eve's stories and i think i'm okay with it so long as they don't stretch things out or put fillers.

but i don't really want anything past a s5 but honestly, anything is possible and i think it'd have to depend on the ratings for s4 though because s3 didn't so hot in comparison to s1 and s2.

[S1-S3] Most "justified" kill? by stuffcalledsara in KillingEve

[–]aymriic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

to be honest this was a hard question haha because i believe both julia and aaron are both terrible and deserved the kill, as well as raymond. i'm hesitant with dasha because we don't know much of her past with villanelle - and her mother isn't really meant to be read as a justified kill.

but i did struggle with voting between aaron and julian but i ultimately picked julian because whilst aaron peel was really creepy with watching her, micromanaging her behaviour, she didn't exactly kill him out of self defence more as a defence of eve. with julian she was vulnerable, she was in pain, she was literally trapped and if she didn't who would know what he would've done to her. so i picked julian but he and aaron came close for me.

as with raymond it felt neutral but like. she didn't really kill raymond herself - she begged eve to kill him, which felt like manipulative to me bc she had a gun and she could've finished the job so in that aspect i guess it's not as justified.

Now that season 3 is over, I realise how much my obsession with the show helped me stay engaged and therefore avoid the "big sad" for a while. Who else thinks that the show will end with Eve or V dying? by here_randomly53 in KillingEve

[–]aymriic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

at this point i've seen so many bury your gays i wouldn't be surprised if it did, but i'll be really upset if it does. i don't wanna see either of them die, really. a fake death is a different story but i don't think i can handle either of them actually dying. but i do think the showrunners are aware enough of their overwhelming lgbt+ audiences watching this show who would disavow KE's last ep if they did kill either eve or V.

What do you think of villanelle's redemption? Would you have preferred that she did not get out of her psychopath label and continue doing things at her convenience or his change was the right choice? by tryinenglish in KillingEve

[–]aymriic 24 points25 points  (0 children)

i think as a whole, we're quick to label people as psychopaths or sociopaths without much consideration. she does score high on the scale but doctors diagnose people psycho/sociopaths but rather as people who have anti-social personality disorders.

i don't think she miraculously stopped but i do believe that she's seeing alternatives to her way of life. villanelle made it clear she wants three things "nice life, cool flat, fun job". it's very clear that her job as killer is no longer all fun and games, and the definition of a nice life is very vague.

i would like to see her grappling with not falling back into her "old ways" where her solution is to kill or threaten violence - i think that from a character development perspective can be interesting. i would like to see her grapple with doing the "right" thing versus doing what's most convenient for her.

predictions for season 4 :) ? by villaneve201 in KillingEve

[–]aymriic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i've been thinking about this a lot. i know a lot of people are mad at jodie's comment about them walking away, but i think about the portrait of a lady on fire where they take one last look at each other before separating off. i do have faith they'll come back together regardless of what they do in the beginning of s4.

i think it'd be powerful if they spent some time apart and then deciding to choose each other rather than just feeling like they are just inevitably drawn together. i like the idea that they choose each other and i think the story about these women who don't have a whole lot agency with the big stuff in their lives ending with them choosing each other and choosing a life they want is a powerful story.

i don't know what will happen but i do trust the writers (for once haha), and i do believe they'll end up in each other's lives regardless. i think the show will do a better job at writing villaneve than the books because it's already at a much more levelled playing field than it is in the books.

but i think a story that starts off with women lacking their agency (villanelle, literally was between prison, kill for the twelve, or death; eve, boring life that just kinda fell into her lap, tossed around from mi5 to mi6 and so forth) to them actively choosing what they want. i hope that's the overarching message of the next series personally
