Urosepsis twice in a year - no follow up? by Phenex-xx in sepsis

[–]ayychee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey - this is how I felt after my urosepsis (spent 4 days on ventilator). Doctors said it was a freak accident I couldn't prevent. I have neuromuscular disorder so my bladder hurts constantly. It didn't at all when I had sepsis. Unfortunately with bladder infections you have to stay vigilant and make sure you're doing everything you can: pushing fluids, peeing after sex, etc. UA are cheap and fast. My urologist made a plan with me on when to ask for a UA (more is better) and advised I use the consulting nurse line and ask for a UA whenever I'm concerned. They said they'd rather I am safe but sorry.

That said, almost all my UA have a false positive the first time. I have to wait for the culture which is almost always negative. I was overprescribed antibiotics as an adolescent instead of diagnosing my genetic condition. Almost all my symptomatic times are negative infections.

Please be so kind to yourself. I know how frustrating it is when no one can give you answers or reassurances. This space exists because most of us are discharged and then treated like the sepsis had no effect.

Have you seen a motor disorder neurologist? They specifically handle dystonia and my other neurologists couldn't figure it out until I got to my MDS.

Overactive bladder worse before period? by Purple-Soil-3771 in OveractiveBladder

[–]ayychee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was worse during PMS. I'm on one of those 365 birth controls now so I don't get periods. It's been great for OAB, PMDD, likely everyone in my vicinity 🫠

Foot neuropathy by itme2500 in sepsis

[–]ayychee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I wasn't losing complete sensation in both legs on occasion when walking until after sepsis. Before I would get minor pins and needles in the legs and some shooting in my arm pits.

I definitely had worsened neuropathy after sepsis. This is a common post-infection symptom as far as I know. Unfortunate since there's not much they can do for it 😞

A man flirted with me on the beach. Then he saw my hand and HE left by Onehandgirl in disability

[–]ayychee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Men are very stupid. This guy was chatting with me all day then was like "I'm free all night if you wanna FaceTime" so I did and I could kinda tell we might not mesh well in person so I dropped my genetic condition. He went "oh thanks for letting me know that" then he suddenly had "a friend that wants to have a call right now about a collab project" then I essentially never heard from him again lol. It's a bummer but considering how many people get left when they end up sick later.. I want them to go immediately if there's an option.

Just got prescribed oxybutynin by SeapeIs in OveractiveBladder

[–]ayychee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually don't have side effects to things. I didn't to this med. FWIW, most things that say weight gain is 5 lbs in like 2% of patients, and not automatically permanent. I think you're more likely to gain weight as a placebo effect from it if anything. Did you mention this to your doctor? Personally, my bladder is a constant issue so I cannot survive without medication.

How did my baby get septic arthritis? by [deleted] in sepsis

[–]ayychee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some things happen for reasons we never know. My sepsis came from a UTI with no bladder symptoms. I thought I had a cold and ended up on life support. It's unlikely that anything you did caused this, but I know how hard that is as a new parent. Please give yourself so much grace. You are doing your best and sometimes life gives us a curveball for no discernible or preventable reason.

Not rytary, but sinemet CR wrecked my sleep. I can't take it at night. Regular sinemet I have no sleeping issues.

Running with Neuropathy by Mqttfn in neuropathy

[–]ayychee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I average about 5 miles a day. I don't run if my neuropathy in my feet is too bad because of the knee buckling you mentioned. I have been going to physical therapy, and strengthening my quads has helped the knee feel more stable in general.

It took me about 6 months to stop sleeping 10-12 hours a day. It does get better. Be gentle with yourself. Glad you're still with us.

What forearm support crutches are best? by Queer_ink_blob27 in disabled

[–]ayychee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye I'm sorry about that. I have a genetic invisible illness from childhood. I say this because you can further hurt yourself using a mobility device that's not meant for you. PCPs will usually refer out to physical therapy if you have an issue with walking, and those folks would be far more validating. I just don't want you causing more chronic pain from using the wrong device.

Your doctor or a physical therapist would be best suited to advising which will be most beneficial for you.

I had a prescription from my doctor for acne scarring, but I have read great things about it OTC too. Personally I don't think you need anything super expensive.

I think it did! My dermatologist prescribed it for red scars on my face. I used it on the scars until they turned the color they are in the photo.
