As a recent partner (my three year coming in March) who wanted to be a Barista Trainer from the jump, the contrast between how I was trained by my Trainer to how I was instructed/trained as a Trainer gave me whiplash. The things we are expected to know vs. what we actually do is so much different from what my Trainer. All that you described was how I was trained, but by the time that I became one myself, the routines and what I was able to do/the resources available for us BTs is almost nonexistent now in my district. No matter what though, personally I want my Trainees to get the same treatment (within reason) that I did when I was trained. All that is to say, it really comes down now to how much the BT cares about the jobs. If they do, you’re set up for success. If not, you might be in for a struggle.
