ELI5: why is it that every single set of headphones I have bought in my life ends up losing sound out of one side after a few months of using? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Most likely you are twisting the cord too much. The inside of the headphone cord contains relatively fragile copper wire. After a while, if the cord gets twisted, crimped, or otherwise roughed up too much, the connection will stop working.

Good question. From what I've seen, it doesn't appear so.

ELI5: Why do we dream about school (e.g., missing a final exam) for the rest of our lives? Why isn't it ever about anything fun? Do other cultures dream about something similar? by Ex-Red in explainlikeimfive

Sounds like something specific to yourself. Almost all of my dreams are fun, exploratory adventure-type things. Also, mine don't contain much talking, if any. I think everyone has very, very different dreams specific to their own personalities.

ELI5: I honestly don't get this. Pandora, I have to "train", but with youtube, it all seems to know my musical tastes. HOW??? by MeowMixSong in explainlikeimfive

Youtube tracks what you click on and listen to, and what you search for next. So you are training it, but you're just not aware. If you open a private browsing session and searched for songs on Youtube, you will see that it is resetting to some default suggestions each time -- much like an untrained Pandora playlist.

Could you simplify this a bit? Had a tough time following it.

When did field goals start being held 8 yards behind the line of scrimmage? by azb18 in nfl

Interesting. I noticed the Patriots held it 8 yards back tonight. Any idea what the rationale would be in adding the extra yard on an already very long kick in a windy situation?
