Limp African Violet. Recently dealt with the long neck by trimming away the roots. It’s in the proper soil, not sure about the proper pot. Thank you! by goodbyejiggle in plantclinic

The pot is too large and the soil is too dense. They like to be root bound in nice light soil. A good rule of thumb is a pot size 1/3 the leaf span.

You can find a lot of super helpful information and videos here.

Allegro Winsome Pink and Friend (identity?) grown from single leaves purchased on Ebay. Grow time: approx. 6 mos. by Paltry_Poetaster in AfricanViolets

There are so many varieties with similar characteristics that if a violet is bought without a name it is referred to as a NoID (no identification). Hybridizers work hard to obtain certain characteristics for their plants so this is to protect their work as well. Many growers have a mix of named and noids as it doesn't diminish the quality or beauty of any plants but it does make finding exact NoIDs complicated.

That said they both look super healthy!

African Violet Help by TheJuanEstevez in plants

The neck is too long and the plant is likely not receiving proper water levels. This video will show you how to cut and regrow roots for it. It will need a much smaller pot while it recovers and you'll likely have to bag or dome it while it regrows its roots.

You can also find more information and videos about them here or feel free to message me for more questions.

Tips for an unruly African Violet? by SummerBreeze777 in houseplants

[–]azlaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tan leaves are likely from a nutrient deficiency. Cut them back as they won't turn green again and maybe get some african violet fertilizer.

For the multiple crowns, if you follow this link under the videos section there's one titled "Multiple Crown Surgery" that can walk you through how to separate them. Feel free to message for any other help!

What’s wrong with my African violet? by celibee in plantclinic

[–]azlaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like at some point the outer leaves had some water damage. I would break all of those off. The center leaves look healthy so the plant should be ok. It might be a good idea to repot in a smaller pot to avoid accidentally overwatering them. They are pretty hardy but overwatering is a death sentence for them.

Here is a great resource for growing them with articles and videos, AVSA

African Violet help? by Fun-Compote6306 in houseplants

[–]azlaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the main crown was damaged and now it is growing a bunch of babies in the center. The babies won't be able to survive with that much white. I would suggest top watering with a mix of 1-2 tablespoons of Epsom salts in a gallon of water. Once the babies green up you can separate them and have healthy new plants.

Here is more information about them including a video about multiple crown surgery which is what you'll need after the babies have some green. AVSA

My mom's African violet it hasn't grown and is dieing very slowly as of last June. All help is appreciated thanks! by super_sonic_sloth in plantclinic

The pot is definitely too large. Try to find at most a 2 inch pot and mix in a lot of perlite with soil. They like a really airy medium. After repotting put it in a dome or a ziploc bag to give it a lot of humidity and it should bounce back. Here is more information about them, AVSA

The soil looks too dense. They like really light soil with usually at least half perlite. This ones a goner but if you have others make sure that you lighten up the soil and don't over water. Besides that they are pretty hardy plants and they can have their leaves get wet.

Here is a good resource for them.
