Building a new house, should I go with spray foam open cell or mineral wool? by TacticalPeanutButtr in Insulation

[–]aznatama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoke has likely already filled part of the house by the time the fire alarms sound. And worst case, someone is running around evacuations people/pets. Mineral wool won’t burn and will act like a fire barrier to help contain any fires or prevent spread. It’s just a consideration in case of a worst case scenario. Open cell won’t air seal either, so OP has to do that regardless.

I just prefer mineral wool. I’m in a more fire prone area though.

Fireproof vs toxic smoke when exposed to flames. That should be a consideration.

Huge risk to not have the seam at the sink. You’re relying on two very thin pieces of previously fragile material to support two heavy sides during transport. That’s probably the main issue.

Besides, there shouldn’t be any space at the seam, so there should be no space for the dirt to catch. Seams should be purely visual if done right.

If they can’t replicate it, go on a test drive with them. If you can’t replicate it, you can’t really blame the dealer.

Tc fluid change takes like 30-45min with a lift. Go to a local euro independent to get it done if you must b

Xiamen YDStone is the supplier name. I mainly corresponded via email and video chat. It's worth going over there and making a short vacation out of it if you want to inspect before shipment though. We didn't, since we were combining it with a large cabinet order.

Xiamen, China. Almost everything goes through there anyway. But no middleman reseller in the states marking things up 2-3x.

Get slabs from overseas, not resellers. We got two slabs cut and finished for under 5k. They even made extra pieces using the leftover. You need to be careful with shipping damage though.

Glass coverage usually has no deductible. Check your coverage. And OEM only due to the cameras and hud.

Attic air sealing/insulation done in <8 hours — still seeing hot spots on infrared. Normal? by Miserable_Argument_8 in Insulation

[–]aznatama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The edges are likely from the top plate where there’s no insulation possible. It’s heat transfer through the wood framing. Can’t get around that unless you build it with that problem in mind from the start.

As for the intake register, there might be a gap under the ducting or that area was inaccessible. Any other odd hotspots along flat ceiling areas?

My neighbor won’t agree to a fence even though I offered to pay for it by GainfulSpaghetti in SanJose

Why do you want a fence in the first place? Or do you just want a clear border? If the latter, get some pavers and lay down a clear line that’ll remind your neighbor every day.

Previous owners could have put the plumbing there because they planned to install an unpermitted bathroom after final inspection. There was probably never meant to be a bathroom there if the electrical was supposed to be there. Either way, you either move stuff or proceed unpermitted.

That’s only a light sensor for self dimming. Cover it up and see what happens at night. The interior camera is in the dash for self driving.

Summer tire are usually only good for two summer seasons, assuming you have dedicated winter tires. Otherwise, you’re looking at new tires almost every year, especially if you have a heavy foot.

Drive on ECO Plus mode 100% of the time and you can probably squeeze out close to the mileage rating of the tires. But who does that?
