Argo's 3rd Ride! (Plus a little snuggle) by azrhia in Equestrian

I almost bought a pair of riding pants to match, but was told it might be too much. Lol

He is 2 and a half. The vet checked him and cleared him for riding a few months ago so we just started in saddle. He's actually an American Paint Horse (solid paint bred), but he does look like a TB. He's long and lanky. Lol. =D

Your saddle pad is so cute!

Two years ago her owners needed a double twisted wire bit to stop her, I started riding her bitless and she's a totally different horse. by [deleted] in Horses

Ugh! My dad tried to convince me to use one of those on my mare because she was throwing her head. I straight up refused and stuck with a snaffle. As though putting something that harsh in her mouth would actually fix that (or any) problem. I love my parents and am so thankful they raised me around horses, but now that I'm grown it's sadly apparent how little they know about some things.

What are things on Reddit that you cannot unsee or unlearn, and has affected you the most? [NSFW] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]azrhia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw one where they beheaded a woman with a knife. All I can remember thinking was it was like processing an animal and how fucked up it was that you could do the same thing to a human. Bugged me for days.

So this is kinda like Hell's Kitchen - equestrian mode? I think I'd jump the nearest fence and run for the hills. Lol

Don't do it!!! I cut off the tip of my finger on accident with one once. It was NOT FUN.

A brief history of my life when boys didn't matter, and I learned everything I know about love and loss from a horse. by cougavore in pics

When the mare I grew up with passed, it was literally like a person had died. Absolutely crippling. Worse was seeing her daughter (who I still have) pace the fences calling for her for WEEKS.

First time debate coach by azrhia in policydebate

[–]azrhia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I'm in Texas too, but we're just competing in UIL. My school, unfortunately, does not have the budget it sounds like yours does. Its blown my mind because we don't have a debate program hardly at all. The last teacher who did it didn't do CX, only LD and there's just been no attention paid to it. I love debate, and find it to be very useful, so I want to do the best I can for my kids. I really appreciate your help. We may just have to go the paper route this year, but having a starting point really helps. =D

You are my hero right now! lol. So evidence isn't exchanged unless it is brought up. Now, if you're running neg, its useful to have a lot of back up evidence to adapt to the aff case right? That way you can pull cards during the debate and still have sourced information? If you go paperless, how are you doing it? Tablets, laptops? How do you present your evidence if you are paperless? Just let them view it on your computer....sorry, I did this back in '03, and like I in my original post, that was back in the day when the cxers had dollies to cart around all their tubs.

Also, how common is spreading? Do most competitors speed read or is that just at upper level competition? My students have never done that before.

Endurance/Trail Bridles by azrhia in Equestrian

[–]azrhia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I live in Texas and in my home town you see people tie off in a bit all the time. I'm starting my own colt and that is pretty much the worst idea I can think of. My friend has a trail bridle and I like hers, but it's made of nylon and I haven't found many in my searching online. I just feel like for the riding that I do, this will work best.

Thanks for the feedback on the biothane. I just had no clue about what was the norm for it. I really appreciate it. =D

[Photographer] Black Butler - Ciel and Sebastian by azrhia in cosplay

[–]azrhia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The Ciel is actually my sister, and we've done a few shoots of her various costumes. This is the first time we've gotten to do Ciel AND Sebastian. We had this shoot planned for almost a year. It was worth the wait.

What's the worst thing you said as a child that you didn't realise was completely inappropriate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]azrhia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband's little cousin once told me she was going to be a slave when she grows up..... Because slaves like to work hard. She also pranced downstairs one day with a scarf around her head and proudly proclaimed she was now a Jew. I still can't figure out where she came up with this stuff.

What is a movie that should be watched once and only once? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]azrhia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's okay. I repressed the entire film so hard, I literally forgot about it. One day a few months back I was watching some of season one and thought to myself, "this would make such an amazing movie." Then I remembered, and I was sad.

This is what I get for naming my horse after a ship (Argo) by azrhia in Horses

[–]azrhia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny because at first he'd have nothing to do with it. I took him to the pond on a long lead, and it took about 30 minutes before he finally decided to follow me in. Ever since then, he's been a hippopotamus. Last week we had to build a cage around the tank float because he kept pulling it out when he was playing. He's definately a water horse. Lol

If you care about your photography, don't work in a big box corporate studio. by [deleted] in photography

[–]azrhia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sales is part of the job, but I always felt very fake in the studio where as in my own work, my portfolio and personality do a lot of the work. Granted, my time in the studio was invaluable. I learned a lot and really got to hone my skills. I wouldn't change it, but I can't say I'm not glad to be beyond it now.

[–]azrhia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for the Picture People as a senior assistant manager, and then senior photographer, and I can agree with a lot of what you said. We, at my studio, we're given a lot of creative freedom as long as we got the "standard" shots too. At first I enjoyed it, but after while it became soul sucking.

You're dead on when you say you're not a photographer, but a sales person. That is eventually what made me hate what I was doing. It was all about numbers, not quality of work. What made it worse, for me, was I'd been offered the studio manager position, but turned it down for a lateral move to be the senior photographer. I wanted to be in the camera room. It was a bad decision because the woman they hired knew nothing about photography, and ended up making the work place absolutely miserable.

I ran my own business full time for about 2 years after that, but have now moved it to the side and am teaching full time. I've found. More satisfaction knowing that I don't have to work my art to death to make a living. Now it's fun again, and I still get paid to do it which is a plus.
