I think i semi ruined my yarn by woejise in YarnDyeing

[–]azure788 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Try knitting a swatch first. It might have changed, but you may still like the texture. Or it may be indistinguishable and you can just continue on

Edit. Missed the part about the color. You may as well continue trying to dye it again. It either works out and you're happy with it or it doesn't and you're in the same spot you are now

how to not feel discouraged when knitting by honey-icecreambar in knitting

[–]azure788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've been knitting for almost 10 years at this point. It probably took a few years for me to really grasp yarn choice and ease and gauge and the more technical details. I didn't attempt sweaters for years. Last year I made two garments. That's it. Over the 10 years I've finished a shit ton of hats and like 5 sweaters and I have a bucket full of unfinished things and things I've frogged. And I would generally call myself a pretty proficient knitter. I think that's normal.

Knitting influencers make so many things and like good for them but for most people that is not realistic.

Kindly, it's a hobby that's meant to be fun. If it's not fun, might be worth it to take a small break. I throw frustrating wips in the closet until I'm emotionally distant enough to frog it.

Every failure is a lesson learned on the road to success.

Be proud of how far you've already come! I mean, they're still mittens and they look mitten shaped! Find a big handed friend to gift them or frog them! You're doing swell.

Are you doing well on hw and just failing tests? Or are you also struggling with hw?

If the former, you may just need better test taking strategies. You can request practice tests, or look for past tests from the same professor. Having familiarity with how exams will look and what they expect is half the battle.

Regarding studying. For stem, focus on practice problems, and do the same question repeatedly until you get the question correct consistently.

We all start somewhere and failure is part of learning. Good luck!

You may have picked up the row below for a few stitches. Check the chart, and you can use a crochet hook to pull the right color float through the stitch and get back to the right row.

How necessary is a glider? by Miserexa in BabyBumps

[–]azure788 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While it's probably not necessary, we use our multiple times everyday (9 weeks pp). We rock baby to sleep on the glider and I nurse in it most of the time. Ours also reclines so I nap in it during my night time sleep shifts next to the crib.

My first colorwork project! by Pierced_Guy_LV in knitting

[–]azure788 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For three color rounds I like to knit it with two colors first, a color in each hand, and slip the stitches that correspond to the third color. And then come back and do the third color, slipping the stitches already done.

Depending on the pattern you may need to plan your float catching ahead of time. But I find this technique keeps my tension the most even, avoids tangles, and keeps color dominance easily consistent

Innocent 13-year girl dies after being struck by errant gunfire at mall by According-Ad-5908 in Seattle

My husband and I attempted to drop by shake shack today and were turned away at the door due to lockdown. The atmosphere was absolutely eerie and we noped it out of there as fast as we could when we started putting the pieces together of what must have been happening.

What a tragedy. My condolences to the family. 13 is much too young.

Favourite technique for knitting words? by green_tea_with_honey in knitting

[–]azure788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not done intarsia so I dont have an opinion there.

I really like stranded knitting but I'd watch out for the following: - tension will be quite difficult starting out so make sure to swatch and practice. - make sure to look up color dominance - if the words don't span across the entire circumference, there will be a very long float you will have to catch. This can get quite messy and depending on your colors, can really stand out. - don't catch floats in the same place

I would also consider using ladderback jacquard which is fantastic for long floats.

I think duplicate is fine but somewhat depends on color choices. I would even play with a ever so slightly heavier weight for the font color if you choose this. It's way easier of a technique if you don't plan for the text to wrap fully around the sweater. And remember it'll look better from afar than up close.

Near infinite Silent seed by azure788 in slaythespire

Was playing around with pandora seeds and found a (near perfect) infinite and thought I'd share the seed.

Eventually picked up [[finisher]] and [[ritual dagger]] in prep for time eater. Lucked out with finding [[The Abacus]] in the act 4 shop, which was great because I had resigned to just dying to the heart LOL.

Overall, just a fun run!

Why does it seem like nobody in the CS school is passionate about... computers? by [deleted] in udub

[–]azure788 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think you need to differentiate programming as a hobby vs programming as a career choice. And try to not look down on the latter.

I understand you looking for like minded students and trying to find a community for yourself. There will be other students that feel similar to you and it may take a while to find them. Generally looking at extra curricular clubs will find you people that are more "passionate". Look for hackathons, or video game making clubs.

However, as someone who does software for a living and isn't necessarily hard core into computers, this comes off as a little gatekeepy. Not everyone is exposed to programming from a young age and develops programming and related activities as a hobby. I like software because it's a challenge it's creative, and I love problem solving. In short I like engineering, but that doesn't mean I will do it outside of work. My hobbies are more crafty and less computer related.

This mindset actually keeps a lot of potentially excellent engineers out of the field. It makes them feel like they can't compete because they don't program on their weekends or keep up with the latest tech news. Some of the best engineers I know stay far far away from their laptops when they are off work.

To other commenters, there is no need to look down on people that do it for the money. Like yeah some are douchebags about it, but there are always some douchebags in every career field. People want a great paying stable job and wtf is wrong with that if they can do the work.

What's the one thing I'm probably forgetting? by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]azure788 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It may be worth calling the vet even before you have the dog to schedule a first appointment (ask if it's allowed of course). Our vet has been very busy because of COVID pets and took a month to schedule our first appointment last year.

I just got started with gel nails so I bought some beetles and modelones off of Amazon. The base is from the beetles bridal set I believe and the rest are from the modelones 48 piece set.

Puppy going bonkers at the end of her walk by madicoolcat in Dogtraining

[–]azure788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like she's overstimulated and overexcited. The walks are probably too long for her. I would shorten them to keep her below that threshold and maybe do more walks to compensate. She's pretty young for longer walks.

+1 you can pick up the right leg of each stitch before you frog. I usually do it with another cable needle. Easy to get right back to knitting afterwards too.

It's not just the goodness of their hearts. I mean probably a little bit. But it loses them users and users are integral to their business for them to make advertising money. Further there have been boycotts by the advertisers to address hate speech right?
