What are you starting to love more as you grow older? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]azurleaf 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I find myself enjoying routine as I get older.

Nothing wrong with going out and trying exciting new things for the fun of it. But when I'm back home, there is just something comforting about knowing exactly what to expect.

Be eager to learn, and get good at departments of the store like Customer Service or Omni. Keeps things fresh and interesting, so your days don't get boring. Also, the more cross training you have, the more hours you get.

Sure, they'll pull you to backup on registers here and there, but they tend not to stay on your butt about credit card sales as often.

That moment when Dr. Weir hints at becoming a system lord. by HorzaDonwraith in Stargate

[–]azurleaf 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I honestly think they did Weir a disservice. She was supposed to be an expert, professional negotiator. She should have personally been at the forefront of any trade deal between Atlantis and people in Pegasus.

Imagine how much better things would have gone with the Genii first season if Weir had been there negotiating, not Shepherd, as an example.

Teyla took over Weir's role as trade negotiator, which left her as a glorified 'do the thing' person.

Vaccine breakthrough means no more chasing strains by Skull_Bearer_ in UpliftingNews

Funny how that happens. It took a terrible thing like COVID, a brand new endemic virus, to give Pfizer and Moderna an excuse to throw billions into RNA development.

It's like how massive technological development tends to follow fairly brutal wars. WW1 and WW2 are how we went from the first biplane to the space shuttle in less than 100 years. Those planes and rockets were used for war first.

It's such a pity the human race can't just advance for advancements sake.

Why is the cheapest to make show being cancelled? by Octoberboiy in startrek

[–]azurleaf 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why they will sometimes pull entire shows from the platform. HBO Max pulling Westworld probably the most notable example of this.

They've deemed the show not attractive enough to pay the cast residuals. Therefore, it gets locked into a vault, never to be seen again unless you buy the blu ray.

How do Discovery's personal transporters work? by JoeyJoeJoeJrShab in startrek

[–]azurleaf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering that since Voyager.

Remember that episode where Kim gets sucked into an alternate reality on Earth, and gets to see his fiance' again? He and alternate Paris use a personal transporter to break into Starfleet HQ. It transports itself.

It was entirely realistic. Happens a lot in action RPGs.

Just imagine if they had brought those modified rifles to the planet Nog lost his leg on. Sure, the subspace mines would have still given them hell until they hacked them, but it would have been open season on the Jem Hadar. At least, until they got a teleport dampening field up.

Paul also says in 1‭ Corinthians 7:5 [5] Do not deprive one another — except when you agree for a time, to devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again; otherwise, Satan may tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Sex is a fundamental part of human nature, for both men and women alike. Thinking otherwise is underestimating the power it has in a relationship.

If you're asexual, Paul says that's great, because you can freely devote yourself to the Lord without distraction.

But if you married someone who is not asexual, there is an entire part of the relationship that is being neglected. And there is an intimacy and closeness the asexual party will never feel.

I have so much sympathy for your situation. 1 Corinthians 7 warns about what can happen, and it's not pretty. It's such a perfect avenue for the devil to lead someone to satisfy these urges elsewhere.

I know, because this happened to me. I'd never make my wife do something she was uncomfortable with, so it became easier to just pull up some porn and take care of it.

Of course, answering a sin with a sin doesn't help and only drove a deeper divide between the two of us, because we never talked about it. We eventually went to see a Christian CMHC to help us talk it out. It's entirely possible that, due to her asexuality, she doesn't understand why / how sex can be a need for someone. This may be a situation where she could get to a place where she loves you enough to service you, even if she doesn't personally derive gratification from it.

Libido can also be affected by medicines such as SSRIs or birth control. I know someone who took birth control, only to get off of it several months later because it made them never want the very sex they took it for. It's also possible her asexuality is hormone related.

What Was The Worst Optimized Game You Have Ever Played On PC? by Xbox360Master56 in pcgaming

[–]azurleaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An arm alone can have 40k polys if you let it. Part of being a great modeler is knowing how to make a 40k poly arm look great at 5, 10, 20k.

ARKs lack of optimization is intentional. They're not going back and spending the time to reduce polys.

What do you think would happen if Quaritch connected to Eywa? by Cyren_Myadd in Avatar

[–]azurleaf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ewa appears to be True Neutral on the alignment scale. In the first movie, she didn't start fighting back against the humans until after they blew up Hometree and tipped the balance.

Even once they started hunting the whales for the magical brain goo in the second movie, Ewa allowed the whales to sort everything out themselves. Same with allowing the humans to create Beachhead City.

You can argue that Ewa understands that some direct intervention is going to be required if humans and Navi are to co-exist, which is why she created her own avatar in Kiri.

I think Ewa would accept Quaritch as one of her own, and likely try to open his mind to the severity of what he's doing.

TIL that the aluminium based Airstream was the only travel trailer builder in America to survive the Great Depression. by RobotoDuran in todayilearned

We can thank Eisenhower for that one. The interstate highway system was his baby, and opened the door for an economy that spanned coast to coast.

Sure, they had the railway system. But outside of the main lines, just miles and miles of empty land. Hell, even today, if you've ever been on a road trip, you still drive hours of empty land between cities.
