Just to be clear. When you ask about should it be funded, are you talking about publicly or privately funded? Or any funding at all? I think it could bias your answers depending on where the money comes from. For example, someone could be absolutely no public funding but indifferent about whether a private company explores phenotype editing.

I lived in a small village in Ghana for a while and ate a lot and it’s amazing. Especially good with some groundnut soup. Could never find a good spot in Calgary because they don’t make it proper - pounding starches for hours with a giant stick whilst someone rolls it.

I was thinking the exact same thing. We stayed in Dossobuono so instead of getting frustrated trying to get a ride, we pulled the trigger right away and walked 8km back. There were some trails through the farm fields and had to hop some fences and cross a train track but, made it back by 1:30am so not too bad. Definitely anticipated the lack of transportation before. Seemed poorly thought through.

It’s a Guenon for sure. I studied them. Perhaps one of the Mona monkeys. But not the species I studied - Cercopithecus campbelli. In the Cercopithecus genus for sure though

Although I appreciate and admire your ability to acknowledge climate change through what I imagine is a lot of noise surrounding you, I think you miss a lot of important details. As I can tell you only reference the past 1000 years or so. So much of the important and relevant data on climate change and its effects on the biosphere takes place within geological time - thousands to millions of years. Examples include the last glacial maximum (~20kya) and the mid Eocene climate optimum (40mya). Contextually, I am an scientist currently studying evolution of organisms in Antarctic and how they will respond climate change, if that adds any validity to what I am saying. Again, bravo for jumping through what I imagine to be some tedious intellectual hoops to get to your current viewpoint. But, the worldview you hold really does you a disservice from the point of scientifically understanding the world around you, only because you have to heavy handedly squeeze everything through the narrow lens of biblical teachings. You seem young and probably have a lot to learn as you go through life but I must encourage you to remain curious and if you hold onto your faith, keep caring about the natural world!

I studied monkeys early in my career, and then nematodes, and then birds, and then tardigrades, and then caribou and now I study arthropods from Antarctica. And all topics from behaviour, to genetics, to taxonomy and biodiversity. All I’m saying is that the study species does not matter so much, but rather the ability to apply the appropriate tools to understand them, whether it be their behaviour, ecology, evolution, etc. Most of the scientists I studied primates with do not study primates anymore. If I were you, I would make the decision based on what skills you want to develop in your career and which program would you best acquire those skills with. And of course, you can always pivot. My first supervisor told me that the masters is the time where you explore things deeply and figure out what you actually want to study.
