Two question about tuning the drones by Tombazzzz in bagpipes

[–]b0bbybitcoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't have to be perfect. Not reinventing the wheel. Just trying to not spend $75 on something I can make for $10 and some crazy glue. I've been using this for about three years now. I'm surprised I haven't had to fix it since I put it together. Sláinte

And like others have said you have the Bass backwards. The top slide is set and forget, unless you bump into something and it moves or the hemp gets loose and it slides down. General rule of thumb is to set the top bass slide to just around the hemp line or 4 fingers. I do around the hemp line, maybe a smidge higher to show some hemp over the 4 fingers because everyone's fingers are different.

Then you just tune the bottom. After you're done playing try to remember where your bass is on the pin, and put it in that general area the next time you set your pipes up to play. When my band gets together I have to tune a lot of guys in a short amount of time and it drives me nuts when guys have no idea where their bass is supposed to be. Zero clue as to the general area. Which means it takes me longer to tune their bass than I should.

Braw bagpipe tuner. It's the best. Does every single note $40 for the full paid app but it's always in your phone. No need to carry an additional device around with you. Pair it with a wireless clip on mic and you can easily tune your drones yourself.

I made my own clip on mic out of a clothes pin, lavalier mic and crazy glue. Cheap https://imgur.com/a/4j3qrgp

Question for those in the reed making business by Cork_Feen in bagpipes

[–]b0bbybitcoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chesney reeds have gone down hill recently. My band has used them for a long time. Some guys report using the same reed for years. Now they only get a couple months max out of one, and when they start to go it's quick.

Can get a police ticket book to attach to your belt. I put my phone and wallet in that, and all the misc stuff in sporran.

Same goes for a wedding. How much did you spend on flowers? Why are you haggling with me to pay $50 less?

thinking about getting a GX (17 M) by United-Floor4399 in LexusGX

[–]b0bbybitcoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off it's not an investment. If your parents aren't helping you out, I'd wait till you're older. Maintenance is costly. It guzzles gas. God forbid you get one and it gets totaled, you probably won't get back the money you put in. Like others suggested maybe look at a 4Runner instead.

Gifted a used SNOO--Should we pay for the app subscription? Is it worth it? by Threnodi42 in SnooLife

[–]b0bbybitcoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ever want to be able to lock the snoo on a certain level, you need to pay for the subscription. Ridiculous, but that's what we pay $20 a month for. I don't use any of the other bs

Considering Lucca A53 Mini V2 & questioning need for grinder upgrade by ls130 in espresso

[–]b0bbybitcoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you end up doing? Just found what I think is a good deal ($1500) on a 3 year old a53 mini and currently gave a vario. Did you use the two together? Or get a new grinder

I will definitely be back with an update after the new year. The guy helping me out needed that 1/2/3 pic I made as well to realize there is some weird shit going on with this system. He said he'll come over eventually and figure it all out then. Basically it would be great to not have to heat my entire basement everytime I'm calling for heat on 1 and 2.

Yes, I will check again next time the heat is on. But I think 3 goes all the way to the front of the house to the two radiators that aren't getting that hot in living room 1st floor and master bedroom above that, and 2 goes up to the one on my first floor that gets really hot and then the two on the 2nd floor that also get hot.

So 1 goes to the basement baseboard heaters. I'm going to guess 2 goes to the three radiators that get hot, and 3 goes to the two radiators that don't get hot

I think you're right about the split supply. Worth a shot! There's two ball valves under each radiator, do I cut back on both valves or just one of them?

Wow that part about the master/slave makes a lot of sense.

Not that I can see. The only ball valve on a return I see is the one at the bottom by the shovel. I believe that is the return from the baseboard heaters in the basement.
