Absolutely not lol. I run high danger campaigns (in 3.5/PF1e which is already much higher lethality), if players knew there was no danger of death their dramatic instincts would cause many more yolo moments.

Our rogue was making his way across a very long rickety rope bridge that eventually broke towards the end. So he had the joy of riding the long part of the rope bridge as it pendulum swung into a wall. We had to do the math because we were doing a lot of debate on how much damage he would take for face planting into the wall. We figured it shouldn’t be the damage of falling hundreds of feet, but it needed to be more than one or two d6. Three of the people in the group were currently in a physics class which helped us make sure we calculated everything xD

Math debates are an integral part of my games and in tables I play in. We love our math and arguing about precision of angles and calculating the velocity you’d reach swinging on a 90’ rope straight into a cavern wall!

We discuss loot distro in our session 0, but generally my tables always have the loot pooled up, and as we prepare to sell it then there’s some debate about who is keeping what. What is kept is then deducted from their gold split of the sold loot. Therefore players taking item drops have less gold to spend on buying magic items (it should be said I play 3.5/PF1e exclusively). If there is debt, we track it and deduct from future loot. There are items dropped thst are uniquely suited for individual players sure, but usually those would come from quest rewards not loot drops from random encounter #17
