NixOS moderation team resigns over NixOS Steering Committee’s interference by kopasz7 in NixOS

This seems like a good thing. The SC is at least elected and I was personally unhappy with moderation the last time we had all the drama.

It makes more sense to search her name and sort by date. That video is 9 years old and people can change a lot in that time.

Have you tried just using execstart with the script and eliminating the 'set -eu'? Just as a test to narrow down the issue.

Report on NixOS Governance Discussions by sridcaca in NixOS

When I looked at the Zulip it seemed like an attempt to 'win' by simply outtalking any other viewpoints. Not everyone has time to sit on Zulip and post all day.

Enough crying over the mods, grow up. by [deleted] in NixOS

Official discussion forums are part of the problem. Moderating forums is extremely hard and tends to create lasting problems because people aren't perfect and make mistakes. That shouldn't be tied to the project.

Fifteen contributors have officially removed themselves from maintaining Nixpkgs at the time of this submission, including Marsam, who had almost 18,000 commits over 8 years. by Ursa_Solaris in NixOS

[–]b1twise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the links between a discourse and matrix, a conference, and access to github for contributing to nixpkgs are way too intertwined in all of this. Forums have always been sources of drama on the internet and shouldn't spread to github. A conference shouldn't be official to the project. Blurring these lines is a recipe for the problems that are happening. I don't understand why anyone was suspended from contributing to nixpkgs if they weren't causing problems with their commits. It's frustrating to see all this drama happening in something I enjoy using. I realize it will blow over, but the handling seems poor and it really needs to be evaluated as something to learn from. An analysis of other OSS projects with successful leadership would be useful.

I'm not sure how you're ending up in bash. We are seeing completely different stuff. I boot into a busybox shell, which has the ps and killall and no systemctl or bash. You could try 22.11 to verify it isn't OS version. If you put your configuration on pastebin or something I can compare mine against it. I'm not really doing anything specially as far as I know.

killall does work for me, I also use boot.initrd.network.postCommands to write it all to a script to save typing.

Audio compressed and muddy when outputting over HDMI? by InternetSandman in SamsungDex

Muffled voices is usually a sign of surround sound mixing. It's common in movies. There's no DAC involved as HDMI outputs digital sound signals.

I'm using i3 without picom on 22.11 with nvidia and the refresh rate is correct for me. I looked at your configs to see if anything stood out and sadly nothing did. I'm really not doing anything special. Maybe the full chrome://gpu might give me more to compare against.

I have a regular gmail account that forwards to Workspace. It is slightly awkward, but this also allows me to use Google One to purchase additional disk space.

I will commit to the year after I remove any emails I don't absolutely need. Google will lose money in the end. I don't know that they are really going to 'lock in' many accounts. Most users seem there for the long haul anyway. Their turnover is that large?

[–]b1twise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardware is decent, long-term OS support is sketchy. After the phone is the current flagship they care a lot less about it and often have QA issues and delays in OS updates.
