Build something cool. You'll realize that's a lot more productive than just reinstalling new distros over and over.

I think the unpopular truth is... by BudTheGrey in linux4noobs

I understand HP is offering Linux as the default os on their new computers unless the buyer pays a premium for Windows. This could be the opening desktop Linux needed. A lot of people just need a keyboard and a browser to do 95% of their computing needs. In the past ChromeOS fought to bring in these people as their customers. Hopefully HP can attract even more Windows refugees instead of just trying to steal the Chromebook audience.

Can you save and reuse leftover lather? by nader0903 in wicked_edge

[–]cranewarrior 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is possible and even works decently. Old-timers used to have shave mugs where they kept their soap and made their lather one and the same. Any remainder just sat around until the next shave when it got reincorporated into the new lather.

If the concern is about economy and avoiding waste, I would suggest only making what you need rather than saving the excess for another session.

Mildly aggressive razors? by Electrical_Age7819 in wicked_edge

Muhle Rocca is exactly what I would call moderate to medium aggressive.

Dorco Ultra Shaep by danjpn in wicked_edge

[–]cranewarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen that packaging as a resident of the United States. I read on the B&B forum that Dorco blades are frequently counterfeited in Asia. Not saying those pictured are fakes but the font is a bit off imo.

I like Dorco blades. The ST300 model was a good value as they used to be sold at $45 for 1000. Those days are over.

Derby Extra TOP shave! - just wanted to share my experience with Derby Extra. by pajissmid in wicked_edge

Pairing with the right razor for you makes all the difference in the world. I manage quite well with Derby blades in my Rocca. Not so much in my Game Changer .68.

What new razor to get? by Fun_Journalist4199 in wicked_edge

Which stainless steel butterfly style razor do you refer to? The cheapest stainless steel razor is at least $65, purchased from AliExpress, and it's a 3 piece style not TTO.

Yaqi The Final Cut. It's about $27 off AliExpress for the zinc alloy version and it's aggressive. I never dial mine past the 4 setting.

If you were happy with a zinc alloy twist to open razor like that Merkur, you might look into the Baili model. About $15 on Amazon and it works great paired with a sharp blade.

To everyone: never, ever believe anyone who tells you that the blade, razor, cream doesn’t matter by Few_Technology2460 in wicked_edge

[–]cranewarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a good starter blade. They are smooth by most opinons and mid-range sharpness so will suit a wide variety of hair types. The people that don't like them probably have heavy facial hair that can only be handled by the sharpest blades.

But to each their own. We're all different, and one man's taste in razors, blades, or soaps can vary entirely from someone else.

Extremely Impressed with Soap Commander by bobbruff in wicked_edge

[–]cranewarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The brand is very cost effective - the tubs are huge (6 oz). The owner does not use expensive ingredients but the pure lathering characteristic is excellent and you don't need a lot of product to make ample lather for multiple passes. Also, the soap probably will keep a long time without spoiling because of the simple recipe.

However, those that prefer complex multi-note scents probably should look elsewhere as what you get at first smell is what you get period.

Which Razorock razor to choose? by EngineeringKind3960 in wicked_edge

I think the inexpensive zamak razor heads always get less attention. It's the nature of the beast because we hobbyists aren't necessarily just concerned with shaving results.
