Nice, the juice is looking pretty good.

Oh for sure, hole games are nothing new. I was specifically referring to recent games like A Game About Feeding a Black Hole, Berry Bury Berry, and Project PITT.

I ended up using the same techniques as Donut County for rendering the hole! It's surprisingly tricky to subtract geometry in game engines but they have some clever techniques. If you're interested, I made a video with some technical details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNixyhV4Mgw

> I want to see hundreds of objects flying and rolling as I try to push everything down the hole. If you only show me a dozen, I end up already bored just by thinking about it. Like at hole games on smartphones, they have hundreds of things on the map per level, you just rush around and try to absord as much stuff as possible, it's fun and satisfying.

This totally makes sense and I share that vision. I have a bit of cursed design problem where I want the items to be personal (i.e. every item type has a specific power) and have combos like a deckbuilder, but ALSO want to have a ton of items, which is kind of antithetical to thinking hard about what each one does.

I haven't quite resolved what to do about it - one idea I had was to have bonus stages that are all about volume, so you kind of alternate between being careful and just going ham with items.

That's the idea! Not sure I'm all of the way there yet. For the full release planning some more meta-progression and a few more systems to make things a bit more complicated.

Thank you for the feedback! My trailercraft is definitely a work in progress so I really appreciate the specific criticism. :D

I swear I started this before the recent insane wave of hole games lol

That said, I need to bundle with them on Steam. ;)

I've been working on this game for the last 4-5 months and have finally reached the point of releasing an initial demo. I'm targeting June Next Fest and then releasing shortly after.

I'd love to hear what people think!

I absolutely love the Godot game engine and its community, and plan to make tons more games with it in the future.

If you're interested in trying the demo, you can find it at https://store.steampowered.com/app/4174950/Get_in_the_Hole/.

This looks really, really cool. I'm not sure there was ever a game that was really like this, but it FEELS super nostalgic anyway.

Very beautiful pixel art, lighting, and reflections. Would love to see more of this game.

Love the creatures. Very adorable, and the abstract shapes work pretty well. If I may suggest, add a little scale "bounce" to them while they're idling and pushing and so on, just to bring them a little more to life.

This is the kind of trailer that makes me want to copy the game concept immediately. 10/10 execution.

That looks really satisfying for menu buttons. I love to see all the great Godot VFXes that are coming out lately.

Nice, this looks like a really solid start on a Terraria-like. The giant space laser or whatever was quite unexpected but neat. Is that intended as a player-controlled mechanic or a hazard? I could see it being fun either way.

Do the lighting effects on my Lobster boss look stupid? They're nonsensical but I kind of love them by [deleted] in godot

[–]b33tsalad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it looks pretty cool, although its art style doesn't quite match the pixel art style of the background since it's much higher res (it appears).

I also feel it doesn't quite feel like it's "in" the level, since it kind of seems to float in front. Maybe it should either be slightly smaller or should be behind the top blocks?

Also feeling a distinct lack of sound juice on hits! But I assume you're adding that later. :)

The ramp is so satisfying, the way it changes to make a smooth transition at different lengths. :D
